RScaLAPACK package with OpenMPI
Hi all, I'm using RScalapack library for parallelizing some heavy matrix operations required by MCMC methods for spatio-temporal models. The package reference manuals (dated 2005) states that the library needs LamMPI to work but we have a Linux Cluster with OpenMPI. We have found (http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewvc/devel/R-RScaLAPACK/) a patch for OpenMPI but we are wondering if in the

Viable Approach to Parallel R?
All, We are researching approaches to parallel R with the end goal of running R in a distributed manner on a Linux cluster. We expect of course to do some work decomposing our problems to be task-parallel or data-parallel, but wouldn't mind getting an initial boost working with "embarrassingly parallel" code sections and one of the approaches below. Incidentally our environment

Help on installing RScaLAPACK on Ubuntu
I try to install RScaLAPACK on Ubuntu 6.10 and LAM 7.0.x Does anybody know a useful link top some how-to site about RScaLAPACK. Now I manage to get the package compiling, but the linker shows me lots of unsolved references: sudo R CMD INSTALL RScaLAPACK_0.5.1.tar.gz --configure-args="--with-mpi=/usr/lib/lam": * Installing *source* package 'RScaLAPACK' ... configure:

Parallel R for dummies (on hpc)
Hi, I had access to an hpc cluster, and wanted to parallelize some of my R code. I looked at the snow, nws, rscalapack documentation but was unable to make out how I should submit my job to the hpc, and how I should code a simple program. For example, if I had 10 matrices, and 10 processor how should I write the R (and the hpc submit code) so that I run the calculations (e.g. rowsums) for each

controlling where *.Rout gets printed. Possible?
OK, my journey to make lab machines automagically install & update all desirable R packages is nearing an end! The only question I have now is this: How can I control where the system prints the *.Rout file that is created automatically when the R batch program runs. In "man R" I don't find any information about it. When the cron job runs "R_installAll.sh" (see

Giving up AD Default Site
Hello, I am a newbee on this list and hopefully someone can give me an advice regarding my question. I have a small Samba AD configured with 2 DCs in each of two Sites: the Default Site and a Branch Office. Now the company wants shutdown the Default Site and move everything into the Branch Office. How should I handle this? Just transferring the FSMO roles from the primary DC on the Default Site

Selective 'expansion' of arguments in a match.call() result ...
Is it possible to write a support function to automatize selective argument expansion (based on argument value type) as in the following example, in order to write terse code even when there are many arguments? Forcing evaluation of all arguments is not a problem ... ______________________________________________Thanks a lot!__________R_ # When called with document = 1, we have the

predict.lrm vs. predict.glm (with newdata)
Hi all I have run into a case where I don't understand why predict.lrm and predict.glm don't yield the same results. My data look like this: set.seed(1) library(Design); ilogit <- function(x) { 1/(1+exp(-x)) } ORDER <- factor(sample(c("mc-sc", "sc-mc"), 403, TRUE)) CONJ <- factor(sample(c("als", "bevor", "nachdem",

Erlang-style message-passing in R: Rmpi, Snow, NetWorkSpaces, etc.
I see about 7 different R packages for multi-process parallel programming. Which do you think is the best, most complete, and most robust to pick for general purpose Erlang-style message-passing programming in R, and why? First here's my use case, and then my analysis so far. I often have code whose basic organization looks something like this: 1. Fetch step: For each date, gather up or

FreeBSD5.1, Samba 3 + Win2k
Hi! I am really lost and clueless. I reinstalled my Workstation(Win2k) and my Server(FreeBSD5.1). Bevor that Samba was working alright. I installed Samba 3 on the FreeBSD box. But now in state of security = user I just can't log in. The BSD box is visible in the Workgroup. All I changed is that I have a different user on my workstation now. Bevor on both the server and the workstation were

I'm confused now :-) Arnand said the "database" option is being removed. Does this mean the database will always be created, or NEVER be created? I always wondered why

R on Beowulf cluster?
Dear R-help, Has anyone tried running R on a Beowulf-type cluster? I can get R to run in batch (using R CMD BATCH) on a cluster, but am wondering if it is possible to get an interactive R session on a compute node. Right now, if I run: beorun --nolocal R I just get the R start-up message and back to the shell prompt. If I try bpsh 0 R I can get R started (but the R prompt does not

samba-tool and --kerberos
Hi all, I recently tried to use --kerberos switch in addition to some samba-tool command (mainly samba-tool user create) without any success. The man page of samba-tool is quiet shy on that subject: -k KERBEROS|--kerberos=KERBEROS Use Kerberos Looking into samba-tool python script, in fact into /usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/samba/netcmd/user.py, I can't find any

samba-tool and --kerberos
Hi Stefan, Thank you a lot for that, it helped me much. To be a bit more precise, thanks again to your example, to authenticate samba-tool command using --kerberos: syntax is "-k yes" or "--kerberos=yes" or "--kerberos yes" AND -U username must not be present. "-k=yes" is not working. 2015-10-19 11:59 GMT+02:00 Stefan Kania <stefan at

Cannot install/run very important application
Hello everybody! I've got a big problem: In my small business I use a Home-banking software which I got from my bank. Using it for many years now, it became very very important for me. Needless to say, it's a Windows software. Up to now, it was a Win 3.1 software which ran inside the Windows-Box of my ancient OS/2-PC. (The only reason why I still have this PC runnig OS/2). This summer I
