Managing Data
Hello everyone, Can someone point me to some resources on managing data in R and/or S-plus? I have started using R more and more often in my work and I really like it. But, managing data is very different in R and S-Plus than in other packages that I am accustomed to. I know that it is an option to use different workspaces for different projects or to store all objects as source and read them

Samba + BIND9 DLZ. DNS dosen't resolve FQDN, only short hostname
RPvs> The wiki (and Microsoft) is very vocal that you shouldn't use the RPvs> '.local' TLD Not to start a flame war - but Microsoft is the *source* of using .local in Active directory domains - from past practices. And, even now, they are somewhat equivocal in saying it shouldn't be used. [No source given, but it's something I've looked at in the last year and there

Managing Data [Summary]
A while ago I asked about data management approaches in R. I was asked by several people to post a summary of the responses and alas I am just getting around to doing it. I received several comments, both on and off list. Below is a compilation of these responses. Hope this is as helpful to others as it was to me. Best, Brett 1. Frank Harrell recommended a section, "Operating in

Admonitions! with Python-Markdown 2.3 release.
Last night I released version 2.3 of Python Markdown (see the release notes [1] for all the details). In addition to various other improvements, a new **experimental** extension was included that added a syntax for generating rST-style admonitions [2]. For a summary of the syntax, see the documentation [3]. A broader sample of the output can be seen on this page [4]. The source text can be found

Using S-Plus Documentation with R
Insightful has some nice docs available for download that are s-plus command line guides to statistics. There are two versions, one for S-plus 2000 and one for S-plus 6.0. With regard to syntax, is one a closer match to R than the other? Are they based on the same S engines? Does that matter? I know there will be differences in any case, I am just trying to decide wich version I want to

RFC: boilerplate text in driver man pages
All, With AsciiDoc, we can make use of some macros to cut down on some of the repetition in the driver man pages. I don't want to go overboard on this, though - I know that drivers aren't meant to be invoked directly by users anyway. I propose that we put all of the gory details into the nutupsdrv(8) man page (mostly there anyway), and just add a few basic options to the

2.6.3: write error goes undetected
Hello, [ I've just reported this as https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2116 ] ------------------ rsync-2.6.3 can fail to report a write error. The Origins of R AND CALCULUS
An amusing afterthought : What is a rival software (ahem!) was planting this, hoping for a divide between S and R communities.or at the very minimum hoping for some amusement. an assumption or even a pretense of stealing credit is one of the easiest ways of sparking intellectual discord Most users of softwares don't really care about who gets credit ( Who wrote Windows Vista ,or Mac OS or

I guess it's kind of a natural response on my part, working professionally in software. T-Shooting step one: Get current and see if the problem persists. If it does, then step rwo: debug. 2+ years is forever in software, noting that 2.6.3 was mid 2012 . . . - Tim On October 17, 2014 9:38:15 PM CDT, Charles Lepple <clepple at gmail.com> wrote: >On Oct 17, 2014, at 8:31 PM, Tim Dawson
