segmentation fault with GCC 3.0.2
I have now tested R 1.3.1 compiled with GCC 3.0.2 on Solaris and the example I
previously posted (repeated below) still gives a segmentation fault, as it does
with GCC 3.0.1 but not with 2.95.2. The eigen calculation sometimes needs to be
repeated several times before the segmentation fault occurs. La.eigen does not
cause a problem. (The problem occurred with R-devel too, but I have not tested

Putting q(save=F) at the end of my file does not work in my

have that quit statement in my .First so that I always quit that way
interactively. The problem is that it is ignored in batch.

segfault on Sparc Linux (RH6.0)
We are having problems building R on Red Hat Linux 6.0/Sparc.
R compiles with no problem but then it fails "make tests".
Specifically, the line
eigen(cbind(-1,c(1:2,0),0:2)) # complex values
causes a segmentation fault. Previous versions of Red Hat Linux
did not give this problem.
The eigen() function is one of the rare cases in the base library where
Fortran code is called via the

Thanks to Roger Bivand, my problem was solved. binutils 2.14 was updatet to binutils 2.15, as indicated under.

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for your help. I need to plot all other countries as well.
Thanks for your time

dealing with a messy dataset
It looks like fixed width. I just used the last position of each
field to get the size and used the 'readr' package;

Compare test-suite benchmarks performance complied without TBAA, with default TBAA and with new TBAA struct path
Hello,
I was interested in how much Type-Based Alias Analysis helps to optimize code. For that purpose, I've compared
three sets of benchmarks: compiled without TBAA, compiled with a default TBAA metadata format, and compiled
with new TBAA metadata format.
As a set of benchmarks, I've used the LLVM test suite (http://llvm.org/docs/TestingGuide.html#test-suite-overview)
which has a lot of

compiling R-1.0.1 under Solaris

I am trying to compile R version 1.0.1 under Solaris on a SUNsparcUltra10.

[LLVMdev] Error messages in llvm-test
Hi all,
llvm-test fails on me in the first test (and many subsequent tests, but
I hope that fixing the first test will allow me to continue).
I see syntax errors from the C compiler and core dumps from llc.
Is any of this supposed to happen?
This is still on my amd64 machine. However, the build process is using
the right incantation to compile (gcc-4.2 -m32 -Wl,-melf_i386).

I need to look/understand what the ".fortran()" doing in say, the source

R-alpha: Eigenvalue Computation Query
I have been looking at the "eigen" function and have reintroduced the
ability to compute (right) eigenvalues and vectors for non-symmetric
matrices. I've also made "eigen" complex capable.
The code is based on the eispack entry points RS, RG, CH, CG (which is
what S appears to use too). The problem with both the S and R
implementations is that they consume huge amounts

[LLVMdev] IR Passes and TargetTransformInfo: Straw Man
Hi, Sean:
I'm sorry I lie. I didn't mean to lie. I did try to avoid making a
*BIG* change
to the IPO pass-ordering for now. However, when I make a minor change to
populateLTOPassManager() by separating module-pass and non-module-passes, I
saw quite a few performance difference, most of them are degradations.
Attacking
these degradations one by one in a piecemeal manner is wasting

Cool!
What changes have you seen to generated code size?
I'll take it for a spin on our benchmarks.

[LLVMdev] Proposal: change LNT’s regression detection algorithm and how it is used to reduce false positives
Hi Chris and others!
I totally support any work in this direction.
In the current state LNT’s regression detection system is too noisy, which makes it almost impossible to use in some cases. If after each run a developer gets a dozen of ‘regressions’, none of which happens to be real, he/she won’t care about such reports after a while. We clearly need to filter out as much noise as we can - and
