R-2.7.0 make check failure
Hello,
I am fairly new to using R and am trying to install it on my Linux
machine, running Scientific Linux. I get through running 'configure'
and 'make' OK, but when I run 'make check', I get the following error:
make check

Converting Between Character and Numeric Objects
Hello,
I'm trying to convert a vector of string objects to a numeric object by
initializing the variables with values. I use the function below to scan
through a matrix and create mass action flux relationships:
makeMassActionFluxes = function(sMatrix) {
#Allocate a matrix with identical dimensions as the inputted stoichiometric
matrix
temp = matrix(nrow = dim(sMatrix)[1], ncol =

Statistically detecting thresholds...
Rers:
I have some ecological data (stream velocity vs. % cover of submerged
weeds) that shows strong evidence of a thresholding step-function, e.g.
below some velocity, % cover ranges from 0% to 100% (with no apparent
relationship to velocity within this range of velocities), but above a
certain "threshold" velocity, the % cover does not appear to exceed,
say, 10%. There are good

double boostrap with clusterApplyLB
Dear R-Users,
we are using a linux-cluster with RMPI and the snow package.
We would like to do a double boostrap.
We have a general function that implements the first boostrap (the outer) and
we are wondering if we can include another bootstrap (the inner) in the
same general function including another clusterApplyLB.
For example:
general function = function(...) {

validate.lrm - confidence interval for boostrap-corrected AUC ?
Hi
Does anyone know whether the rms package provides a confidence interval for
the bootstrap-corrected Dxy or c-index?
I have fitted a logistic model, and would like to obtain the 95% confidence
interval of the bootstrap-corrected area under the ROC curve estimate.
Thanks.

bootstrapping error message "Error in t.star[r, ] <- statistic(data, i[r, ], ...) : number of items to replace is not a multiple of replacement length"
Hi,
I am trying to run some bootstraps with the boot package. When I run
it with 400 replicates it does it ok, but then I need to run the same
analysis but with 89, 86, 102 and 106 samples (for four different
environments), and then is when I get the error message:
> mybootstrap <- boot(Datos, mystat, 2000)

rpmstrap/rpmbootstrap to boostrap CentOS 5
Hi,
Is there any working script, similar to deboostrap, for CentOS 5?
I have found rpmstrap [1] at RPMforge.. but only works for CentOS-4, and
appears that's out of date.
thanks!

boostrap an nls regression
Hello there
I have the following model based on the hollings disc equation for the type
II functional response for 2 data sets:
nls(eaten~(a*suppl)/(1+a*h*suppl)
where eaten is the number of prey eaten by a predator and suppl is the
number of prey initially supplied to the same predator.
I have parameter estimates of 'a' and 'h' for the two populations studied
and would like

Boostrap p-value in regression [indirectly related to R]
Hello All,
Despite my preference for reporting confidence intervals, I need to
obtain a p-value for a hypothesis test in the context of regression
using bootstrapping. I have read John Fox's chapter on bootstrapping
regression models and have consulted Efron & Tibshirani's "An
Introduction to the Bootstrap" but I just wanted to ask the experts here
for some feedback to make

How to create unique factor from two factors? + Boostrap Q
This might be easy but I'm very new to R and this question doesn't seem to
have any nice keywords that bring up relevant search results when I search
the CRAN search engine. Therefore, I'll plead (as I have in the recent
past) Newbie status.
I have a data frame with two factors (Factor 1 and 2) which together specify
another unique level. I want to create a third factor in the

Creating a column based on data in another column
hello all,
I have a data frame and I want to create a column which assigns a letter
based upon the value in another column. The data column has velocities
ranging from 0 to 1000. So for example, for velocities between 0 and 300
I'd like to assign the letter "A" in the new column, for 300-600, "B" and so
on and so forth. How would I do this?
Thank you very much!

Polycom MyStat
Has anyone ever gotten the Polycom Status feature, accessible via the 'MyStat' soft-key to work? When you change the status in this way, the phone does not send any communication to Asterisk, and it seems to have no effect in incoming calls. So... what's it for?

For loops in R
Hello.
I've just started using R and am trying to figure out if the two codes
snippets below have the same output
gBest<-floor(runif(popsize,min=1,max=top))
velocity[i,j]<<-.4* velocity[i,j] + 1 * runif(1) * (pbestsVar[i,j] -
popVar[i,j]) + 1 * runif(1) * (archiveVar[gBest,j] - popVar[i,j])
and
for (i in 1:popsize) {
for (j in 1:maxvar) {

Graph Order in xyplot
I have constructed a Trellis style xyplot.
lengthf <- factor(length)
xyplot(SLI$velocity ~ SLI$width | SLI$lengthf, layout = c(2,7), xlab =
"Width (cm)", ylab = "Velocity (m/s^2)", col = "black")
This produces a lovely little plot. However, the grouping factor(lengthf)
isn't in the right order. My values range from 2-28 and the 2 graph on the

coxme() random effect syntax
Hello:
I would like to run a Cox proportional hazards regression on crayfish
dislodgement at different water velocities by crayfish size class and
substrate (rock) type. Additionally, there is a covariate variable, rock
movement that may be influencing crayfish dislodgment. So...
I have crayfish size class (CFSZCL) and substrate type (SUBSZ) as fixed
factors influencing the dislodgment of

function for filtering and deleting vector entries
Dear helpers
I have two data sets saved as vectors (temperature and velocity). Now I need
to "take out" a span of temperature and its corresponding velocity in the
other vector. How can I achieve that?
I tried to write a function, which takes a vector entry and then decides
wether to delete the temperature entry or not and simultaneously doing so
with same entry in the velocity

Std. errors of intercept and slope
Dear all,
I have the following output generated by linear regression. Since there is
only one regression intercept and one slope for one set of data, what is the
meaning of std. error for intercept and that of slope? Thanks in advance.

RODBC missing values in integer columns
Hello,
We are having some strange issues with RODBC related to integer columns.
Whenever we do a sql query the data in a integer column is 150 actual data
points then 150 0's then 150 actual data points then 150 0's. However, our
database actually has numbers where the 0's are filled in. Furthermore,
other datatypes do not have this problem: double and varchar are correct and
do not
