Converting a S-plus file.
Hello all. I've got a little file which is from S-Plus. The problem is I don't own a copy of said program, and R won't read it. I wonder if there's a caritative soul here who could export the file to some other format (csv, or even excel!) and send it back to me. Thanks in advance. Juan Pablo

Comment on loadURL: should default to mode="wb"
So the help for loadURL says: 'loadURL' is a convenience wrapper which downloads a file, loads it and deletes the downloaded copy. Trying to load an rda file on Windows (XP, R-devel) I was surprised when I received an error about input being corrupted with LF replaced by CR. The fix was to specify mode="wb" to loadURL. This gets passed to download.file and the right

problem with loadURL -- claims newer version used
Dear list, I am trying to prepare a handout showing how to use R for factor analysis. As part of the exercise I want to save a correlation matrix on a tutorial web page. I can save with no problem (saving locally and then transferring to the web site). Although I can load() the local file, I am having problems getting loadURL to read the remote file. I have tried saving it as an ascii

Parallel R
Hello, The problem I'm working now requires to operate on big matrices. I've noticed that there are some packages that allows to run some commands in parallel. I've tried snow and NetWorkSpaces, without much success (they are far more slower that the normal functions) My problem is very simple, it doesn't require any communication between parallel tasks; only that it divides

Mini-centOS
I am using centOS for my server and centOS is extremely stable. I almost love centOS more than my wife. However, centOS is a bit heavy to run on my notebook (P III 1G, 256MB RAM). I need gnome, firefox, openoffice, realplayer, gaim, acrobat and thunderbird on my notebook, but if I install all of them (plus base-system), my notebook becomes very slow. I wish I could have a lighter version of centOS

Mr. Christopher Montgomery Lead Programmer Xiph.Org. <p>Dear Sir, I would really appreciate it if you could tell me which player(s) to use to listen to streaming radios broadcasting on the Net in the OGG VORBIS format. MacOS X binaries won't install
I've tried installing the MacOS X binaries for R available at: http://www.bioconductor.org/CRAN/ I'm running MacOS X version 10.2.8. I get a message indicating the installation is successful, but when I double-click on the R icon that shows up in my Applications folder, the application seems to try to open but closes immediately. I looked for /Library/Frameworks/R.framework (by

R-1.9.1 on OS 10.2
Hi, I've been using R 1.7.1 but now I need to upgrade to R-1.9.1. Since it is not on the Fink tree yet I tried to install it from source to my sw library. The configuration runs fine, but make doesn't. Here is the error message I get: /sw/lib/libg2c.a(err.o) definition of common f(short, void, int, char) (size 4) /usr/bin/libtool: internal link edit command failed make[4]: ***

Another question about the tutorial
Hello After upgrading to ruby 1.8.2, finally got rails to install properly. Now, following the tutorial, I found a couple of things: First, apparently rails tries to establish local mysql connections using "/tmp/mysql.sock" which mandrake does not use. In mandrake 10.1, this file is located at "/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock". The solution is to create a simlink

Resumen de R-help-es, Vol 54, Envío 22
Hola!

r 1.7.1, MacOS 9.2.2, mclust 2.0-2 (Update), lapackLib
I am new to r and mclust. I have version 1.7.1 of r, precompiled for Classic Mac OS (I am running 9.2.2 on a PowerBook G4). I downloaded the precompiled version 2.0-2 of mclust for Classic MacOS. It appears (from the example I was using below) that I need a library called lapackLib. There does not appear to be a precompiled version at CRAN. There is a makefile for lapackLib, to use with MPW.

r 1.7.1, MacOS 9.2.2, mclust 2.0-2
To Whom It May Concern: I am new to r and mclust, so this may be a silly question. It has also been a lot of years since I have used unix regularly. I have version 1.7.1 of r, precompiled for Classic Mac OS (I am running 9.2.2 on a PowerBook G4). I downloaded the precompiled version 2.0-2 of mclust for Classic MacOS. The implementation of r appears to be functioning properly (various

r 1.7.1, MacOS 9.2.2, mclust 2.0-2 (Update)
My previous messge to the list follows below this one. I found some garbage at the top of the file 'mclust' in the 'R' subdirectory of the package. I deleted that with BBEdit. The package appears to load properly now, although I have not really tested it. I am not sure to whom to report this. I downloaded the package twice, so this may be a problem with the version stored

Integrate a 1-variable function with 1 parameter (Jose L. Romero)
Hey fellas: I would like to integrate the following function: integrand <- function (x,t) { exp(-2*t)*(2*t)^x/(10*factorial(x)) } with respect to the t variable, from 0 to 10. The variable x here works as a parameter: I would like to integrate the said function for each value of x in 0,1,..,44. I have tried Vectorize to no avail. Thanks in advance, jose romero

summary statistics for grouped data
Hello list: Is there an easy way (preferably through one of the standard R packages) of obtaining summary statistics for grouped data? I could split the data into classes by hist, and then progressively calculate all the "columns" i need to obtain the mean and standard deviation, but i was looking for a single function that could do that with a data vector. Thanks in advance, jose
