Error installing package sna
Dear R-users,
These days, I have been struggling to install the package sna on my Ubuntu
8.04 laptop. My R version is currently R 2.7.2. And I had no trouble
installing any other packages (including network).
However when I run 'install.packages("sna")', compilation of C codes is ok,
but a syntax error is reported when building help pages and sna does not
want to install.

vertex labels in igraph from adjacency matrix
I am getting some unexpected results from some functions of igraph and
it is possible that I am misinterpreting the vertex numbers. Eg., the
max betweenness measure seems to be from a vertex that is not connected
to a single other vertex. Below if my code snippet:
require(igraph)
my.graph <- graph.adjacency(adjmatrix = my.adj.matrix, mode=c("undirected"))

Calculating Betweenness - Efficiency problem
Hello,
I am calculating 'Betweenness' of a large network using R. Currently, I have the node-node information (City1-City2) in an excel file, present in two columns where column A has City1 and column B has City2 that city1 is connected to. These are the steps that I go through to calculate betweenness of my network.
a) Convert the City1-City2 (text) into Number1-Number2 in the excel

igraph plot - vertex colors
Hi everyone,
I have successfully created and analyzed my network data. I am new to R, and Network Analysis too, but I want to color my vertex based on some of the centrality measures calculated.
Can someone point me in the right direction? Again, I am new to R, but given how powerful R appears to be, I figure this is probably pretty easy to do, I just wish I could figure it out.
Many thanks

Weighted association map
Could somebody program this kind of plot type to R, if none exists,
based on mds or correlation tables or some more suitable method? What
do you think about idea? Does it work? None similar or better exists?

S4 classes in existing packages
R-devel,
I'm interested in looking at some examples of existing R packages that
rely heavily on S4 classes to get a feel for varying styles and
package organization techniques. Could you recommend any packages
that might serve as a good starting point?
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Link prediction in social network with R
Dear R users
I'm a novice user of R and have absolutely no prior knowledge of social network analysis, so apologies if my question is trivial. I've spent alot of time trying to solve this on my own but I really can't so hope someone here can help me out. Cheers!
The dataset:
I'm trying to predict the existance of links (True or False) in a test set using a training set. Both

alternatives to do.call() when namespace is attached but not loaded?
Dear R-devel
I have a function in a package that essentially provides a wrapper for a
group of functions in another Suggested package (it sets appropriate
defaults for the context, transforms output, etc). I've implemented
this by verifying that the package was loaded with
require(sna)
and then
do.call(snaFunName, args = args)
The rDevel check is requesting that I use

about R sna package source code
Is anyone know some thing about sna package source code??
I have a question about sna source code,
I need some functions in R sna package,
so I check the source code.
There is a function called efficiency in sna package, but I didn't find the
any code about "efficiency",
anyone know it?
thank you

How do I call a masked function in a package without a namespace?
Hello,
I work with two packages sna and graph from CRAN resp. Bioconductor. Both
packages have a function called "degree". Therefore one of the functions
is masked by the other and which one gets called depends on the order of
loading. The problem is that both package do not have a namespace,
therefore calling the masked function with "package::degree" does not
work.

RFC: PointerType should derive from Type rather than SequentialType
Hi all,
An oddity that has existed for a long time in the IR is that PointerType
derives from SequentialType. Per subject I propose to make PointerType
derive from Type for a couple of reasons:
- Values of type PointerType are unlike the other SequentialTypes (arrays
and vectors) in that they do not hold values of the element type. By moving
PointerType we can unify certain aspects of how the

Text Outside Lattice Plot
Dear R users
I created the graph at the bottom using xyplot in the lattice package. I
added a title using the main="Title" command in xyplot, however it is
plotted too close to the legend for my liking. To remedy this I increased
the upper margin of the plot using plot(data, position = c(0,0,1,.9)) and
attempted to move "SNA" upwards and to the right. I have tried using a

SNA query
Hi R Users
I am working with the very useful SNA package (v.2.2) in R and have a
query I hope you may be able to help out with:
I have been using gplot commands to plot an SNA graph. Here's the code
and output:
library(sna); library(network); library(RODBC)
setwd("c:\\temp")
x = read.csv(file = "testforr.csv")
Total.Sold=c(1,3,6,1,3,6,1,3,6,6,9)

how to convert a table to adjacency matrix used in social network analysis?
Hi Guys,
Do you any one know how to convert a long format table to an adjacency
matrix used in sna? The long table looks like
p1 p2 counts
a b 100
a c 200
a d 100
b c 80
b d 90
b e 100
c d 100
c e 40
d e 60
and I want to convert it to an adjacency matrix which can be used in sna?
Any methods will be appreciated!
btw, besides sna package, is there any better package can be used in social

Hierarchical Diagram of Networks in sna or otherwise?
I've been using sna to work with some networks, and am trying to visualize
them easily. My networks are hierarchical (food webs). All of the layout
engines I've tried with gplot don't seem to plot hierarchical networks, as
one would using dot from graphviz. While I could do all of this by
outputting to dotfiles and running it through graphviz, the graphics I get
from R are much

Installing sna package on MacOSX
Hi folks,
I am trying to install the sna package on a MacOS X 10.3.9 and
10.3.4. In neither case I have been able to get the R CMD Install
command to succeed from the Terminal window.
With 10.3.9 I get an error with the Make command, and with 10.3.4 I
get an error on the Description(???)
Has anyone out there been able to install it successfully on a Mac?
Thanks
