overlaying points and lines on a surface3d rgl plot with axes
Hi R users and experts, I am interested in learning more about the use of 3D plots. Specifically, I want to add points and lines to a surface plot. And get the axes and labels plotted also. Here is what I have tried with an example data set : library(rgl) vol2 <- 2*volcano # Exaggerate the relief library(reshape) mvol2 <- melt(vol2) str(mvol2) # First, persp and persp3d plots do not succeed

3d surface plot (ideally using rgl package)?
Dear HelpeRs, I would be grateful for anybody who might help to produce the following plot (the code for matlab is below) using the "rgl" package of R? [t,r] = meshgrid(linspace(0,2*pi,361),linspace(-4,4,101)); [x,y] = pol2cart(t,r); P = peaks(x,y); figure('color','white'); polarplot3d(P,'colordata',gradient(P)); view([-18 72]); You may see the code and plot

3D-plotting a 2D-matrix that contains z-values (3rd dimension)
Hello, say I have a 2D-matrix (indexed by x and y), which contains z values, which I want to plot over x-y. Either dotted, or if possible as a landscape. I tried around with persp and plot3d (from rgl) and persp3d (from rgl). I sometimes get something that looks good and a while later, when trying some new data I need to worry about that again. Is there something lika a convenience function

3D plots with data.frame
Dear all, Thank you for any help. I have a data.frame and would like to plot it in 3D. I have tried wireframe() and cloud(), I got scatterplot3d(xs) Error: could not find function "scatterplot3d" > wireframe(xs) Error in wireframe(xs) : no applicable method for "wireframe" > persp(x=x, y=y, z=xs) Error in persp.default(x = x, y = y, z = xs) : (list)

Plot polygon in 3D with rgl
Dear R-helpers, an rgl-ers in particular, what is the easiest way to plot a section of a plane in 3D, that is given by the xyz coordinates of the outline? Suppose I have a polygon - which I know for sure is a set of coordinates on the same plane. One method I found is to use surf.tri from the geometry package, and then plot the triangles with rgl.triangles. This method is not perfect though,

adding 3D arrows to 3D plots
Greetings, I would like to add 3D arrows (i.e. arrow-headed vectors linking X1Y1Z1 to X2,Y2,Z2) to a 3D plot; ideally the sort of plot that can be rotated interactively. Is this possible using plot3d, or another 3d plotter in R? While it is easy to draw segments in plot3d (e.g. below), I haven't figured out how to add arrow heads, or to create 3d arrows from scratch. ##two headless

Interactive stereoscopic 3d rendering with RGL plot3d?
Dear R Users, i' wondering, if there is any possibility to render interactive stereoscopic 3d plots in R and use the functionality of those new 3d displays (e.g. with poarisation technology) like this one: > http://shop.fujitsu.com/de/displays/display-p23t-6p-fpr-3d Does anyone know if there are developments toward this feature? Or perhaps someone know how to implement such a

Plotting 3d data?
Hi all! I'm very new to R, and I'm having trouble figuring out how to go from a file of points that I have to a 3d surface plot of the data. I typically have something like this: X Y Z 0.005 0.023 34.45 0.0035 0.63 28.48 . I've tried looking at the persp and wireframe packages, and the rgl package, but I can't seem to figure out how to

can I draw 3D plot like this using R?
hi, all I am looking at R package RGL to draw a colored mesh/surface plot like this one (from matlab). http://www.mathworks.com/access/helpdesk/help/techdoc/visualize/cbar.gif The key features I am looking for is surfaced with grid and color, but not the terrain-like gradient. but I didn't come even close to it after browsing through rgl help file. have anyone drawn something like this

Using 'polygon' in a 3d plot
I'm new to R, after many years of using Matlab. I've found the R function 'polygon' to be nearly equivalent to the Matlab function 'patch'. For example, the R commands: plot(c(0, 5), c(0, 4), type = 'n', asp = 1, ann = FALSE) x <- c(1, 2, 2, 1.5, 1) z <- c(1, 1, 2, 1.7, 2) polygon(x, z, col = 'green') produce a plot with a small green shape exactly

lines on persp plot - proper depth ordering
Hello R-help! I am trying to draw series of lines in 3d, and I am not sure how to get the depth set up properly - lines that are in front of other lines appear to be behind and vice versa. I've been doing this by first generating an empty persp plot, then adding lines via the data into trans3d followed by lines (this is probably a bad approach, but it was the first one I could get working).

What is the best way to plots surfaces in 3 dimensions?

Adding Text to a persp plot using specific coordinates
Hi folks, I'm experiencing some hassle to add some text on a persp plot... Here is the code to generate the persp plot: x <- seq(-1.95, 1.95, length = 30) y <- seq(-1.95, 1.95, length = 30) z <- outer(x, y, function(a,b) a*b^2) persp(x, y, z,xlim=c(-2,2),ylim=c(-2,2),zlim=c(-8,8), phi=30, theta=-30,nticks=8,ticktype="detailed") I've tried the text() function :

rgl package don't draw points with a color over points with another color
I want to plot points with different colors to show different selections of points in a 3d plot. My problem is that if I plot a red point at a location where already a blue point was plotted, than the point is still blue. Is there a parameter or so which can be used to draw over a existing point? Example: > require(rgl) > open3d() > plot3d(a<-c(1,2,3,4,5),a,a,type="l",

rgl: plot3d and ellipse3d
Hi I'm trying to make a 3d plot showing a point cloud, the corresponding data ellipse and the principal axes of the ellipse as vectors. library(rgl) data(trees) cov <- cov(trees) mu <- mean(trees) plot3d(trees, type="s", size=0.5, col="blue", cex=2) In this step, an extra box is added. I've tried using box=FALSE, but it has no effect. # how to avoid the

Draw level lines on the surface of a bivariate function
Hello, Is it possible to draw level lines on the surface of a bivariate function? In the following example, to draw surface and levels lines for a multivariate normal law, I use persp, trans3d, contourLines and lines, but if the lines are correctly drawn, some parts of them are, of course, visible even if they are drawn on a non visible "face". Any suggestion to avoid this problem

two perspective plots in in plot

persp plot + plotting grid lines
Dear all; Does anyone know how to add grid lines to a persp plot? I've tried using lines(trans3d..) but the lines of course are superimposed into the actual 3d surface and what I need is something like the plot shown in the following link: http://thermal.gg.utah.edu/tutorials/matlab/matlab_tutorial.html I'll appreciate any ideas Thanks PM

Plotting the complex fft in 3D?
Hello, I'm new to R (using it since about two weeks), but absolutely a fan of it from the beginning on. :-) Best tool for working with data I found. :-) I tried using the fft() and other funcitons for analysing time series. What I would be glad to have, would be a convenient way to display the complex result of a fft in a way, that real and imaginary parts each use an axis for themselves,

rgl: reproduce final state of interactive plot?
After interacting with a 3d plot (eg plot3d, persp3d), is there a way to capture the final settings of view angles, etc, so that the final plot could be easily reproduced? The plot functions themselves just return a vector of 'ids'. -- View this message in context: http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/rgl-reproduce-final-state-of-interactive-plot-tp3667866p3667866.html Sent from the R help
