Two factors -> nurical data dependency analyzing
Hello, dear R users.
What is the easiest and the most visualli understandable way to analize
dependency of numerical variable on two factors?
Is the
boxplot(y~f1+f2) the good way? It seems that this formula does not work.

R-help Digest, Vol 36, Issue 21
Hello, dear R users.
I've already sent a question here, but I'm not sure that it had been read.
I need to visualize classification of my numerical data based on 2-3
factors. As I suppose, the best way is a tree.
With an orbitrary function at the ends (leaves), or at least with means
of my data at the ends.
What is the way to do it? As I found, ctree offers binary
classification, but

Boxplot 5% and 95% quantile instead of 25% and 75%
Hi,
I'm new to the whole R-thing as a replacement for Matlab, not disappointed sofar ;)
I found out how to make nice looking boxplots, but i also would like the make a boxplot with 5% and 95% instead of the standard 25 and 75% quantiles.
My csv input looks something like:

Peelhorst01 1 14-Jan-94 23.07 1
Peelhorst01 1 28-Jan-94 23.68 1

Mass 'identify' on 2d-plot
Hello, dear R-users.
I have 2-d dotplot with two variables: x, y. Dots on this dotplot are
grouped in human-recogniseable areas. These areas are not round-shaped
nor oval-shaped. They are free-form, but still recogniseable by an operator.
What is ability in R to graphically (per mouse) define some area and to
select all the cases felt in it?
'identify' is OK for 5-10 cases, but what

A two-part question about box-percentile plots, bpplot(): (1) yaxt="n" doesn't seem to work (2) how to display mean values
Dear List,
I have a two-part question related to bpplot(), a box-percentile plot
function in the Hmisc package.
Take the example given in the Help for bpplot(), for instance.
(1) How does one set but not draw the y-axis? What I did was,
bpplot(... , yaxt="n"), but that apparently does not work (though it
works for boxplot()).
(2) How does one display the mean value of each variable

Boxplots using percentiles?
The standard R boxplot appears to use quartiles to determine the height of
the rectangles and a range parameter - RNG - (default=1.5 I think) that
determines the length of the whiskers as <= RNG x Interquartile Range. Is
it possible to instead define the range as extending to the 95th percentile?
If so, how would this be done?
nb, I'm plotting multiple boxplots on a single chart so a

bonjour,

adding mean to boxplot
I am a new and unexperienced user of R and got so far as to know how to produce
boxplots. I have no experience of messing with function code, so presently I do
not know how to create a boxplot with group means instead of group medians. If
somebody could help me either replace the median with the mean or superimpose
the mean onto the existing boxplot, it would be appreciated.

Custom Plot - means, SD & 5th-95th% (Plotmeans or Boxplot)?
Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated:
I need to produce a custom plot i haven't come across in R. Basically, I
want to show means, 1st standard deviation and 5th and 95th percentiles
visually, using something resembling a boxplot. Is it possible to completely
customize a boxplot so that it shows means as the bar (instead of, not as
well as medians), standard deviations at

introducing jitter in overlapping graphs using ggplots (plotmeans). Also sciplot.
Hi,
I want to plot means with standard deviations of Total Nitrogen (TN) across
4 stations (S1-S4) and over 3 years (2007-2009). I want this plot in one
panel.
I do not want medians (bwplot, boxplot).
I have tried a few different packages and it seems that ggplots with
plotmeans was the fastest (I am not extremely skilled in writing my own
scripts). Unfortunately, there is no grouping

how to customize boxplot
Dear List,
I'd like to make boxplots of a large number of observations (+/-
20.000), which are distributed log-normal and right skewed. The
problem is that with standard boxplots a too large number of
observations are displayed as outliers. I also tried to display the
log of the observations, but even then there are to may outliers to my
taste. So I'd like to change the standard IQR box

boxplot statistics
I have read and reread the boxplot and the boxplot stats page, and I
still cannot understand how and what boxplot shows. I realize that
this might be due to me not knowing enough statistics, but anyway...
First, how does boxplot determine the size of the box? And is the line
inside the box the mean or the median (or something completely
different?) And how does it determine how long out the

panel.bpplot
Hi everybody,
I am a newbie in R. I would like to use the panel.bpplot function on my data
set but I have some problems. Can this function work on matrix? My data set
have some NaN and when I run panel.bpplot function it returns error due to
the presence of NaN. How Can I solve this?
Thank you so much for your help

boxplot with diamond shape
Hi,
I haven't found in R a possibility to draw a boxplot with a diamond
shape (means and CI).
Does anyone know how to plot it ?
thanks,

Box plot with 5th and 95th percentiles instead of 1.5 * IQR: problems implementing an existing solution...
Hi all,
I'm just getting started with R and I would appreciate some help. I'm having
trouble creating a boxplot with whiskers at the 95th and 5th percentiles
instead of at 1.5 * IQR. I have read the relevant documentation, and checked
existing mails on this topic. I found a small modification that should work

Lattice box percentile plot
Dear Nabble.
I am trying to draw a box percentile plot with trellis using the panel in
Hmisc. I really want to colour the plots in. I can alter several of features
of the plot by changing the trellis par settings but I just can’t fill the
shape in.
Here is some example code which alters line colour and dot symbol:

Adjusting Yaxis (ylim) limits on a plotMeans(DV, IV1, IV2, error.bars="se")
Hello everyone,
I have tried to look for this everywhere and so far have no luck. I have a
plotMeans(DV, IV1, IV2, error.bars="se") graph that plots my data
(DV-continuous, IVs are factors, IV1 - two levels, IV2-four levels). I am
trying to increase a scale of my y-axis (to be consistent with my other
graphs), but unfortunately nothing works with "plotMeans" function, which

plot mean + S.E. over time
Hi, there!
I finally became a disciple of 'R', after having lost years of my life
handling data with a popular, rather wide-spread spreadsheet-software.
Now I want to plot the results of many runs of my simulation over time,
so that the means +/- Standard error are on the y-axis, and time on the
x-axis.
I have tried 'boxplot', with timesteps as the grouping variable, but did
