inconsistency between anova() and summary() of glmmPQL
Dear All,
Could anyone explain me how it is possible that one factor
in a glmmPQL model is non-significant according to the
anova() function, whereas it turns out to be significant
(or at least some of its levels differ significantly from
some other levels) according to the summary() function.
What is the truth, which results shall I believe? And, is
there any other way of testing for the

FW: Point and Print
As an updatee to my last post, things are still not working! The drivers
did get added but I'm still not sure whether I achieved this via the Add
Printer Wizard or despite error messages the rpcclient adddriver did
work. I did wonder if the lsa_io_sec_qos: length c does not match size 8
error is because the printer name is too long, especially as when I
tried a shorter name such as HP2300 -

Point and Print
I recently posted regarding problems configuring Samba. These have all
been fixed but I am now struggling with the point and print facility. I
have attempted to upload the drivers from Windows XP workstations but
this seems to do nothing. So plan B was to manually copy the files to
the appropriate print$ share folder, so far so good. The problem I now
have is that the rpcclient utility simply

FW: Samba config
Further to my last post I decided to BUY a copy Suse 9.1 including Samba
3. Not only was Suse very easy to setup I managed to get Samba up and
running without too many problems and can now print from Windows clients
via Samba. My only remaining challenge is setting up point and print.
Thanks for the responses.

FW: Re: Access Denied touching shared CUPS printer
After much trying I have finally got this to work and I'm slightly
embarassed to admit that the old RTFM tripped me up. In the Samba 3
HOWTO - the official one, rather than the draft I was originally using -
it states quite clearly that to get point 'n' print to work "use client
driver" needs to be set to "no" in the [global] section of smb.conf, and

Samba config
Hi I?m having difficulty configuring Samba running on FreeBSD. Samba
version is 2.2.8a. The scenario is that we have an NT4 domain and I am
looking to migrate the printers onto Samba. All of the printers are
connected via print servers, mainly HP JetDirect. As far as security is
concerned I am happy for guest/anonymous logon as the server will only
be used for printing but I have set security to

Thanks Sean!
Your reply was very helpful. I already got almost what I wanted. I have some
NA values but I will look if I can find them through bibliography or an
external tool.

[Resend the stuff below since initial one has been blocked from R-help.]
I have moved the "old" Matrix_0.98-7.zip to the main repository for the
meantime.

gam
Dear R users,
I'm new to both R and to this list and would like to get
advice on how to build generalized additive models in R.
Based on the description of gam, which I found on the R
website, I specified the following model:
model1<-gam(ST~s(MOWST1),family=binomial,data=strikes.S),
in which ST is my binary response variable and MOWST1 is a
categorical independent variable.
I get the

1. You don't appear to be including anything that is within the colon
dirs so they are being left out by --prune-empty-dirs.
2. Includes only override excludes that follow them. Since your debug
excludes are exceptions to the openSUSE_Leap_42.2/*** include they must
be before it not after it.

reading tables into R. .
Hi,
The file I am reading is a text file, whose contents are a matrix that has 15 rows and 58 columns. The first row has column names, and the first column has row names, so the format is correct as far as using read.table is concerned. The other values in the table are all float values (numeric). So when I read in the file using data1 <- read.table("HAL001_HAL0015_Signals.txt"), it

Thank you for your answer, Kevin.
2. OK, I understand.
1. I checked colon dirs, and indeed they don't have openSUSE_Leap_42.2
dirs directly. But they have different subdirs which have
openSUSE_Leap_42.2 dirs. What would be the correct filter set
to mirror all openSUSE_Leap_42.2 dirs at any level if I don't want
to include all dirs at the root level? At the roor level tehre are

write.table linebreaks
Hello R users,
I am a newby using R 2.5.0 on a Apple Power Book G4 with Mac OS X
10.4.10.
when I use the write.table function, I always get the output in Unix
linebreaks that I have to change to McIntosh linebreaks to be able to
Import the data in Excel 2004 for Mac.
Is there a possibility to do this automatically in R and respectively
in the write.table function?
Thanks in advance.

Dear R-helpers,
We marked 6000 leaves from 5 SPECIES - 10 individuals/species - in two
different TREATMENTs: a control and a dry-plot from which 50% of
incoming precipitation was excluded. We followed those leaves for 42
months and noted the presence and absence at each visit. I then carried
out a Cox Harzard model to see differences in leaf mortality between
parcels and among species over time:

Dear Kevin:
~ 1 year ago your answer helped me to solve my problem.
This time I would like to do a similar thing but little bit modified.
I read again carefully INCLUDE/EXCLUDE PATTERN RULES section of rsync

I understand I have to add include patterns first and exclude patterns
second. But it is not clear if I have to add all the include
