About Mcneil Hanley test for a portion of AUC!
Dear all
I am trying to compare the performances of several methods using the AUC0.1
and
not the whole AUC. (meaning I wanted to compare to AUC's whose x axis only
goes to
0.1 not 1)
I came to know about the Mcneil Hanley test from Bernardo Rangel Tura
and I referred to the original paper for the calculation of "r" which is an
argument of the function

How to compare areas under ROC curves calculated with ROCR package
Dear all,
I try to compare the performances of several parameters to diagnose
lameness in dogs.
I have several ROC curves from the same dataset.
I plotted the ROC curves and calculated AUC with the ROCR package.
I would like to compare the AUC.
I used the following program I found on R-help archives :

How to compare areas under ROC curves calculated with ROC R package
I might be missing something but I thought that AUC was a measure for
comparing ROC curves, so there is nothing else needed to "compare" them. The
larger AUC is the higher correlation of 2 variables compared. No other
measures or calculations are needed.

value returned by by()
Hi,
I noticed that by() returns an object of class 'by', regardless of what
its argument 'simplify' is. ?by says that it always returns a list if
simplify=FALSE, yet by.data.frame shows:

UIDL conversion courier -> dovecot
I've got a weird split setup where POP3 is currently handled by Courier
(courier-imap-3.0.2 distribution), and IMAP is currently handled by the
RHEL 5 version of Dovecot (1.0.7)
I'm trying to figure out a way to convert the POP3 UIDLs (in cases where
the courierpop3dsizelist is newer than dovecot-uidlist, at least) to
something that Dovecot will read, or to configure Dovecot's pop3 to

rbind'ing empty rows in dataframes in 1.4.1 versus 1.5.0
Hi,
In 1.4.1, I was able to create extra "empty" rows in a dataframe as so:
> x <- data.frame(a = letters[1:3], b = 1:3)

difference in rbind() [print?] behavior between 2.2.1 and 2.3.0
I'm a little confused by a change in behavior from 2.2.1 to 2.3.0. In 2.2.1 I
could do

FUN argument to return a vector in aggregate function
Hi All,
I am currently doing the following to compute summary statistics of
aggregated data:
a = aggregate(warpbreaks$breaks, warpbreaks[,-1], mean)
b = aggregate(warpbreaks$breaks, warpbreaks[,-1], sum)
c = aggregate(warpbreaks$breaks, warpbreaks[,-1], length)
ans = cbind(a, b[,3], c[,3])
This seems unnecessarily complex to me so I tried

Deleting certain observations (and their imprint?)
I'm manipulating a large dataset and need to eliminate some observations based on specific identifiers. This isn't a problem in and of itself (using which.. or subset..) but an imprint of the deleted observations seem to remain, even though they have 0 observations. This is causing me problems later on. I'll use the dataset warpbreaks to illustrate, I apologize if this isn't in

Casting lists to data.frames, analog to SAS
I have a specific question and a general question.
Specific Question: I want to do an analysis on a data frame by 2 or more
class variables (i.e., use 2 or more columns in a dataframe to do
statistical classing). Coming from SAS, I'm used to being able to take a
data set and have the output of the analysis in a dataset for further

issues with environment handling in model.frame()
Dear all,
model.frame behaves in a way I don't expect when both its formula and
subset argument are passed through a function call.
This works as expected:
