writing polygons/segments to shapefiles (.shp) or other A rcGIS compatible file
The main limitation of the shapefiles package that I put together is that it
does not create shapefiles from R objects - rather it only writes shapefiles
that have been read into R and manipulated within the constraints of the
existing file structure. By this I mean that for example you can change the
coordinates of points and write them back out. Or you can add a bunch of
blank columns in the

writing polygons/segments to shapefiles (.shp) or other ArCGIS compatible file
I am not sure a previous e-mail reached the list (no mail aknowledgement from R-boundle etc.). The question was how to write polygon
or segment coordinates into a shapefile set or any other ArcGIS supported format. The library shapefiles seems to do something but
the documentation is a bit beyond of my mind.... and I cannot get the meaning of the functions write**** and its application to the

Dear R experts,
I am new to the list and R software. I need to convert arcview file to Winbugs having R has middle package. Got from friends that it is possible following the steps:
1. Converting arcview shapefile to "cgm clear text file"
2. Downloading "convert.r" to into R

Thank you.

Graphically show population density for a specific geographic area using R
Hi,
we all know that R is powerful in dealing with graphics.
I am now trying to use R to show some geographic attributes for a
specific geographic area on a graph. For example, if I would like to
generate a graph showing the population densities (in terms of the
intensity of colors) for Illinois State by zip codes. I did some
research; and it seems that package "maptools" is

Problem exporting table with many columns to dbf
Hello,
I'm newbie in R and I have a problem exporting a table with many columns to
a dbf file.
I found an error when I open the result DBF file on other software and also
importing it on R again.
Here a example snippet of the problem (on a GNU/Linux OS):

Is it a bug?

Re: using shapefile as owin
My sincerest apologies, as this is a very elementary problem, but I have
searched through archives and FAQs and on the web, and I am at the end of my
own resources.
I need to do analysis of a spatial point process occuring with four
counties, using spatstat. I've had no trouble importing the shapefiles, but
I can't seem to figure out what I need to do in order to use the boundary as

Hola a todos.
Estoy utilizando R , más concretamente los paquetes maptools y sp,

I have a shapefile in UTM coordinate system and I would like to transform it

convUL to transform between the two coordinate systems when data is in the
form of a data frame with attributes specifying the coordinate system.
However, when shapefiles are imported using function read.shape (package

Plotting shapefiles on existing maps
Dear All,
This is probably a very basic question but:
I have plotted a map of the Barents Sea and surrounding coastline using:
map('worldHires',ylim=c(50,85),xlim=c(5,65),fill=T,resolution=0)
map.axes()
map.scale(x=30,metric=T)
Next, I imported a shapefile with depth contours for the sea:
contours<-read.shape("D://My Documents/BarentsSea.shp",dbf.data=T)

monte carlo simulations/lmer
Hi - I am doing some monte carlo simulations comparing bayesian (using
Plummer's jags) and maximum likelihood (using lmer from package lme4

I would like to know if there is a way I can flag nonconvergence and
exceptions. Currently the simulations just stop and the output reads
things like:
