choose between dates and times
Dear R-helpers, I have the following data: y happenat x 5185 (07/22/05 00:05:14) 14 5186 (07/22/05 00:15:14) 14 5187 (07/22/05 00:25:14) 14 5188 (07/22/05 00:35:14) 14 ...... I want to choose between 07/25/05 15:30:00 and 07/26/05 12:30:00. Anybody had experience in handling this kind of data? Is there a simple way to subset by the variable

cloud plot has white(transparent?) background
I am using the code example from the R graph gallery to look at a cloud plot: require(lattice) data(iris) print(cloud(Sepal.Length ~ Petal.Length * Petal.Width, data = iris, groups = Species, screen = list(z = 20, x = -70), perspective = FALSE, key = list(title = "Iris Data", x = .15, y=.85, corner = c(0,1), border = TRUE,

Lattices: Cloud: Background
Hi, There's probably some simple way of doing this, but I'm just not seeing it - How do I get the background to be white instead of grey when I have a cloud plot (using the lattices package)? par(bg="white") isn't working. I'm assuming par commands won't work on lattice plots. What should I use instead? Thanks, Adrienne [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Background color Windows device (newbie)
Dear R Gurus Just started on R ! Using xYplot from Hmisc (R 1.9, W2K) I get a grey/blue background that I would like to change to white (ie no background) or may be to another color. Tried to do that with par(bg) but only changed the color of the trellis heading. What's the right command to do that ? Kind regards, JL PS if anyone has nice default settings for win device please let me

Background color(s) for groupedData plot
I've been using par() to check the graphics parameters associated with both plot(<fitted linear model>) and plot(<grouped data object>). AFAIK the only differences are in the $cxy, $usr, $xaxp, and $yaxp parameters but the background color for the grouped data plot is grey while the linear model plot has a white background. When I've tried par(bg = "white") prior to

placing rectangle behind plot
I am trying to create a lattice plot and would like to later, i.e. after the plot is drawn, add a grey rectangle behind a portion of it. The following works except that the rectrangle is on top of and obscures a portion of the chart. I also tried adding col = "transparent" to the gpar list but that did not help -- I am on windows and perhaps the windows device does not support

no transparent background in bmp
I've been attempting to export a graphics file of my lattice plots and no matter what color I use for the bg= argument in the bmp/jpeg/png function, the background is grey. bmp(filename = "c:/my_paper/resids.bmp", width=1024, height=1024, pointsize=10, bg="transparent") # these are lattice plots. plot them in a 3x2 matrix print( hgqqplot, position=c(0.0, 0.66, 0.5, 1.0 ),

Help needed with lattice graph!
Dear R users, If I manage to sort out this graph, it is certainly a candidate for the new R graph gallery (http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/displayGallery.php)! I created the following lattice graph: library(lattice) tmp <- expand.grid(geology = c("Sand","Clay","Silt","Rock"), species =

xyplot() does not plot legends with "relation=free" scales
Hi all, I have this problem with lattice that xyplot() won't draw some of my axis labels if the type (i.e. the relation argument) of scales is set as free. For example, in the plot below, I would want it to also show: 1. the labels E1,...E6 below the 10th panel (i.e. 3rd row, 2 col)....just as it is now done below the 12th panel.... 2. as well as the labels (2,4,6,8) on the top of panels 1

Varying grid.rect in different panels of a Lattice plot
Dear r-help, Sleep-deprivation from having 2 youngsters under 2 around the house is fuzzing my brain, so please be gentle if the answer to this query is obvious! In the example below, I'm trying to use grid.rect to add grey rectangles to the panels of a lattice plot to indicate which months spawning occurred of a (very cute) native Tasmanian fish. The fish in the two lakes spawned at

within and between subject calculation
Dear helpers in this forum, I have the following question: Suppose I have the following data set: id x y 023 1 2 023 2 5 023 4 6 023 5 7 412 2 5 412 3 4 412 4 6 412 7 9 220 5 7 220 4 8 220 9 8 ...... and i want to calculate sum_{i=1}^k sum_{j=1}^{n_i}x_{ij}*y_{ij} is there a simple way to do this within and between subject summation in R?

Where to learn how to deal with time class variable?
Dear R-helpers, In my data set, I have a time variable 'RecordTime' whose class property is 'times'. When I list my data set, I see the values of RecordTime is like 10:20:30 in a 'h:m:s' format. Suppose I want to choose all the data after 10 o'clock, then use subset(data,RecordTime>10:20:30) just doesn't work. I noticed that all the values of RecordTime seem

Overlay of barchart and xyplot
Hello R Folks, I am new to R. I have been struggling to overlay a barchart with a xyplot together on one plot but did not get this worked out. Any help and idea are greatly appreciated. I attached R scripts for barchart and xyplot below and also data I used. What I am trying to do is just to put the barchart and xyplot together on one plot. Huapeng <<dispersal_infestation.csv>>

lattice : using both strip and strip.left
Dear all, I'm routinely using lattice and ggplot2, I wish to create a lattice theme that looks not too dissimilar to ggplot's defaults so I can include both graphs in a document with a consistent look. To illustrate my questions, consider the following example: > library(ggplot2) > library(lattice) > > # example data > x <- seq(0, 10, len = 100) > y1 <-

graphics backgrounds from gray to white in png()
Hi, I'm trying to make a png file of a histogram. I would like a white background in the final product but end up producing a gray one, despite setting what I think are the correct parameters. Suggestions for how to properly set a white background would be welcome. Thanks in advance, Scot # for non-lattice > par("bg"="white") > par("bg") [1]

Solid and dotted lines saving an xyplot
Dear R-users, I would a small problem saving a graph with postscript after using xyplot. Whereas in the R-screen the two lines are solid, once the image is saved as .eps file the second lines (blue in the following example) is dotted. Here there is a simple example. Thanks in advance for your help, Carlo Giovanni Camarda # creating data a1 <- sort(runif(10)) a2 <- sort(runif(10)) a3 <-

Change panel background color in spplot()
Hi! How does one change the background color of the map-panel in spplot()? Example: library(sp) data(meuse.grid) gridded(meuse.grid) = ~x+y spplot(meuse.grid, "part.a") How would I get another background-color for the map-panel (but not for the whole plot) here? Thank you! Marcel

lattice background color
I'm sure there is a simple answer to this question, but it stumps me so far. I've been using R to create graphic images and paste them into other programs (Word, PowerPoint). Recently, I've been using lattice (wonderful package), but I can't figure out how to create graphs in lattice that don't have a background color -- that is, my graphs carry over the grey background if I

Wireframe graph: black and white shading instead of color
All, The code below produces a color 3D graph. I'd like to make it black and white shading. I tried setting col.regions to FALSE but this just made it completely white. I want the graph to look exactly as is, except black (or grey) and white shading. Is this possible? Cheers, David p.list = c(.01, .1, .25, .5, .75, .9) cov.list = c(.2, .1, .05) ### leave out .01 X = rep(p.list, 3)

change fitted line colour in lme() trellis plot?
If I used a groupedData object, if I do fit<-lme(blah) then plot(augPred(fit)) produces a nice trellis plot of the data along with the fitted lines However I find that the lines and the data points are in the same colour (light blue against a medium grey background). Is there a way to make the lines in a different colour (e.g. black)? It would also be nice if the line were plotted after the
