[ESRI-L] outline polygons of point clumps
Sorry, I did not make my question clear. Since I have a point theme with many points, some of them may clump together. the problems here are: 1. how to find clumps in a point theme? 2. the convex-hull extension I found only deal with all the points in a theme at each time? how to make each convex hull around each point clump automatically? Thanks. Xiaohua On 5/12/06, Bob Booth <bbooth

clump of binary pixels on raster
Dear all, I have a set od 30,000 binary landscapes, which represent habitat and non-habitat cover. I need to generate images that identify those neighbour (rule 8) pixels as one patch ID, and a different patch ID for each clump of pixels. I coded it using labcon(adehabitat), but as some of my landscapes have so many patches, labcon not finish and entry in a eternal looping. By other side, I coded

writing polygons/segments to shapefiles (.shp) or other A rcGIS compatible file
The main limitation of the shapefiles package that I put together is that it does not create shapefiles from R objects - rather it only writes shapefiles that have been read into R and manipulated within the constraints of the existing file structure. By this I mean that for example you can change the coordinates of points and write them back out. Or you can add a bunch of blank columns in the

writing polygons/segments to shapefiles (.shp) or other ArCGIS compatible file
I am not sure a previous e-mail reached the list (no mail aknowledgement from R-boundle etc.). The question was how to write polygon or segment coordinates into a shapefile set or any other ArcGIS supported format. The library shapefiles seems to do something but the documentation is a bit beyond of my mind.... and I cannot get the meaning of the functions write**** and its application to the case

New package: adehabitat
Dear all, I have just uploaded a package to CRAN a new package called 'adehabitat'. This package is intended for ecologists who want to analyse the use of space by animals. Many functions currently used in this field are available to highlight habitat selection by animals (selection ratios, ENFA, habitat suitability maps with the algorithm DOMAIN or Resource Selection Functions) or to

Ways to speed up R code?
Hi R-users: Yesterday I ran a R code for 9 hours and it did not show any sign to stop. Then I interrupted it and found it had completed 82.5%. This morning I decided to wait for another 11 hours to see what will happen. Wait a minute, I heard that transforming data.frame to matrix will make R code faster. Then I made the modification in my R code. Oooh, the new code finished within 30 minutes!!

Reading an ArcGIS raster file
Dear members, How can I read and plot an ArcGIS raster file into R ? The file has extension .aux and contains floating point bathymetry data. The purpose is to create a spatial model in R that uses ArcGIS map data. I have managed to read and plot various shape files into my R project, but I am stuck with this now. I am new to this list and also to R, so any help would be much appreciated. Many

How to plot circular data in the directions of 0, 0.5pi, pi and 1.5pi
Hi R users, I use plot.circular(rad, stack=T,bins=4) and could just obtain the four stacks in the directions of 45, 135, 225 and 315 degrees. But I want them in 0, 90, 180 and 270 degrees. Is there any parameter or any other function to make it? Thanks for helping a R beginner. -- Xiaohua Dai, Dr. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Centre for

Arcview .iwg temporary file
We have about 15 file servers with samba (version 3.05, 3.0.14 and 3.0.22) on Redhat 7.1-7.3 and FC4. Opening on it with arcview a .dwg file is fine, it creates a good temporary .iwg (some MB), like using the file on a local disk. Only in one installation (RH 7.3 updated, with kernel 2.4.20-28, samba 3.0.5 and 3.0.22) we have a problem. Arcview write always a .iwg file with a 8 byte size, and

Slow Network performance with ArcView and Samba
Hi, We are experiencing a very slow network when loading files from the Samba server (Samba V1.9.18p4 on Digital Unix V4.0B). A file transfer of a 5 MB file from the samba server to a NT Workstation with FTP takes about 10 seconds. The transfer of the same file with using the NT-Explorer takes also about 10 seconds. The load of the same file (it is a tiff file) with a application called
