problem with dates
I Have been trying to convert a vector of dates into julian dates using the following commands: as.date & as.numeric. I can convert a date no problem by doing the following: as.numeric (as.date ("9/21/2004")) but as soon as I try to do an entire vector I am given the following: as.numeric (as.date(date1)) Error in as.date(date1) : Cannot coerce to date format I have tried

Loading Excel file into Limma
Dear mailing group, This is my first time here. Glad to have this resource! I am currently trying to load an Excel file into R (limma package loaded) using the source(*name of directory*) command, but it cannot open the file. I renamed the file as .R and .RData, to no avail. The Excel data contains one gene name per row and about 100 data points per gene (columns). I am only used to

Help with histograms
I would like to make one histogram combining two value vectors. One vector has more than 50 entries and the other only has 16. Both vectors contain dates in the POSIXct format. I need to be able to highlight the 16 entries from the smaller data set. Is it possible to do this with the hist function? Which function should I use? ACCESS R and dates
I have used the RODBC package to read in data I have stored in an Access file. When I am using data from files other than ACCESS I have no problem using the survival package to work with dates; however, with the ACCESS data the dates are reading-in in the following format: "2004-02-11 Pacific Standard Time". How do I remove the "Pacific Standard Time" part in ACCESS or R so

how can I read a non-standard XLS file
I have attached a file downloaded from database mirWalk. Apparently it is in XLS format (this is the extension of the downloaded file). However, I cannot open it with OpenOffife spreadsheet program and Excel itself cannot separate the columns as it does when a true XLS file is loaded. I tried to read the attached downloaded file through R function "read.xls" and got the following

[PATCH] Updated udp.c to use real client ip and subnetmask values if on local subnet
from: Jeff Sloan <jeff_sloan at selinc.com> Based on commit: 9314e330 Setting UseDefaultAddress to TRUE uses invalid StationAddress and SubnetMask values. This is in a network with a local TFTP/MTFTP server. If the server is local, on the same subnet, UseDefaultAddress is set to false and the client ip and subnetmask are loaded, otherwise set UseDefaultAddress to TRUE. This is added to

A model for disease progression
I would be grateful for advice about the following problem. It's not directly R-related, but I'm hoping that R will help me analyse the following data. I have a table which indicates the progression of a certain age-related disease. At a certain point in time, a population was sampled; and I have measurements for the age of each individual, and their disease stage. (Disease stage is an

formatting dates in axis labels (ggplot2)
I'm having trouble figuring out how to format Date variables when used as axis labels in graphs. The particular case here is an attempt to re-create Nightingale's coxcomb graph with ggplot2, where I'd like the months to be labeled as "Mar 1885", "Apr 1885", using a date format of "%b %Y" applied to label the dates, or really anything other than

Speex on M3 for a device for a disabled person to use
Hi Tristan, well... if speed is really his problem (and looking at those 72 MHz it probably is), wouldn't Speek surpass Opus by far? I agree that Opus is way better, but it's sadly also using more resources... But yeah, Richard you should give Opus a try if possible ;) It's generally easier to use then Speex and also more feature rich. Yours sincerely, Ren? Sch?mann *From:*

A stats question -- about survival analysis and censoring
Dear UseRs, Suppose I have data regarding smoking habits of a prospective cohort and wish to determine the risk ratio of colorectal cancer in the smokers compared to the non-smokers. What do I do at the end of the study with people who die of heart disease? Can I just censor them exactly the same as people who become uncontactable or who die in a plane crash? If not, why not? I'm thinking
