Using data and subset arguments in user-defined functions
Dear list, A while ago, I posted a question asking how to use data or subset arguments in a user-defined function. Duncan Murdoch suggested the following solution in the context of a data argument: data <- data.frame(a=c(1:10),b=c(1:10)) eg.fn <- function(expr, data) { x <- eval(substitute(expr), envir=data) return(mean(x)) } eg.fn(a,data) I've

augPred with lme(...,subset=...)
Hello, Is there a way to get augPred to work with lme if a subset statement is used? For example, if I modify the example from ?augPred.lme to include a subset statement, I get the following error: fm1 <- lme(Orthodont, random = ~1, subset=distance>19) augPred(fm1, length.out = 2, level = c(0,1)) Error in tapply(object[[nm]], groups, FUN[["numeric"]], ...) : arguments

) df2<-subset(df,

Gracias Marcelino. He probado el for y me da este error: Error in aes(x = lon, y = lat, color = get(GT[i]), size = 2) + scale_colour_gradient(low = ("white"), : non-numeric argument to binary operator

bugfix for nls with port algorithm (PR#13540)
Full_Name: Manuel A. Morales Version: 2.8.1 OS: Linux Submission from: (NULL) (137.165.199.246) When fitting a model in nls using the algorithm port with constraints and the shorthand parameter[factor] in the model, I get the following error message: "Error in nls_port_fit(m, start, lower, upper, control, trace) : (list) object cannot be coerced to type 'double' In addition:

subset con los casos presentes en otra df
Buenas, una vez más. Utilizo: data <- subset(data, data$Key %in% data2$Key) para quedarme con los casos de data que están también en data2, de acuerdo a la variable Key. ¿Cómo sería si quiero que sean los que coinciden en Key1 y Key2? Pense hacer un collapse con Key1 y key2, tanto en data como data2, y usarlo como uso key en el ejemplo de arriba, pero debe haber una forma más

Force "square" crosstabulation
Hello list members, I'm looking for a way to force the results of a crosstabulation to be square - that is, to include 0 values. For example: table(letters[1:4],letters[c(1:3,3)]) yields: a b c a 1 0 0 b 0 1 0 c 0 0 1 d 0 0 1 I would like to return: a b c d a 1 0 0 0 b 0 1 0 0 c 0 0 1 0 d 0 0 1 0 Any suggestions? Thanks! -- Manuel A. Morales

Ctrl-c crashes R when run as sudo (PR#7819)
I tried to submit this in R, but not sure if it worked. When running R as sudo, using ctrl-c dumps me to the command line. Hitting exit to exit the terminal window results in R taking 100% of resources. I am using R-2.1.0 on Fedora Core 3. Thanks. Manuel

nls vs nlme: parameter constraints
Hello list, I'm trying to fit a model like beta[trt]/(1+alpha*x) where the data include some grouping factor. The problem is that the estimate for alpha is undefined for some of the treatments - any value greater than 20 is equally good and a step function would suffice. Ignoring the grouping structure, I can fit this using nls with the port algorithm by restricting the upper value of alpha

Subset and plot
Here is a runable program. When I plot Day and Wgt, it graphs all the data points. All I need is daily.sub1 plotted. I also need each "Tanks" to have its own col or pch. When I run it with the line with pch, it gives me nothing. rm(list=ls()) Trial<-rep(c(1,2),each=12) Tanks=rep(c("a3","a4","c4","h4"),each=3,2) Day=rep(c(1:12),2)

Gracias, Manuel [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Subset and point plot
OK, I need help plotting. I have column headings of Day, Wgt, Foodin, Rep, Grp and Tanks. Rep=c(1,2,3) and Tanks=c(a1,a2,a3,a4,a5,a6, c1,c2,c3,c4,c5,c6, h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6). I created a subset where I only would like Rep=2, and Tanks=c(a4,c4,h4) and would like to graph (points) of Wgt and Day. I would think that I only need 3 colors, but when I run with only 3, only 2 lines show up. When I add

Convert string to list?
Let's say I have the following string: str <- "P = 0.0, T = 0.0, Q = 0.0" I'd like to find a function that generates the following object from 'str'. list(P = 0.0, T = 0.0, Q = 0.0) Thanks! -- http://mutualism.williams.edu

Help with subset
I am so happy about learning how to read in multiple Excel files, that I have to try and make another improvement. I know what I have been doing is clumsy, but it works. Hopefully, someone can suggest a more elegant solution. As a novice, I have been using MS-Word and mail merge to write my code. I start with about 2 pages of code, and end up with 2,220 merged pages that I copy and paste into R.

Increasing Console "Paste Buffer"
Hello list. I'm using R from the gnome-terminal in Fedora. My preference is to write programs in VIM, and then source the file from R, or copy and paste the lines into the console. I'm wondering if there is a way to increase the "paste buffer" as an alternative to "sourcing" large analyses. As was mentioned in a recent thread on Linux GUI's, I find that if I paste

Using subset() in a user-defined function
Hello, I'm having a problem with using subset() inside a function I'm writing. Ignoring everything else in the function, the problem can be illustrated by (where master.frame is the data frame I'm using): function1 <- function(arg1="", arg2="", arg3=""){ temp.frame <- subset(master.frame, a == arg1 & b == arg2 & c == arg3) } This

Patching "update.packages" to enable updating of only a user defined subset of packages
Hello dear R developers, I recently found out that it is not possible to limit update.packages() to update only a few packages at a time. The patch offered simply adds a 'subset' parameter and the statement bounded within "if(!missing(subset))" to implement it. The code is pasted bellow (and also attached as an .r file). Might this patch be considered valuable to be added to

líneas sobre un mapa
Gracias Emilio y Jorge.
