Regression line limited by the rage of values
Hi In R, using plot(x,y) followed by abline(lm(y~x)) produces a graph with a regression line spanning the whole plot . This means that the line extends beyond the swarm of data points to the defined of default plot region. With par(xpd=T) it will span the entire figure region. But how can I limit a regression line to the data range, i.e between (xmin, ymin) and (xmax, ymax)? Sorry for

figure with inset
I am trying to plot a figure within a figure (an inset that shows a closeup of part of the data set). I have searched R-help and other sources but not found a solution. What I would like to do is (1) produce a plot (2) specify a window that will be used for the next plot (in inches or using the coordinate system of the plot produced in (1) (3) overlay a new plot in the window specified under (2)

diagonally fill a rectangle with color gradient
Hi, Is it possible to diagonally fill a rectangle with a color gradient? I noticed that the gradient.rect of plotrix could fill a rect either up and down or from side to side. I am looking for something similar but fills diagonally instead, e.g., from the upper left corner to the bottom right. Does anyone know how to do it in R? Thanks, -- Tom [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

plot only x- and y-axis with origin, no box()
hi all, I'm trying for quite some time to have an x- and y-axis, but no entire box. >plot(..,axes=F) >axis(1) >axis(2) Gives this, but their axes do not go to the origin. Quite a number of people find this gap between the two axes disturbing. Has anyone an idea how to let these axes go to the origin? thank you in advance [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Problem with ?curve
Dear all R gurus, I have following syntax: y = c(1:10) chippy <- function(x) { y[5] = x sin(cos(t(y)%*%y)*exp(-t(y)%*%y/2)) } curve(chippy, 1, 20, n=200) But I am getting error while executing : Error in xy.coords(x, y, xlabel, ylabel, log) : 'x' and 'y' lengths differ In addition: Warning message: number of items to

PLotting R graphics/symbols without user x-y scaling
Is it possible to add lines or other user defined graphics to a plot in R that does not depend on the user scale for the plot? For example I have a plot plot(x,y) and I want to add some graphic that is scaled in inches or cm but I do not want the graphic to change when the x-y scales are changed - like a thermometer, scale bar or other symbol - How does one do this? I want to build my own

Histogram with different colors for different portions
Dear Rusers, I would like to color different sections of a histogram different colors. I have an example that was done by "brute force" given below. Has anyone implemented something like this in general? If not, any suggestions/pointers on how to write a general function to do so would be most appreciated. Alan-

Plotting color.legend() outside of plot region
Dear List, I am trying to plot a color.legend() in the right outer margin of my device region. I have read multiple threads on the subject and still can't get it right. I have stolen an example from one of the threads to demonstrate my problem. I have extended the outer margin using par(oma()), and have used par(xpd=NA) to tell it to plot in the device region. I can get the legend to plot

When I'm compiling this example: \documentclass{article} \begin{document} <<fig=T,width=8,height=4>>= par(mfrow = c(1, 2), cex = 0.7) for(i in 1:2) dotchart(1:10) @ <<fig=T,width=8,height=4>>= par(mfrow = c(1, 2), cex = 0.7) for(i in 1:2) hist(1:10) @

How to add background color of a 2D chart by quadrant
Hi, I have a 2D chart that is divided into four quadrants, I, II, III, IV: plot(1:10,ylim=c(0,10),xlim=c(0,10),type="n") abline(v=5,h=5) text(x=c(7.5,7.5,2.5,2.5),y=c(2.5,7.5,7.5,2.5),labels=c("I","II","III","IV")) I would like to fill each quadrant with a background color unique to the quadrant. Does anyone know how to do this in R? Thanks, --

Plotting using image files
This is a strange request, but I want to build a scatterplot using different image files (jpegs, gif, etc.) as the plot symbols. I have thought about setting this up using a very large layout matrix, but I thought someone might have a better approach. Furthermore, is there any way to have R paste an image file into a specific coordinate within a scatterplot? Thanks in advance, Mike Mike

color ranges on a 2D plot
useR's I am trying to color the points on a scatter plot (code below) with two colors. Red for values 0.5 -1.0 and blue for 0.0 - .49. Does anyone know a easy way to do this? x <- runif(100, 0, 1) y <- runif(100, 0, 1) plot(y ~ x, pch=16) Thanks, dxc13 -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/color-ranges-on-a-2D-plot-tp14893457p14893457.html Sent from the R help

r-plot
Dear R-community I have a grueling problem which appears to be impossible to solve: I want to make a simple plot, here is my code: http://gist.github.com/118550 Unfortunately, the annotation of both the x- and y-axis are not correct, as you can see in the following picture: http://www.nabble.com/file/p23739356/plot.png I am not an expert of R, so maybe someone can point me to the solution of

Is abline misbehaving?
Hi experts, I was graciously offered a function to enhance abline by restricting the extent of the line to less than the plotting region. This seems a useful idea, and it looked like the easiest way to program it was to set up a clipping region with "clip", draw the abline and then restore the previous clipping region. Let us call this function ablineclip. After quite a bit of

Complex plotting problem
Hello, I would like to make a plot (preferably lines, but points will do too), where the line segment changes color depending on the value of the y-axis. For example, let's suppose the y-axis range is from -1 to 1. Points close to -1 would be colored blue, while points close to 1 will be colored red. Points in between will be varying degrees of blue/red depending on how close they

plot portion of a line
Dear HelpeRs, Given: x <- rnorm(50) y <- rnorm(50) plot(x,y) abline(lm(x ~ y)) Is there a way to plot just a portion of the line? Say for values of x > 2.0 or x > -2.0 and x < 4.0. (Still fitting all the points.) Thank you, jab -- John Bollinger, CFA, CMT www.BollingerBands.com If you advance far enough, you arrive at the beginning.
