NUMERIC_POINTER question
Dear R-developers,
Using .Call I pass a S4 class with e.g. the following class definition:
setClass("mmatrix",representation(
data="matrix")
)
On the "C side" i do
mat = GET_SLOT(vs,install("data"));
and then:
printf("%f\n",NUMERIC_POINTER(mat)[1]);
The above print statement produces the correct output if
xx<- new("mmatrix")

optim
Dear R-helpers,
The function optim implements algorithms that I would like to use.
I have function implemented in R, which given the parameters of which
minimization is to take place returns a scalar as well as the gradient.
Unfortunately optim requires two function _fn_ and _gr_ where fn returns the
function value and gr the gradient. Splitting my function in two functions
would be easy,

How to add values to an array at any position.
Hi,
How to add values to an array at any position.
Asking because of the following:
e.g.
y<-c(0.1,NaN,0.2,NaN) #or data frame
x<-na.omit(y)
take some columns from x and
do some computation with functions which do not allow NaN 's.
After the computing add NaN's at positions stored in
attr(x,"na.action")
of the result vector.

dyn.load error -- undefined symbol: ...
Dear R-developers,
I am working on an C interface to some c functions.
I compiled the c file using R CMD SHLIB without any compilation errors. All
libs used are added to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
However dyn.load("interface.so")
produces undefined symbol: N_VNew_Serial;
which is defined in one of the libs I link against.
Where, and how to start searching for the error?

Dear R-developers,
I am getting the following error message (see bottom of e-mail) and can't make

glm and capture-recapture
Hello,
I am almost new in R, so perhaps my question will be silly.
I try to use R for analyzing capture-recapture data in epidemiology. A cancer registry has different sources of patients. We know in each list, patients already known in all other list. The aim is to use capture-recapture models for estimating the number of patients unknow of all the sources.
Because no order in sources, one

GLMM random effects
Hello,
I have a couple questions regarding generalized linear mixed models
specifically around fitting the random effects terms correctly to account
for any pseudo-replication.
I am reading through and trying to follow examples from Zuur et al. Mixed
Effects Models and Extensions in Ecology with R, but am still at bit unsure
if I am specifying the models correctly.

/ Right division.
Dear R gurus.
Is there an R function equivalent to octaves / (Right division)
withouth forming the inverse of Y' using solve ?
[snip - from octave docu]
Right division. This is conceptually equivalent to the expression
(inverse (y') * x')'
but it is computed without forming the inverse of Y'.

Replay mail to test MTA + filtering
Hi All,
My kit : Centos4.4 + Postfix + SA + ClamAV (not that its relevant)
General question - Does anyone know of a product which can take a folder
/ mbox
of mail (spam, ham, virus infected stuff, scam mail and hoaxes) and
"replay" it back
against a test server to determine the servers ability to filter?
I have looked at some low level (IP) packet replayers, but i cant really

getting all circular arrangements without accounting for order
New function below is a bit faster due to more efficent memory handling.
for-loop FTW!

getting all circular arrangements without accounting for order
Jeff,
I wanted to let you know that your function is faster than generating the directional circular permutations and weeding.
Here is the time for n = 10. I compared with just doing the permutations, there is no point in proceeding further with the weeding since it is slower at the start itself.
system.time(directionless_circular_permutations(10))
user system elapsed
1.576 0.000

getting all circular arrangements without accounting for order
I don't know if this is more efficient than enumerating with distinct
directions and weeding... it seems kind of heavyweight to me:
#######
library(gtools)
directionless_circular_permutations <- function( n ) {
v <- seq.int( n-1 )
ix <- combinations( n-1, 2 )
jx <- permutations( n-3, n-3 )
x <- lapply( seq.int( nrow( ix ) )
, function( i ) {

Yes, however, this seems a bit wasteful. Just wondering if there are other, more efficient options possible.
Best wishes,

Undocumented S4 methods: generic coerce and siglist matrix, Massvector
Hi,
While checking the package I am getting all the time the following
complain about the function:
Undocumented S4 methods:

I have not defined the function nowhere in the R files.
My gues is that this has something to do with the following definition
of the setAs function.
