.Rprofile, date tagging history, loading packages
Dear R-Helpers,
I'm fiddling with my .Rprofile in Windows XP & R 2.7.0 Beta. I prefer to
manually save my workspace but automatically save my command history via
the .Rprofile. That is working fine once I found that "utils::" was
required before the loadhistory & savehistory functions. What I would
like to do is add a separator line with a date between the histories of

Loadhistory problems
History files saved using nFile Save History do not open when using File Load History. I notice that when they are saved they do not seem to have a file extension and there is no option to chose an extension. Is this a problem. Other than this it seems so simple that I can't see what the problem is. I've tried using loadhistory and savehistory with the same problems. The syntax guide

View saved workspace commands
R version : 2.15.2
Windows: 7 32-bit
Hello,
I was trying to load a saved workspace image from the working directory.
I issued the command load('image_name') in R console. It did not throw any
error, but then it returned the prompt. I want to view the commands (or
history) I typed there, how do I do that? Pressing up arrow does not bring
any of this workspace command, it rather brings

autoloading .RData files / .Rhistory file
NOTE: WinXP, R2.2.0
All,
a while back I posted a question about using relative filereferencing.
The responses have allowed me to successfully set up the following
directory structure:
...\data\raw
...\data\derived
...\prog
...\lst
...\log
In the \prog directory I have put an RGui.exe shortcut and "pointed it"
at \prog as the "Start In" location. In the same

can one evaluate an expression in a comment? (or insert resultsinto history?)
But that doesn't put the result into the history buffer, to be written
to a file only later when I savehistory(filename).
Bert Gunter also suggested ?capture.output and ?textConnection,
but I cannot see how to get text into the history buffer as comments,
but with evaluated expressions (values).
I know how to use paste, sink, write, etc. but nothing that I can see
inserts into the history

Because I work in different directories, but always want to save my

to this:

Saving workspace image
Hi folks,
On quitting R with q(), is it possible to save the workspace
to a directory other than the one R was started from?
(I sometimes have a project "master" directory with the major
R code and data in that directory, but divisions of the project
having their specific stuff in sub-directories. So if I quit while
running a sub-project, I'd like to save the workspace back into

Saving a workspace with "extras"?
Hi everyone,
I hope there's a simple way to achieve what I want, but I haven't
found the way.
I do microarray analysis using R and a number of packages as well as
some functions created my myself.
When I save the workspace, it saves all the data structures, that's
great... But when I click (I'm on Windows XP, if it matters) on teh
resulting .RData file, I have to reload

saving variables created by functions in the workspace
Hello ,
just a simple question from a beginner:
I write the function:
plotsinx <- function()
{
x<-seq(0,2*pi,0.01)
sinx<-sin(x)
plot(sinx)
}
I recall it:
plotsinx()
and the plot works properly.
but then in the workspace if I want to look at the
values of sinx the following error is displayed:
Error: Object "sinx" not found.
How to save the variables created by the function on

Prevent saving the workspace while running a script in batch mode
Dear R-user,
I'm running a certain R script in DOS batch mode. Is there a way to prevent
R from saving the workspace once this script is finished? I'm asking this
because the resulting .RData file has the size of >70MB. I don't need this
file since my script already writes the required output and this makes the
whole process very slow (>15 minutes each time)
FYI, my script:

loadhistory() in .Rprofile ?
dear wizards: my .Rprofile has just one command for testing,
loadhistory("~/.Rhistory")
but this gives me an error on R startup:
Error: couldn't find function "loadhistory"
Invoking loadhistory() as the first interactive command works fine;
incidentally, I believe loadhistory() in the .Rprofile worked in
earlier or other platform R releases, too.
Is the .Rprofile

How to list R object properties & save workspace?
Hi,
I am new to R and have a couple of questions.
I know how to list all objects (with ls()), but how to list all
properties of them?
For instance, I found function object.size(), but I would also like to
know whether one object is a dataset or just one vector (variable) or
even only one value, etc...
And another question - how to save workspace to a custom location while
running R? Is there

removing message: [Previously saved workspace restored]
Dear All,
I saved by mistake the environment I was working in after typing q(),
and now I get the annoying message:
[Previously saved workspace restored]
I have already deleted all the objects in the environment, saving it as
an empty environment, so it's just a matter of nitpicking I suppose. The
message does not appear if I start R from any other place in the
directory tree.
