optimization with Sparse matrices
To whom it may concern, I am trying to maximize a log-likelihood function using optim. This is a simple problem with only 18 parameters. To conserve memory, I am using sparse matrices (SLAM) for some of the data matrices used in the computation of the likelihood. However, optim appears to convert the sparse matrix back to regular data format. This causes me to run out of memory as R tries to

[PATCH] Values of cpu_weight and cpu_cap are lost after xend restart

This is because the names of parameters differ between a SXP file to

[PATCH] nouveau/secboot/gm20b: initialize pointer in gm20b_secboot_new()
We accidentally set "psb" which is a no-op instead of "*psb" so it generates a static checker warning. We should probably set it before the first error return so that it's always initialized. [PATCH] drm/nouveau/secboot/gm20b: Fix return value in case of error
If 'ioremap()' returns 0, 'gm20b_tegra_read_wpr()' will return 0 as well, which means success. Return -ENOMEM instead Signed-off-by: Christophe JAILLET <christophe.jaillet at wanadoo.fr> --- Not sure that -ENOMEM is the best value. I've taken it because it is often used in such a case. --- drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/nvkm/subdev/secboot/gm20b.c | 2 +- 1 file changed, 1

Samba works only with ROOT & Samba Client can't access Windows XP Shares
I just started learning to use Samba. I just have the default shares it starts with. When I try to access them I can only use the ROOT account to do it. How can I use my normal account, that I have on the system, to access my shares from another networked computer? The other computer is running Windows XP and I setup shares on there as well. When I browse for host I can see it but it wont

Any thoughts? thanks! peter r ................................ Peter

vectorization of groups of dot products
I have a set of n vectors, x_1, ..., x_n, of the same length. I would like to form the vector of dot products -- x_1'x_1, ..., x_n'x_n the fastest way I can think to do this is to put the vectors into a matrix and do diag(crossprod(X)) however, this seems to be very wasteful since this computes n(n+1)/2-n unnecessary dot products. Is there a better way using existing functions in R?

Problems accessing a file share using kerberos
Hi, I'm trying to access a file share on what I believe is a netapp server using kerberos authentication. I've done a kinit and gotten credentials and then ran: $ smbclient -U pedrocr //gsb-filer2/pedrocr -k -d10 This actually increased the number of credentials klist shows so looks good in that regard. Howeever, I got the error: """ SPNEGO login failed:

.Call question
Writing R Ext says to treat R objects that are arguments to .Call as read only (i.e. don't modify). I have a long list of lists that and I want to avoid the overhead of a copy in my C code. I would just like to modify some of the elements of list by replacing them with elements of exactly the same size/type. below is an example of the essence of the problem. This seems to work. Is this

Problem with RMA using limma, oligo and pdInfoBuilder packages
Hi, I am a Ph.D. student from Québec, Canada. I’m a beginner with R and Bioconductor. Until now the only experience I have is in analyzing microarray data using affy and limma packages. Now I am trying to analyze Rat Gene 10 st arrays and I would like to run RMA analysis and Smyth moderated t test on those arrays. Since no cdf official package is available for those arrays, after reading many

run-time of an R function
I have noticed dramatic differences in the run-time for the execution of one of my functions depending on whether or not R was restarted. Immediately after restart of R GUI, exec time = 2.8 min. If I then repeat the execution of the function in the same R session, exec time = 7.1 min. Removing all objects via rm(list=(all=TRUE)) and initiating gc (gc(reset=TRUE)) helps, but only slightly (exec

[PATCH 0/4] secboot: be more resilient on errors
This series fixes two cases where behavior on secure boot errors could be improved: 1) Patch 2 propages secure-boot errors from GR init, making sure initialization fails as it should. Failure to do so results in a black screen during boot, as reported in FD bug 94990. 2) Patches 3-4 make the absence of required secure firmware files a non-fatal error. The previous behavior was to give up

[PATCH v3 05/15] secboot: remove fixup_hs_desc hook
This hook can be removed if the function writing the HS descriptor is aware of WPR settings. Let's do that as it allows us to make the ACR descriptor structure private and save some code. [PATCH v3 07/15] secboot: generate HS BL descriptor in hook
Use the HS hook to completely generate the HS BL descriptor, similarly to what is done in the LS hook, instead of (arbitrarily) using the acr_v1 format as an intermediate. This allows us to make the bootloader descriptor structures private to each implementation, resulting in a cleaner an more consistent design. S3 vs S4 classes
I have developed a package, bayesm, which uses existing classes of objects. I would like to add a new class corresponding to objects from this package. I have been reading about classes and all sources tell me that I should use so-called "new" or S4 classes. However, a major purpose of defining a class for my package would be to add methods to the existing generic functions: print,
