pdf device bounding box?
dear R wizards: I have a very simple suggestion/question. Would it
be easy to change the pdf device so that it adds a BoundingBox around
its output? (Under R 2.4.1, this seems not to be the case, because
epstopdf under linux complains. Fortunately, it still works
correctly.)
This is not a big deal, but it would be nice if R did so, if only to
help some pdf programs that are less adept at

bash help please
I'd like to make MikTeX the default TeX package in 2.2.0, but we still
need to let people use other packages. The problem is that MikTeX wants
a command line option --include-directory $R_HOME/share/texmf, while
other packages specify includes via environment variables, and barf when
they see the unexpected option.
The choice should be controlled by the user's settings in the MkRules

Vignette problem
I'm having a problem rebuilding a package, new to me in R 2.15.0
(Linux) It hits all that contain the line
\usepackage[pdftex]{graphics}
and leads to the following when running R CMD check on the directory.
(I do this often; a final run on the tar.gz file will happen before
submission.)
Since I float and resize my figures, removing the line is fatal in other
ways.

latex warning
Dear all,
I am getting an R CMD check warning about the PDF manual. I am having a
hard time finding out what is wrong, here is the log of the Rd2pdf call.
The full check (and other) log is at

interested, and the package itself is here:

pictex driver and bargraph shading
I'm trying to use the pictex driver for bargraphs, and the shading isn't
showing up. Is there any way to get some sort of shading in the plots? A
hatch or stipple would be fine, too; just some way to differentiate the
bars.
The postscript driver won't do, since I'm trying to embed this in a LaTeX
document which I'll use pdflatex on and \includegraphics for pdftex doesn't

PDF Compression
Hi,
I am generating a large number of graphs with pdf() and
incorporating them in pdf document using pdflatex.
According to the pdf() help:
'pdf' writes uncompressed PDF. It is primarily intended for
producing PDF graphics for inclusion in other documents, and
PDF-includers such as 'pdftex' are usually able to handle
.compression.
But pdflatex incorporates the R

Sweave Makefile issue
Dear R-specialists,
I am trying to create a Makefile that will first convert all my .Rnw
files into .tex files and then, that will run the LaTeX compiler to
produce a pdf document. This issue has been discussed before. Hence,
I've basically adapted a Makefile I found at
http://n4.nabble.com/R-Sweave-R-and-complex-latex-projects-td810020.html#a810023
to make it compatible with a Windows

running 'make' failed during vignette creation ('R CMD build') on Windows
Hi,
This is a follow-up to the problem reported here:
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2010-September/058460.html
After I updated R-2.12 to 2010-09-13 r52905 on the Bioc build system,
some of the packages that have a Makefile in <pkg>/inst/doc still
don't build on Windows. For example, 'R\bin\R.exe CMD build adSplit'
gives:

minor oddity in pdf() help page
The following paragraph from ?pdf struck me as a bit odd:

PDF-includers such as 'pdftex' are usually able to handle
compression.
Should that be "...and PDF-includers such as 'pdftex' are usually _un_able to

installation: while running make, unable to run pdflatex on 'NEWS.tex'
A kind member of R-core suggested this is due to a misconfiguration on
my system, and to post it to the mailing list for troubleshooting.
When trying to build R version 4.3.3, in at least two places during the
process it gives LaTeX errors of the form:

you should 'make docs' now ...

Sweave and kile
Dear R-users,
I want to give a try to Sweave and Latex but I am having some problems
compiling my .Rnw files within Kile. I have followed the recommendations
given in http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e5/help/08/10/4277, but they do
not seem to address my particular problem.
I am using R 2.11.0 and Kile v 2.0.83 on an OpenSUSE11.2 installation (KDE
4.3 environment). According to the log (see

Sweave
I'm trying to (re)learn Sweave and run into some problems. I use now ubuntu

Slowly getting upto speed on ess. I have a complete (hopefully) .Rnw file,
but the resulting .tex
will not compile. The file does not contain anything exotic, but it produces
pdf figures, and that
is where the problems come:

Windows problem related to using shortPathName for Sweave style file
In the process of updating R to R 2.7 alpha or R 2.7 beta for the
BioConductor 2.2 builds on Windows, I have hit a snag because the BioC
build system has long path names (e.g. D:\biocbld\bbs-2.2-bioc\R) and
these path names are not resolving properly by MiKTeX 2.7 during
vignette construction. Take, for example, the attached vignette from
Biobase, Bioconductor.Rnw. I have built R from source

R graphs in LaTeX documents?
I have tried to find a neat way to include graphs from R in LaTeX documents,
but have not succeeded (I work with a WinEdt/MikTeX combination). The two
roads I have stumbled along so far are the following:
*Generate postscript files and convert them into EPS files by means of
GhostScript or other not so straightforward tools.
*Generate pictex files and include these.
None of these solutions have

problem to install R on linux
Dear members,
this can sound trivial for some people but I don't have experience on
compilation.
I'm trying to install R-2.2.1 on a laptop running Mandriva 2006. I
already installed many of the recommended packages/libraries but it
seems that something is still missing. The problem is that I cannot
identify... Could somebody give me some advise?
