help with the coordinates of the ECDF object
Hi all R users
I would like to know how acess the coordinates
of the ECDF object.
I look for the example,
in this part:
######################
print(ls.Fn12 <- ls(env= environment(Fn12)))
######################
but I do not know to extract
the Y coordinate and put it in other variable.
My objective is to make a plot
and identify the points with labels.

slanted stacked bar graphs?
Hello R users,
I would like to generate "slanted" stacked bar graphs like those on
the bottom of pages 1 and 2 in this document:
http://www.wssinfo.org/fileadmin/user_upload/resources/JMP-Snapshot-SWA-HLM.pdf
. I've also attached the file to this email (pdf). Does anyone know if
this is possible in R? I have tried googling and searching the R help
archives, and it seems like ggplot2

R-alpha: bug in passing of empty (...)
This is too bad (and an old bug at least since 0.49);
it also breaks some code I have been using in S-plus:
> tst <- function(...) ls(...)
> tst()#--- should really give the same as ls() !!
character(0)
> ls()

bar plot colors
All,
I have a question regarding colors in bar plots. I want to stack a
total of 18 cost values in each bar. Basically, it is six cost types and
each cost type has three components- direct, indirect, and induced
costs. I would like to use both solid color bars and bars with the
slanted lines (using the density parameter). The colors would
distinguish cost types and the lines would

Problem with pointsizes in Graphics
Hello,
I have a problem with the sizes of points on the screen (Code tested for
some R versions on a Solaris system and also for Linux). Maybe it is
best to start with an example:
If I do a very simple plot using the character '.' for the points, e.g.,
n<-100; plot(0:n,0:n,pch='.',cex=1+(0:n)/20)
then not all for all the points the horizontal and vertical dimensions
are the

Changing ComputerModern in postscript(...): A first attempt at contributing....
Hi
First off, thanks to all the various R developers, your package is very
impressive.
I'm not sure what the protocols are for contributing, and I've not done this
before, so please excuse nay obvious errors or oversights... Also I'm by no
means an R,TeX/LaTeX, or typesetting expert, I have largely stumbled my way
to this point.
Objective: I'd like to get R postscript(...) to

Linker problem in installing 64-bit R
Hi,
I am trying to compile R-2.2.1 on Solaris 2.9 with a 64-bit build. Following
the instructions in "R Installation and Adminstration", I changed the
following settings in "config.site":
CC="gcc -m64"
F77="g77 -64"
CXX="g++ -m64"
LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/lib/sparcv9 -L/usr/local/lib"
But I got the following error messages:

Broken installation of mongrel 0.3.13.4 on Sun OS 5.9
Hi,
Anyone succeeded in installing Mongrel on Sun Solaris? It looks like the
installation is broken. I have started using Mongrel recently and not sure
where to look when something is missing.
First the file http11.so was not installed in
/usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mongrel-0.3.13.4/lib
I''ve resolved that and when tried to start mongrel from the command line I

Building wxruby on Solaris 9
Hi all,
Ruby 1.8.1
Solaris 9
wxwindows 2.4.2 (package from blastwave.org)
wxruby 0.3.0
I''m having trouble getting this sucker to build on my Solaris box.
Here''s how I''m building:
ruby extconf.rb --with-xrc-dir=/opt/csw
--with-xrc-include=/opt/csw/lib/wx
The include directive I added because the setup.h file is there (for
whatever reason). And yes, /opt/csw/bin and

Source code for "extractAIC"?
Dear R users:
I am looking for the source code for the R function extractAIC. Type the
function name doesn't help:
> extractAIC
function (fit, scale, k = 2, ...)
UseMethod("extractAIC")
<environment: namespace:stats>
And when I search it in the R source code, the best I can find is in (R
source root)/library/stats/R/add.R:
extractAIC <- function(fit, scale, k = 2,

install.packages() for local source file
Wish to install a local source package on Un*x platform from
within R. Same thing as I can accomplish from cmdline as
$ export R_LIBS=~/R/library
$ cd /path/to/pkg
$ R CMD INSTALL -l $R_LIBS <pkgname>
So, how do you go about this anyway?
And isn't this a bug in 'install.packages'?

45 Degree labels on barplot? Help understanding code previously posted.
Dear colleagues,
i found a line or two of code in the help archives from Uwe Ligges about creating slanted x-labels for a barplot and it works well for my purposes (code below). However, I was hoping someone could explain to me precisely what the code is doing.
I'm aware it's invoking the text command, and I know the first ttwo arguments to text are x and y co-ordinates. I'm also

Stat textbook recommendations?
Hello,
I'm looking for a textbook that can explain some of the math behind
the intro-to-intermediate stuff like ANOVA, multiple regression, non-
parametric tests, etc.
A little background: I took an intro stats course last year and
would like to further my education. Being as that was the highest
(and only) stats class the local community college offers, it looks

Correct Computer Modern font in postscript(..) output
Hi,
I'm trying to get the correct font used when generating italic text in an R
grahic. I have a set of labels that print correctly except it seems the
italic text is justr a slanted version of the TeX computer modern normal
font... I'm using R v1.8.1 on Windows XP, and I get the same result if I
build the pdf using Adobe Acrobat or using MikTeX

Weighted regresion using lm
Hi:
Could anyone help me to clarify this: are the weights normalized inside lm
function (package:stats) before applied to the error term? For example:
>lm (cost ~ material, weights=quatity, data=receipt)
will lm normalize quatity such that sum(quatity) = 1? I traced to lm.wfit and
then the weights get transferred into a precompiled FORTRAN module so I can't
figure out. Thanks!
