How to set the background of xyplot() to be white?
The usual background of xyplot is grey. Is there any advantage of using this color instead of white? I don't know how to change this specification into other colors. Anybody knows?

Where to learn how to deal with time class variable?
Dear R-helpers, In my data set, I have a time variable 'RecordTime' whose class property is 'times'. When I list my data set, I see the values of RecordTime is like 10:20:30 in a 'h:m:s' format. Suppose I want to choose all the data after 10 o'clock, then use subset(data,RecordTime>10:20:30) just doesn't work. I noticed that all the values of RecordTime seem

how to keep very small or large number?
When I was computing some joint probabilities, I found that R reported most of the results to to -Inf and thus didn't record the value. I guess it is b/c the joint log(probability) can be extremely small. Is there a way in R to keep the values even if they are small?

Dear R-helpers, I want to merge several data sets into one single data set. For example, there are three separate data sets like: Set 1: id age gender 01 12 M 03 15 F 04 19 M ... Set 2: id time x1 01 1 0.25 01 2 0.27 01 3 0.29 03 1 0.15 03 2 0.18 04 2 0.22 04 3 0.54 ... Set 3: id time x2 01 1 0.34 01 2 0.55 01 3 0.79 03 1 0.12 03 2 0.23 04 2 0.45 04 3 0.56 ...... mpg123 hangs on close, but plays fine.
I am running Asterisk CVS-04/16/03-18:57:13, and mpg123-0.59r It all sounds great and it plays at the correct pitch and speed. However at the end of the file it simply does nothing. It does not go on the the next step in the extension.conf nor does it hang up. It just sits there. During play I have two processes running for the mp3 stream: root 6300 6299 8 22:32 ?

List of tables rather than an extra dimension in the table or (l)apply(xtabs)
I'm not sure how to best explain what I am after but here goes. I have a data frame with 2 geographical factors. One is the major region the other is the component regions. I am trying to process all the regions at the same time without using "for". So I need (think, I do) a list of matrices each structured according to the number of subregions within each region. So is there a

ExecIf and empty variables (early evaluation)
Imagine that you have this code: exten => _X!,n,Set(foo=${QUEUE_WAITING_COUNT(${QueueName})})) If ${QueueName} happens to be unset, this will cause a warning: [Jul 22 14:26:17] ERROR[8114]: app_queue.c:5187 queue_function_queuewaitingcount: QUEUE_WAITING_COUNT requires an argument: queuename The obvious solution: exten => _X!,n,ExecIf($["${QueueName}" !=

Mathematica and R
What are some effective ways to leverage the strengths of R and Mathematica for the analysis of a single data set? More specifically, are there any functions that can assist with any of the following? 1. Calling an R function from Mathematica. 2. Calling a Mathematica function from R. 3. Using XML or another reliable data format to pass vectors, matrices, and/or lists from one environment to

Pretty story output for non-Rails project
I''m taking my first fledgling steps driving a new ruby (non-rails) project with BDD. I''ve got a (test) story working.
