unique possible bug
Hi, I am trying to read in a rather large list of transactions using the arules library. It seems in the coerce method into the dgCmatrix, it somewhere calls unique. Unique.c throws an error when n > 536870912; however, when 4*n was modified to 2*n in 2004, the overflow protection should have changed from 2^29 to 2^30, right? If so, how would I change it in my copy? Do I have to recompile

Vector size limit for table() in R-2.15.1
Hi, First, thanks in advance. Some useful info: >version platform x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu arch x86_64 os linux-gnu system x86_64, linux-gnu version.string R version 2.15.1 (2012-06-22) I'm trying to use the table() function on a 2 column matrix that has 711 million rows (see below). However, it freezes. If I subset the matrix to be less than or equal

Linking Rblas [under Windows]
Dear Prof. Ripley, thank you very much. It works now absolutely fine using a "Makevars" file with the contents you suggested. Thanks again, Roland > -----Original Message----- > From: Prof Brian Ripley [mailto:ripley at stats.ox.ac.uk] > Sent: Thursday, March 09, 2006 12:09 PM > To: Rau, Roland > Cc: r-help at stat.math.ethz.ch > Subject: Re: [R] Linking Rblas

Generalized Singular Value Decomposition (GSVD)
Dear R-users, I couldn't find a function or some help in R-project web about the Generalized Singular Value Decomposition. In MatLab there is a simple function for this algebric issue (gsvd). Is there anything like that in R? And, if not, could you help me to apply this method in R? Avoiding a Loop?
Dear R-Helpers, I have a matrix where the first column is known. The second column is the result of multiplying this first column with a constant "const". The third column is the result of multiplying the second column with "const"..... So far, I did it like this (as a simplified example): nr.of.columns <- 4 myconstant <- 27.5 mymatrix <- matrix(numeric(0), nrow=5,

Subsetting a matrix without for-loop
Dear R-users, I'm struggling in R in order to "squeeze" a matrix without using a for-loop. Although my case is a bit more complex, the following example should help you to understand what I would like to do, but without the slow for-loop. Thanks in advance, Carlo Giovanni Camarda A <- matrix(1:54, ncol=6) # my original matrix A.new <- matrix(nrow=3, ncol=6) # a new

Save parameters from optim during iteration procedure
Dear R-users, I am going to try to be as clearer as possible, showing also an example. 1) I have a function (in my real case it's much more complex) 2) I use "optim" to minimize 3) I want to use as method L-BFGS-B for several reasons 4) I know I could use "trace=6" (in "control") in order to see "live" the procedure 5) I would like to see separately the

Access web content from within R
Hi, I have to search in an online db for registered manufacturers of raw materials. Can I use R for the following: I have a list with monograph numbers eg: l <- c(198, 731,355) Now I want to make a dataframe, containing the monograph number and the information listed under COS: Certificate holder, certificate number, Status, Type Is this possible with R? kind regards Bart -- View this

Weights in glmmPQL
Hello, I am using the R function glmmPQL to fit a logistic GLMM, with weights. I am finding that I get fairly different parameter estimates in glmmPQL from fitting the full dataset (with no "weight" statement) and an equivalent, shorter dataset with the weights statement. I am using the weights statement in the 'glmmPQL' function exactly as in the 'glm' function. I

Historical England and Wales Shape Files
Dear R-user, I would like to apply spatial statistics on some historical data, in particular from 1850 to 1900 by registration district of England and Wales. I have searched in the R-archive, but unsuccessfully. Do you know whether R contains those shape files? Or where would be possible to download and use in R? Thanks in advance, Carlo Giovanni Camarda +++++ This mail has been sent through the

Tiny Typo in R Data Import/Export Manual
Dear all, in the first paragraph in Section 4.3.2 of the "R Data Import/Export Manual", it is written 'We havew tested...'. Most likely it should be 'We have tested...' It is just such a minor thing that I was unsure whether to submit a bug report. I use now R 2.2.1 on Win32 but I guess this is independent of the platform and version. Best, Roland P.S. Thanks for

optim with specific constraints on possible values
Dear R-users, I am working with some grid-search optimization for 13 values of an object function. At glance one may compute the object function for each possible combination of set of parameters, but in my case would not be feasible: taking for example 13 possible values for each parameters like, in logarithm scale, 10^seq(-3,3,.5) will lead to 13^13 combinations of results. As a second trial

wrong fill colors in polygon-map
Dear all, I would like to produce a map with information about the patenting activity in German districts, by coloring districts with different degrees of patenting activity in different colors. I work with the packages maptools, maps and spdep. The map data is read from an external .shp file (+ the corresponding .shx and .dbf files). Plotting a map with the IDs or the patenting indicator itself

Replace only Capital Letters
Dear All, I have these data: exampledata <- c("This is one item", "This is Another One", "And so is This") I would like to find each occurence of a blank space followed by a Capital Letter and replace it by a blank space, a left curly brace, the respective Capital Letter, and then a right curly brace. persp, array and colors
Dear R-users, I'd like to plot a three-dimensional surface and at the meantime I'm using an array. I would like to have the values of my first matrix in the heights of the plot and the colors of the single facet taking into account the second matrix. I hope that the next code will help all of you to understand better my issue, Thanks in advance, Giancarlo ############################ ##

smbclient 3.2: smbc errno NT_STATUS_OK -> 22
As I was upgrading other things, the Debian package management system required me to upgrade Samba, from 3.0.24-6 to 3.2.0-4. All the sudden it quit working, which means I can't run an smbget or smbclient will allow DIR and CD but not GET. Either way with the new version I get (debugging on at level 10) smbc errno NT_STATUS_OK -> 22 followed by Can't read 64000 bytes at offset 0, file

No Graphics Window, Mandrake 10.1
Dear all, I installed Mandrakelinux 10.1 (community) on my notebook. Before, I used Mandrakelinux 9.1 (and later 10.0 as an update). Now I wanted to compile, as before, R. In the beginning, nothing worked but it seemed to be the problem of GCC 3.4.1 which was shipped with my distribution. After downloading and compiling GCC 3.4.3 everything went smoothly during the compilation of R. The problem

Solid and dotted lines saving an xyplot
Dear R-users, I would a small problem saving a graph with postscript after using xyplot. Whereas in the R-screen the two lines are solid, once the image is saved as .eps file the second lines (blue in the following example) is dotted. Here there is a simple example.
