installing labDSV library
I am trying to install labDSV from http://labdsv.nr.usu.edu/ into
R-Windows 1.5.0.
It only comes as a TAR file which extracts into folders that seem to match
those for other libraries DATA, MAN, R and SRC. I have manually copied
these folders into a folder called labDSV under the Library directory
under R.
However when I load the library I get a message that the library contains
no R code.

gam and ordination (vegan and labdsv surf and ordisurf)
I have a general question about using thin plate splines in the surf
and ordisurf routines. My rudimentary knowledge of a gam is that with
each predictive variable there is a different smooth for each one and
then they are added together with no real interaction term (because
they don't handle this well?). Now, If I have two variables that
have a high D^2 score and a low GCV score (I am

Use generalised additive model to plot curve
Readers,
I have been reading 'the r book' by Crawley and think that the
generalised additive model is appropriate for this problem. The
package 'gam' was installed using the command (as root)

3-d splinefun
hello,
is it possible to do something like splinefun(x,y), but with a 3rd
dim?
for example, if i have a 2-dim system like:
x<-1:100
y<-rexp(100,1)
func<-splinefun(x,sort(y))
func(n) # returns interpolated value of y (after sorting) given x=n
# i can check this by:
plot(x,sort(y))
lines(spline(x,sort(y)))
Can i do the same thing with an x,y, and z? i have found the akima

Shy Suggestion?
The R-exts manual says about 'Suggests' field in package DESCRIPTION:
"The optional `Suggests' field uses the same syntax as `Depends' and
lists packages that are not necessarily needed."
However, this seems to be a suggestion you cannot refuse. If you suggest
packages:
(a line from DESCRIPTION):
Suggests: MASS, ellipse, rgl, mgcv, akima, lattice

Compilation error on mgcv_1.1-7 on OS X (10.3)
Greetings
I run into a compilation error when updating to mgcv_1.1-7 in R 2.0.0 on
OS X 10.3. Note that other pacakges have compiled nicely.
Some details are given below, but in short it looks like it's seeking for
/usr/local/lib/powerpc-apple-darwin6.8/3.4.2/
which I don't have. But I do have
/usr/lib/gcc/darwin/3.3
i.e a lower version of GCC in a different directory. More

Any workaround for CRAN Mac OS X compiler switch to R 2.10.0?
Hello,
Has the CRAN compiler for Mac OS X switched to using R 2.10? I
recently uploaded an update for the package I maintain to CRAN, and
it's no longer possible to run the package after installing CRAN
binaries for this package under Mac OS X 10.5 and R 2.9.1.
The package is picante 0.7-1. It passes all checks on CRAN cleanly.
Under R 2.9.1 on Mac OS X 10.5, the package can be

TSA package dependencies
In Ubuntu 10.04, from the R command line
install.packages('TSA',dep=TRUE)
downloads & installs about 100 packages from CRAN, including some big
ones like Zelig. It's only supposed to depend on leaps, locfit, mgcv,
& tseries & through them akima, lattice, quadprog, zoo, & stats.
Not a big problem of course, but I wondered if anyone else had noticed
this behaviour.
