cron job install/update problems: tcltk can't find display (installing e.g., pbatR)
On Fedora Core Linux 4, I have a cron job that causes R to update all packages and install new ones. Lately, I notice in the log that some packages fail to install. These are ones that assume X is running. For example, the pbatR install requires tcltk to be loaded, and then the install fails because in a cron job, there is no DISPLAY environment. I suppose the same happens if you try to

controlling where *.Rout gets printed. Possible?
OK, my journey to make lab machines automagically install & update all desirable R packages is nearing an end! The only question I have now is this: How can I control where the system prints the *.Rout file that is created automatically when the R batch program runs. In "man R" I don't find any information about it. When the cron job runs "R_installAll.sh" (see

Package Dependency
Lately, I see a dependency problem with R-3.2 systems. install.packages allows dependencies, but they are not installed so the install fails. I see this a lot with students who are able to install packages like ggplot2 but then can't load it because a dependency "stringi" is missing. Those students are generally using Windows, but today I reproduced the same on RedHat Linux with

Project local libraries (reproducible research)
Hi all, I was wondering if any one had scripts that they could share for capturing the current version of R packages used for a project. I'm interested in creating a project local library so that you're safe if someone (e.g. the ggplot2 author) updates a package you're relying on and breaks your code. I could fairly easily hack together, but I was wondering if any one had any neat

first derivative of a time series
Hi, I need to derive a time series that represents the first derivative of an original time series. The function coefDeriv in the cyclones package seemed to be the ticket, but I'm not sure if I am interpreting the output of the function correctly...or even using the function correctly. This is a snipbit of what I've been trying: -------- library(cyclones) ## read in my 1-column of

error on uneven recycling?
Is there some reason why > (1:2)+(1:3) [1] 2 4 4 Warning message: In (1:2) + (1:3) : longer object length is not a multiple of shorter object length can't be made into an error? I realise it was there in S-PLUS, but since it produces a warning there can't be many examples on CRAN or Bioconductor using it, and I can't think of any situation where it would be used deliberately.

Problem in loading all packages all at once
Hi All Please see the Rprofile file which i have modified as follows and after that when I start R then I see that R says to me "TRUE" for all the packages implying that all loaded at once. But when i try to use commands as simple as help("lm"), it doesnt work nor any of the menu "Packages" is not working. Although the regression using lm ( Y ~ X ) is working
