http caching a dynamic page
Is it possible to take advantage of http caching/proxy caching with
dynamic pages? i.e. pages with section/part that can change over time
but certain part of the page remain the same. I would rather not keep
re-rendering the static part but insure the dynamic part are rendered
with fresh data.

Fragment caching with Memcached slow?
Hi,
I am trying to do fragment caching using :mem_cache_store. However, when I
compare it to fragment caching using :file_store, it seems to be a lot
slower.
Here are the results:

NEW RAILS SITE: Riding two bubbles at the same time
Today we finally opened the doors to "Street Easy" (http://
www.streeteasy.com/), a Real Estate Research Site for New York City.
It was built by two guys in three months. It doesn''t have tags, but
it has google maps. It rides two bubbles at the same time. It''s like
road kill: the price tags will shock you, but you won''t be able to
stop browsing around.

ActiveResource cache using memcache-client
I''ve created this class that overrides methods for
find, delete, destroy, reload, and save in activeresource. The code
populates a local memcache daemon and uses that cache for future find
requests. I''m posting it here to get whatever feedback people have.
I''m most interested in the pro/con of inheritance over a mixin and how
such a module might be tested.

[LLVMdev] RFC: Does having a separate IPA library still make sense?
We have quite a few analyses that are in the Analysis library despite being
module passes, and not very many interprocedural analysis anyways. Should
we fold them together?
If we do fold them together, should the source code still live in a
subdirectory?
If the code still lives in a subdirectory (regardless of the library
separation) would it make sense to put the header files in a subdirectory

No reaction from memcached
I''ve been following the instructions here http://nubyonrails.com/
articles/read/716 on how to get started with memcached.
Starting up ./script/console production I get at couple of deprecation

Some php5 extensions not installed until a second run
Hi, I''ve inherited a puppet setup for automating php installation and
extension management. We''re on Debian and we''ve encountered a strange
issue that I''ve traced down back to puppet I think. I''ve stripped back the
configuration and made the problem reproducible, logs and config pasted
below.

Applying function to lots of separate data sets
I have a total mental block and can't find my way around this seemingly
simple problem:
I have created a function such that:
my_answer_1=myfuntion(my_input_1)
I am wanting to perform this calculation over a large number of datasets,
but am having real difficulty calling and assigning - i think the problem
les in the fact that I need to paste for call and assign.
this is my best attempt so

memcache for variables
hey,
for performance reasons i want to cache (template) variables using
memcache, making access to data easy in templates by using a simple
syntax like <%=users(2).name%>. this actually should tell the view to
load the field ''name'' from the model/table ''users'' with id=2. it first
tries memcache and if not found, loads the data from the and stores it

The New Memcache ?
Hey All !
I ended up browsing to Eric Hodel''s blog the other night, and found his
entry about the new cache_model and memcache-client.
Now, it looks like it''s "officially" out in the open:
http://weblog.rubyonrails.com/articles/2006/01/20/caching-models-with-memcached
In my application, I''ve been staying away from caching my models, and

mongrel, memcache and sessions
Hi,
I''m using mongrel-0.3.13.3 with memcache-client-1.0.3 for storing sessions.
It was working fine with actionpack-1.12.0, but when I upgraded to
actionpack-1.12.3, I started getting a "can''t convert String into Hash"
error from memcache.rb from memcache-client.
I was able to fix it by changing the way the MemCache object was created in

Can't Get Caching to Work with Heroku and Memcache
I''m on Heroku and trying to implement caching in my Rails app, but I''m
running into some problems that I don''t understand. I thought it would be
easy after reading the Rails Guide and Heroku docs on caching strategies,
but apparently doing something wrong.

cached_model and memcache-client slowness
Hi there,
I''ve got a Rails app that''s a little unusual in that it maintains a
database representation of a filesystem (for an image gallery). Thus, if
the filesystem is essentially ''out of date'' then the controller''s list
action will end up invoking a model update (which involves a filesystem
scan).
I''m using sqlite3 as this app will be

Recommendation: Stalled Mongrel? Memcache Hates Spaces
Hi Everyone,
There''s quite a few of you who have contacted me about Mongrel suddenly stopping. After a lot of investigation, I found that the common thread between all of you is memcache and Eric Hodel''s memcache-client. People who were running this combination would have intermittent pauses and investigating the stalled mongrels showed that memcache-client was waiting for

User Error during memcached integration
Hello, I hope all is well. I am hoping someone can help me with a
problem that I am certain is user error?

including integration, development and qa. However, the production
servers give the following error:

cached_model-1.0.1 ActiveRecords + memcache
The new version of cached_model features bug fixes and tests!
Bugs fixed:
Updating a model no longer stores associations into the cache. This
could cause strange, hard-to-debug bugs when an invalid set of
assocations was retrieved along with a cached model.
Reloading a model refreshes the cache.
When CachedModel::find can''t understand query params and a single

php-memcache module and Centos 3
Hi all,
I need to compile the php-memcache PECL module but it needs a php
4.3.3 version.
RHEL 3/Centos 3 provides only a php 4.3.2 but the symbol '
php_stream_pclose' is unknown. The compilation fail with :
