version comparison puzzle
Can anyone explain what I'm missing here?
max(pp1 <- package_version(c("0.99999911.3","1.0.4","1.0.5")))
## [1] ?1.0.4?
max(pp2 <- package_version(c("1.0.3","1.0.4","1.0.5")))
## [1] ?1.0.5?
I've looked at ?package_version , to no avail.
Since max() goes to .Primitive("max")
I'm having trouble figuring out

Creating an array [0 to 101] of a list
Hi
I looked, but I didn't find it:
I need an array [0 to 101] where each element is a list (the result of
Kest in spatstat).
I.e. I want to do:
A[2] <- Kest(pp1)
A[3] <- Kest(pp2)
...
A[101] <- Kest(pp100)
How can I create A ?

Problem with Numerical derivatives (numDeriv) and mvtnorm
I'm trying to obtain numerical derivative of a probability computed
with mvtnorm with respect to its parameters using grad() and
jacobian() from NumDeriv.
To simplify the matter, here is an example:
PP1 <- function(p){
thetac <- p
thetae <- 0.323340333
thetab <- -0.280970036
thetao <- 0.770768082
ssigma <- diag(4)
ssigma[1,2] <- 0.229502120

Interesting observation with network event notification and batching
Hi all
I''m hacking on a netback trying to identify whether TLB flushes causes
heavy performance penalty on Tx path. The hack is quite nasty (you would
not want to know, trust me).
Basically what is doesn''t is, 1) alter network protocol to pass along
mfns instead of grant references, 2) when the backend sees a new mfn,
map it RO and cache it in its own address space.
With this

[newbie] aggregating table() results and simplifying code with loop
Dear all,
I'm looking for primary help at aggregating table() results and at
writing a loop (if useful)
My dataset ( http://goo.gl/gEPKW ) is composed of 23k rows, each one
representing a point in the space of which we know the land cover over
10 years (column y01 to y10).
I need to analyse it with a temporal sliding window of 5 years (y01 to
y05, y02 to y06 and so forth)
For each period

Looking for simpler solution to probabilistic question
Hi
I have two processes which take with a certain probability (p1 and p2) x
number of years to complete (age1 and age2). As soon as thge first
process is completed, the second one begins. I want to calculate the
time it takes for the both processes to be completed.
I have the following script which gives me the answer, butI think there
must be a more elegant way of doing the calculations

how to read a web page and extract an html table?
Hello all,
I want to read a table from a given web page.
If I do something like
> str="http://www...." # this is the web address
> aux1 <- url(str,open="rt")# open connection
> aux2 <- readLines(aux1) # read web page
aux2 contains the html file.
I want to extract the table from the html file.
Is there a function html2R, the opposite of R2html?

legend with mixed boxes and lines (not both)
Hi,
I seem to be unable to get a mixed legend that has lines *or* polygons
(not both). For example:
ppi <- seq(0,2*pi,length.out=21)[-21]
frame()
plot.window(ylim=c(-5,5),xlim=c(-5,5),asp=1)
polygon(cos(ppi)*4+rnorm(20,sd=.2),sin(ppi)*4+rnorm(20,sd=.2),
col="green",border=FALSE)
polygon(cos(ppi)*2+rnorm(20,sd=.1),sin(ppi)*2+rnorm(20,sd=.1),
col="blue",border=FALSE)

odd inconsistency with nfs
I'm having an interesting/odd problem with nfs (I think). We recently
(Monday/Tuesday) upgraded our file server from an ancient redhat 7.3
system to a shiny new centos 6.4 system. We don't see any issues between
the other centos boxes, but things get a bit weird when we start
mounting on the old solaris clients.
The initial symptom was that the 'tab complete' wasn't

reading partial data set
Hi all,
I'm trying to read a data set into R, but the file is messy, so I have to do
it partially. The whole data is in a .txt file, and the values are separated
by a space. So far ok. The problem is that in this file, not all the lines
have the same number of elements, and the reading stops. And I loose the
reading of the previous lines.
ex. of data set:

21 22 23

Depends: R (>= 4.1) for packages that use |> and \(...)
Many thanks to Henrik for remembering the report in Bugzilla and to
Kurt for implementing the change and finding out the true number of
affected packages.

problem with user defined panel function in xyplot
Hi everyone,
?
I am trying to do a horizonplot using my own time series
data. I know that there is a horizonplot function in latticeExtra, but on
closer examination i think that the graph itself is slightly wrong (it displays
some regions as triangles and i think they should be trapezoids, and the red
regions (that are below the baseline) are displayed on top of the blue areas ?

dput/dget when a data frame has 2 rows (PR#9627)
This doesn't seem right; I'm using R version 2.4.1 (2006-12-18) on Mac OS

Thanks. I am already looking handling the 4.2.0 placeholder syntax, but
likely will need to refactor the code I added yesterday.
The "experimental" 4.3.0 extra placeholder feature looks like a lot of
effort: ideally there would be a simpler way. I'll ask on R Core.
My guess would be that the new syntax is particularly
