Building R package: make pdf & _masked_by_GlobalEnv
Hi.... I am assembling an R package (under Windows XP, R v.2.3) and have a very basic question. Running R CMD build does not generate a pdf. R CMD check generates a .dvi, but I cannot figure out how to automatically create the pdf. I thought from reading the "writing r extensions' manual that R CMD build was supposed to generate the pdf. I am having no success using various

"Pipelining" programs in R
Hello... I would like to use R for 'pipelining' data among several programs. I'm wondering how I can use R to call another program, feed that program a set of parameters, and retrieve the output. E.g., I have an executable that, when opened, prompts the user to enter a set of parameters. The program then executes & prompts the user for the name of an output file. I need to

using kernel density estimates to infer mode of distribution
Hello... Is it possible to use "density" or another kernel density estimator to identify the mode of a distribution? When I use 'density', the resulting density plot of my data is much cleaner than the original noisy histogram, and I can clearly see the signal that I am interested in. E.g., suppose my data is actually drawn from two or more normal (or other)

using kernel density estimates to infer mode of distribut ion
This might be of interest: http://math.usu.edu/~minnotte/research/software/modetree.r (I was not able to get to the link, but google has a cached version.) Prof. Marron's SiZer maps may also be of interest, but AFAIK the code is in Matlab only. problem with 'integrate'
Hello - I am having a problem with the function 'integrate'. I am running R on OSX (R 2.5.1). I am trying to suppress the error message when 'integrate' attempts to integrate across a parameter set giving a non-finite function value. I'm using it in a MCMC / simulated annealing algorithm, and it is entirely possible that some parameter sets will give non-

dynamic variable creation in lists and data frames
Hi I have a question about the creation of variables within lists in R. I am running simulations and am interested in two parameters, ESM and ESMM (the similarity of these names is important for my question). I do simulations to generate ESMM, then plug these values into a second simulation function to get ESM: x <- list() for (i in 1:nsimulations) { x$ESMM[i] <- do_simulation1()

lme: extract variance estimate
For a Monte Carlo study I need to extract from an lme model the estimated standard deviation of a random effect and store it in a vector. If I do a print() or summary() on the model, the number I need is displayed in the Console [it's the 0.1590195 in the output below] >print(fit) >Linear mixed-effects model fit by maximum likelihood > Data: datag2 > Log-likelihood:

Putting together a constantly evolving package
Hi all, I'm putting together some common code + data into a custom package, everything is working out fine, but the ``R CMD INSTALL MyPackage`` call seems to take a particularly long time in the "**data" step: $ R CMD INSTALL MyPackage/ * installing to library ?/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources/ library? * installing *source* package ? MyPackage? ... ** R ** data

Matrix efficiency in 1.9.0 vs 1.8.1
I'm seeking some advice on effectively using the new Matrix library in R1.9.0 for operations with large dense matrices. I'm working on integral operator models (implemented numerically via matrix operations) and except for the way entries are generated, the examples below really are representative of my problem sizes. My main concern is speed of large dense matrix multiplication. In R

As a package author, is there a way to specify that your package is architecture (x86_64) specific?
Hi, Essentially: subject line says it all. I've created a package that wraps an external c++ library (which I didn't write) that only successfully compiles on 64bit machines. I'd like to make the package broadly available, but is there a way to get it on CRAN if the 32-bit builds break by specifying its 64-bit only somehow? Luckily, I've ./configure'd my

Monotone splines
Hello, i have a little problem with R and i hope you can help me. I want to use splines to estimate a function but i want to force the interpolation to be monotone. Is this possible with R ? Thank you, RĂ©mi. --------------------------------- [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

TKEY is unacceptable
Samba 4.1.1 using BIND_DLZ (bind-9.9.1-0.1.P2) on CentOS 6.5 x86_64. I have two domain controllers, dc-1 and dc-2, which each have three network interfaces. Selinux is in permissive mode, and iptables is off. One interface on each dc is to be shut down. So, on dc-1, I do: # nsupdate -g update delete europa.icse.cornell.edu A 192.168.3.250 update delete europa.icse.cornell.edu A 192.168.3.251

Roland, Thank you very much for your attention to this. You should get a medal for all the help you give everyone on this list. On Sun, 10 May 2015, Rowland Penny wrote: > Why ? And why don't they show up when you ask for the zones with samba-tool ? I have that many subnets. As for why they don't show up: they are defined in BIND's configuration and not samba's; they never

Samba4 and NVSv4
Short story: cannot get Kerberized NFSv4 to work. I've googled a great deal and cannot find where I have goofed (and there sure is a lot of misleading and just plain incorrect information out there), so would appreciate another pair of eyes. NFSv4 without Kerberos does work fine, as does ID mapping. We're using NFSv4 in production with sec=sys, but I'm not happy with that. My

bivariate function in gam model
R-users -- I would be interested in tools in R to fit the following gam model: logit(p) = a + f(x1) + f(x2) + f(x1,x2), where f(x1,x2) defines a surface. I have looked into the mgcv library, but it seems only to fit models of the form: logit(p) = a + f(x1) + f(x2) Any ideas? create dataset permanently in package (i.e. default or our own package)
Hi, actually while opening R console and R commander we see some packages like car and datasets. in this packages we have default datasets are available. example: women and prestige like that. now i created a sales dataset importing from excel, xml or text file. now i want to store that dataset permanently in any one of the package like i mentioned above (car or datasets). now i closed my R

Defining environments within functions
How can I define environments within a function so that they are visible to calls to a sub-function? I have defined an objective function, ProfileErr = function(params,...) which I would like to optimize using standard routines (optim, nlminb,....) but which contains auxiliary variables which need to be updated along with params. No optimization routine in R that I have found has facilities
