function kde2d
Good evening, I am Marta Colombo, student at Milan's Politecnico. Thank you very much for your kindness, this mailing list is really useful. I am using the function kde2d for two-dimensional kernel density estimation and I'd like to know something more about this kind of density estimator. In particular I'd like to know: what bandwidth is used ? Thank you in advance for your attention

display of a loess fitted surface
Good morning, I am Marta Colombo, student at Politecnico,Milan. I am studying local regression models and I am using loess function. My problem is that when I have a loess object I don't know how to display the fitted surface; in fact, while in S when you have a loess object you can see it writing plot(object), in R this dosen't work. Also I'd like to know if there is something like the

fisher.test
Hi! I am Marta Colombo, student in Mathematical Engineering at "Politecnico di Milano". For my master degree thesis I have to analyze some categorical data. My dataset is composed by 327 individuals and 16 variables. I am using Fisher exact test to test independence on IxJ contingency tables, but I have a problem with one variable. R gives me this error message: FEXACT error 7.

R-squared
Good evening, I am Marta Colombo, student of the "Politecnico" in Milan and I'm looking for some help.I'd like to know how I can see R-Squared using loess because in the output there are only: number of observations equivalent number of parameters residual standard error and even looking at the summary I wasn't able to find it. Thank you very much for the attention, Marta

Prediction method for lowess,loess,lokerns,lpepa,ksmooth
Hi Every Body, I don't know why some regression functions have no related prediction function. For example lowess, loess, lokerns, lpridge, lpepa, and ksmooth. What could help? Is there any global or wrapper function so that can help? Regards, Amir Safari --------------------------------- [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

How to do knn regression?
Hello, I want to do regression or missing value imputation by knn. I searched r-help mailing list. This question was asked in 2005. ksmooth and loess were recommended. But my case is different. I have many predictors (p>20) and I really want try knn with a given k. ksmooth and loess use band width to define neighborhood size. This contrasts to knn's variable band width via fixing a

2D filter in R?
Hi all, I am looking for a command for doing 2D filtering (rectangular or Gaussian) in R... I have looked at ksmooth, filter and convolve but they seem to be 1D... Any thoughts? Thanks a lot! [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Inquiry about bandwidth rescaling in Ksmooth
Apologies in advance if my comments don't help, in which case, no need to respond, but I noted in ?ksmooth: "bandwidth the bandwidth. The kernels are scaled so that their quartiles (viewed as probability densities) are at ? 0.25*bandwidth." So, could this be a source of the discrepancies you cited? Given that ?ksmooth explicitly says: "Note: This function was implemented for

:predict.ppr
Hi all, I am doing a projection pursuit regression using the ppr() function from modreg. I would also like to use predict.ppr(). However, I cannot find any information about it in the help files. There is a link to predict.ppr in the index for modreg, but that link is to the help for ppr(). Has predict.ppr() not been implemented? If not, does anyone have a suggestion as to how to implement

Interfacing R_project from program languages
Hello, I need an information: is it possible to call the statistical R_project funtions from a C or Fortran application? In the r_exts.pdf manual I found that is possible to interface R-project with compiled C/Fortran routines, but I didn't found anything about the opposite situation. Thanks in advance Giovanni Colombo CESI spa - Funzione Informatica e Automazione Via Rubattino 54 - 20134

Bandwidth selection for ksmooth( )
Dear R Users, Before running ksmooth( ), a suitable bandwidth selection is needed. I use some functions for this task and receive these results for my data: width.SJ(y,nb=100,method="ste") : 40.25 bcv(y,nb=100) : 40.53 ucv(y) : 41.26 bandwidth.nrd(y) : 45.43 After implementing the function ksmooth(x,y, bandwidth= each of abovementioned bandwidths), I have some NAs

lattice: loess smooths based on y-axis values
Hi there, I'm using the lattice package to create an xy plot of abundance vs. depth for 5 stages of barnacle larvae from 5 species. Each panel of the plot represents a different stage, while different loess smoothers within each panel should represent different species. However, I would like depth to be on the y-axis and abundance to be on the x-axis, because this is more intuitive as an

objecto ggplot
Carlos, mi intencion es entender el codigo: https://github.com/woobe/blenditbayes/blob/master/2013-06-street-level-crime/analysis.R Para luego hacer mi trabajo, algo similar a esto, pero adaptado a mi región. Si te fijas en las lineas 141-161, esta esto: ## Convert the base map into a ggplot object ## All added Cartesian coordinates to enable more geom options later on map.ggmap <-

Inquiry about bandwidth rescaling in Ksmooth
Dear Sir, Madam, or to whom this may concern, my name is Jan Failenschmid and I am a Ph.D. student at Tilburg University. For my project I have been looking into different types of kernel regression estimators and corresponding R functions. While comparing different functions I noticed that stats::ksmooth returned different estimates for the same bandwidth as other kernel regression estimators
