Install rubygems error
I made the mistake of trying to upgrade to 1.8.4 from 1.8.2 and had intended
to upgrade to rails 1.1. I have now completely borked my ruby gems
installation. After installing ruby I get the following error when trying to
execute gem:
/usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:21:in

Rails Install on Linux (SuSE 9.3) Fails
Hello.
I''m just getting started with RoR, and I''m none too good at Linux
either. :-)
But anyway, I got ruby-1.8.4.tar.gz and rubygems-0.8.11 and unpacked
them in separate directories under my normal user (jim) home and went
there and did
./configure, then make, then make test (test succeeded), then su - and
make install, and then in the unpacked RubyGems folder, ruby

Problem installing rubygems-0.8.11
I''m having an issue installing rubygems-0.8.11 on 2 different boxes

where I am cross-compiling things for the arm-linux architecture. It
is a debian sarge box using the ruby1.8 package which is ruby-1.8.2.
I successfully cross-compiled ruby 1.8.4 for the arm-linux
architecture and it runs well on the embedded

Error messages: relative paths seem weakly handled?
I create my rails app, with modifications to the default from a script.
Having had to upgrade rails once, and knowing that this is likely to
happen again because of the rapid updating of rails, it seems the
most sensible way to do it. As a result, I often do
/bin/rm -rf csestore
and then run my script from another window to repopulate it.
So naturally, to save having to cd into csestore, and

OS X Rails - Nuby
OK, I''m diving into new things - a .net programmer and windows user
trying to develop in Rails on my Mac. Initial setup was easy, and I had
things working and was thrilled with myself. Then I shut down. Next
time I booted up, mysql was acting all kinds of funny. I finally got
that working again (I *think* it mostly had to do with me not having the

Re: Problem with Rails and OCI8
Here''s a solution to the OCI8 problem shown below (change /usr/local/oracle
to your site''s oracle):
If this happens when you are running scripts at the shell prompt:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/oracle/lib
If this happens in your apache error_log, add to httpd.conf:
SetEnv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/local/oracle/lib
