Labelling boxplot with fivenumber summary
I am very new to R so forgive me if this seems basic but I have done extensive searching and failed to come up with the answer for myself. I am trying to label a boxplot I have created with the values for the median, upper and lower quartiles and max and min values. I have been unable to do this or find anything on the net to say how it might be done. Is this possible and if so how? Regards,

boxplot() confuses x- and y-axes (PR#10345)
Full_Name: Bob O'Hara Version: 2.6.0 OS: Windows XP Submission from: (NULL) (88.112.20.250) Using horizontal=TRUE with boxplot() confuses it as to what is an x- or y-axis. At least, xlim= and ylim= are the wrong way round, log="x" (or "y") and xaxt= work as expected, I haven't looked at anything else. Some code to see if you can reproduce the bug (or discover

boxplot(): formating median in another linethickness?
Dear guRus, I want to do some boxplots, but the median sould appear in another line-thickness and another color. I do not know, what to do in order to realise my wishes. boxplot, vertical position of x-axis labels
hello, i can't figure out how to change the vertical position of my x axis labels.. boxplot(c(1:12)~c(rep("1",6),rep("2",6)),at=c(1,2), col=c(0,"grey"),las=1,xaxt="n") ### i put paragraphs in the x-labels because of limited horizontal space axis(1,at=c(1,2),adj=1,labels=c("Salix Scrub","Tall Forb")) ...the labels are one line

help understanding box plots
Another naive stats question. I'm trying to better understand what boxplots are telling me. I think what I see is the median and the boundaries of the 1st and 3rd quartiles. The whiskers represent the range of the data unless there are points which are outside "range" (default: 1.5) times the distance from the median to that quartile. Is that right? I've read the

multiple boxplots
Hello, I want to plot 3 boxplots [ par(mfrow=c(3,1)) ] but the first one has 8 groups, the 2nd has 7 and the third has 6. But I the groups to line up: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 3 4 5 6 7 8 where the numbers actually refer to years. I suspect I have to manipulate the function bxp(). Is there a relatively simple way to do this? Thanks for any help. Jeff Breiwick NMFS, Seattle

boxplot with text and symbols on x
Hello R-user community! I am running R 2.7.0 on a Power Book (Tiger). (I am still R and statistics beginner) I did the following : pdf("InLnegthMaxHomogeneity.pdf") boxplot(inflorescence_length_Max~Sex, main="Bartletts Homogeneity for inflorescence length",data=FemMal_Sex) Homo<-bartlett.test(FemMal_Sex$inflorescence_length_Max,FemMal_Sex$Sex) text( 2, 500,

Subset dataframe based on condition
Hi, I am trying to extract subset of data from my original data frame based on some condition. For example : (mydf -original data frame, submydf - subset dada frame) >submydf = subset(mydf, a > 1 & b <= a), here column a contains values ranging from 0.01 to 100000. I want to extract only those matching condition 1 i.e a > . But when i execute this command it is

boxplot: how to display x-labels vertically
Hi, I need to draw a boxplot for a dataset consisting about 60 groups, the problems is by default the x labels are drawn horizontally, so it is impossible to display the names of all 60 groups. However, if the labels are drawn vertically, it should be possible to display all names. How can this be done? Thanks. Steve [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

boxplot labelling levels
I want the levels to appear in the boxplot instead of 1 and 2. What do I need to do for that? Here is the dummy code. x<-runif(100,50,80) x1<-runif(100,70,80) True.positives<-c(x,x1) splice<-factor(c(rep("Human.AA.200",100),rep("Human.AA.100",100))) splice<-factor(splice,levels=c("Human.AA.200","Human.AA.100"))

boxplot axis labelling
Hi, i'm very new to R, so sorry for what i'm sure is a very basic question. I'm producing a boxplot with the data below: df3<-data.frame( x=c(10,11,115,12,13,14,16,17,18,21,22,23,24,26,27,28,29,3,30,32,33,34,35,4,4 1,45,5,50,52,56,58,6,67,6738,68,7,8,9), fq=c(8,11,1,2,4,4,2,2,6,3,4,2,2,1,1,1,4,51,3,1,1,1,1,35,1,1,19,2,1,1,1,14,1, 1,1,10,13,5),

Need a little help setting the upper median using "layout"...
The code I'm using is shown below. I would like to have a larger median at the top of the plot so that I can show the entirity of "title_text". Several times I tried messing with "par(mar", but that seemed to make matters worse. By any chance can anyone provide any insight as to the best way to increase the top/upper/northern margin, so the entirity of the title is

Text on a boxplot graph
Hi all, Could anybody help me figure out how to write text on a boxplot. I have to plot 9 boxplots side by side on a single graph. On the x-axis I write numeric values with the 'names' argument but I'd like to add one label (character value) in the middle of each box. I know how to use the text() function for regular y~x plots but in this particular case, I'm kinda lost...

Fitting long names in boxplot
I have the following code: subsetTimeDataPlot <- boxplot(subsetTimeData$time ~ subsetTimeData$build, horizontal=True, col="lightblue", ...) The 'names' component consists of strings that can be up to 20-30 characters long. How would I go about drawing the names vertically (not the boxplot) or shrinking the names text (I tried cex.names=0.7 but this didn't help).

method or package to make special boxplot
Hi, All, I am trying to use R to make the following type of boxplot while I couldn't find a way to do it. My dataset looks like X1 Y1 X2 Y2.... SPLIT. The split highlights my experiment details and both x and y are continuous numerical values. I need to plot y vs. x with split as legend and boxplot has to be used for all splits. May I ask how to get it? Currently available boxplot only

boxplot knowing Q1, Q3, median, upper and lower whisker value
Dear list, I am using a external program that outputs Q1, Q3, median, upper and lower whisker values for various datasets simultaneously in a tab delimited format. After importing this text file into R, I would like to plot a boxplot using these given values and not the original series of data points, i.e. not using something like boxplot(mydata). Is there an easy way for doing this? If I am not

boxplot statistics
I have read and reread the boxplot and the boxplot stats page, and I still cannot understand how and what boxplot shows. I realize that this might be due to me not knowing enough statistics, but anyway... First, how does boxplot determine the size of the box? And is the line inside the box the mean or the median (or something completely different?) And how does it determine how long out the
