Impaired boxplot functionality - mean instead of median
Hello to all users and wizards. I am regulary using 'boxplot' function or its analogue - 'bwplot' from the 'lattice' library. But they are, as far as I understand, totally flawed in functionality: they miss ability to select what they would draw 'in the middle' - median, mean. What the box means - standard error, 90% or something else. What the whiskers mean -

Installing splancs_2.01-9 on Red Hat Linux 7.3
Hi all, I'm trying to install the splancs contributed package on a Redhat 7.3 system with R 1.5.1 installed. I've installed the readline41-4.1-10 RPM which Redhat requires for R and it works great, thanks very much. However, when I attempt to R CMD INSTALL splancs_2.01-9.tar.gz as root, I get the following error message during the install: [snip] g77 -fPIC -O2 -m486

Dear forum, I would like to use the kernel2d or spkernel2d in the Splancs-package, but it does not recognize my polygon data. "Error in kernel2d(as.points(ptsbin), polygonprov, h0 = 2, nx = 100, : " is the error message. Invalid poly argument The data are defined as follows: polgonprov<-list(x=polyprov$X, y=polyprov$Y) with X and Y coordinates in the Lambert1972

Macromedia FreeHand MX on Wine, doesn't create new document
Hello. I have installed Macromedia FreeHand MX under Wine 1.1.1 on Arch Linux. It installs OK, but I can't create a new document. When I go on File => New it gives an error ("Could not complete your request because an error occurred") and then Wine dies with a segmentation fault. Final words from Wine before dying: [22:39:44] [renan at sanctuary:~/.wine/drive_c/Arquivos de

R-help Digest, Vol 36, Issue 21
Hello, dear R users. I've already sent a question here, but I'm not sure that it had been read. I need to visualize classification of my numerical data based on 2-3 factors. As I suppose, the best way is a tree. With an orbitrary function at the ends (leaves), or at least with means of my data at the ends. What is the way to do it? As I found, ctree offers binary classification, but

errors when installing packages (ubuntu)
Hi List, I'm having problems installing certain packages. When I try to install fields, I get the output below. I have highlighted the what I perceive as the first error (spam seems to be a dependency of fields). Can I assume this is causing dependency problems for fields, which fails to install at the end, or is there a deeper problem? I run Ubuntu Karmic Koala on R 2.9.2. 2>

selecting clusters of points
All: Are there any functions out there for selecting all the points in a region of a plot. I envision something like the identify() function except one could circle a cloud of points (and perhaps a vector would be returned of the same length as the points plotted indicating logical membership in the circled cloud). Perhaps someone has done something with the locator() function that would

Two factors -> nurical data dependency analyzing
Hello, dear R users. What is the easiest and the most visualli understandable way to analize dependency of numerical variable on two factors? Is the boxplot(y~f1+f2) the good way? It seems that this formula does not work. -- Evgeniy

Macromedia Dreamweaver MX
Hi, I hope this is the correct mailing list to send to. Basically I have just put in a full Linux computer suite in the school I work at. The problem is they need the Macromedia Suite for their 6th form students. As I couldn't get MX2004 to work at all I have 'downgraded' to MX. Fireworks, Freehand and Flash MX all work perfectly! But... Dreamweaver does not. What happens is I run

Followup: copy-paste graphics from R to Word on Mac OS X
After trying numerous options, I'm just about at my wits end. The most frequent suggestion was to export to a postscript or PDF file and import that into Word. However, no matter what I did or how I did it, the results were extraordinarily ugly and somewhat time-consuming. What I've tried so far: 1. Copy and paste from the R graphics output window into Word (in Mac OS X), this is

Vorbis in Macromedia Flash (was Icecast in...)
Hi Jack, It's a good idea. I am going to email macromedia to ask support for ogg in Flash. Anyway, it is impossible it would be available before end of 2004 because the brand new Flash 2004 was just released. Calendar date picker for use with rails.
Howdy folks, As I was putting together a rough form for a rails app, I got to thinking how much smoother (in my siytuation) a little calendar widget would be than the default date picker selects. Does anyone know if such a thing exists ? I suspect it would have to be somewhat designed with rails in mind to populate the right kind of post params for convenient use at the controller end.

Re: unix R CMD check problem
Doh! turns out I was using a newer feature of S-PLUS that is not supported in R, or at least was generating the parse error. replace all a = b with a <- b (except in arguments, naturally ...) porting splancs library to R
I am trying to port the splancs library for S++ version 4.0 to R. I have modified the original FORTRAN to use dllwrap/dlltool (e.g. removed common blocks). I have been able to generate dll's (splancs.dll) using dllwrap/dlltool and Ming32 g77 with a -mdll switch. As of yet I have not been able to generate a dll that can be loaded by R. Does anyone out there have any suggestions. An example
