Reducing the FPR (false positive rate)
Hello R-USERS, I think some people didn't understand my question. What I want is to use the training set to minimize the FALSE POSITIVE RATE. I think it is possible. I sacrifice ACCURACY to have less FALSE POSITIVES. I don't want a classifier result with 5% of FPR and, for example, 93% of ACCURACY. I want a 1% FPR sacrificing the 93% ACCURACY. Do you know how can I do this? I really

How to fix false positve rates?
Dear R-users, I have a set of 12000 image samples. I can divide this set into two categories: training and testing. I need to classify the test set into a two qualitative outputs: true or false for some characteristic. To do the classification I'm using the packages SVM in e1071 library and LDA in the MASS library. However, I'm with a great number of FALSE POSITIVE CASES in both

How to increase the for() loop speed?
Dear R users, I would like to know if there is a way to increase the for() loop speed because in my routine the calculations are too slow. Best regards. How to plot multiple variables on the same graph
How to plot multiple variables on the same graph Dear R users, I want to plot the following variables (a, b, c) on the same graph. The x-axis must be the variable mat and the graph must have the type = "l". Inherited node tagging
Dear all, I have observed a behavior that doesn''t seem (to me) to match the documentation. Specially, about tagging, the doc says: " Automatic Tagging All language statements enclosed in a node, define or class structure (read more about puppet control structures [[Language Tutorial]] ) will automatically be tagged with the name of that statement. These automatically- applied

Bug? FORTTRAN help
I was feeling masochistic the other day and we have been having some wierd memory problems so I started digging into the source for L-BFGS-B. In the lbgfsb.c file I see the following code: /* Cholesky factorization of (2,2) block of wn. */ F77_CALL(dpofa)(&wn[*col + 1 + (*col + 1) * wn_dim1], &m2, col, info); if (*info != 0) { *info = -2; return; } If I am not mistaken

arima.sim
Hi, Before I re-invent the wheel, is there a function in R similar to S+'s arima.sim, i.e., a function that simulates arima processes. ts and tseries packages don't seem to have such function, but I may have overlooked it. getting ISO week
Hi all, Is there a simple function already implemented for getting the ISO weeks of a Date object? I couldn't find one, and so wrote my own function to do it, but would appreciate a pointer to the "default" way. If a function is not yet implemented, could the code below be of interest to submit to CRAN? Best Regards, Gustaf --------------------

melt on OSX ignores na.rm=T
Hi list, I run R on Linux and OSX. On both systems I use R version 2.9.2 (2009-08-24) and reshape version: 0.8.2 (2008-11-04). When I do a melt with na.rm=T on a data frame I get different results on these systems: library(reshape) x <- read.table(textConnection("char trial wn p E10I13D0 4 r E10I13D0 4 a E10I13D0 4 c E10I13D0 4 t E10I13D0 4 i E10I13D0 4 c E10I13D0 4 e E10I13D0

"Earlyclobber" but for a subset of the inputs
Hi all, I'm working on a target whose registers have equal-sized subregisters and all of those subregisters can be named (or the other way round: registers can be grouped into super registers). So for instance we've got 16 registers W (as in wide) W0..W15 and 32 registers N (as in narrow) N0..N31. This way, W0 is made by grouping N0 and N1, W1 is N2 and N3, W2 is N4 and N5, ..., W15 is

multiple logical streams
Hi, Why is seekability necessary in case of multiplexed multiple logical streams? Isn't the differentiation based on serial number sufficient to continue decoding of pages in the sequence of their arrival? Counting observations split by a factor when there are NAs in the data
I am a very novice R user, a social scientist (linguist) who is trying to learn to use R after being very familiar with SPSS. Please be kind! My concern: I cannot figure out a way to get an accurate count of observations of one column of data split by a factor when there are NAs in the data. I know how to use commands like tapply and summaryBy to obtain other summary statistics I am interested
