How to transform the date format as "20050425"
Dear R user,
if the dates are in format as "20050425" i.e., Apr. 25 2004"
can you suggest an easy way to transfom it to standard form
as "2005-04-25" or "2004Apr25" or "2005/04/25" or any other
format which is R recognizable?
if there is no easy way to do that, can you let me know what

cohen's kappa
Dear all,
I have a question on Cohen's kappa:
Assume I have two datasets, one has 500 objects, 10 methods and the other,
1000 different objects, 20 different methods. Could I compare between the
two datasets to conclude the 10 methods are more "concordant" than the 20
ones by looking at some output, for example, cohen.kappa{concord} ?
One more, could anyone explain in brief,

Power of a single sample binomial test
The only references to this I can find searching the archives are to a
student who asked in relation to his course work on a stats course.
Promise I'm not doing that!
I have a situation in which we want to test proportions against an
expected proportion, binom.test() is great. I'd like to do some post
hoc power tests (the x and n were beyond our control in the survey as

controlling the x axis of boxplots
v 2.0.1 (sooooh old!) on Win2k
I think I know the answer to this but I can hope ...
I have data for continuous variables (measures of residents) by a
categorical variable in range (1,22), the units in which they live.
I want to plot these data with a pair of boxplots one above another
with same x-axis (1,22) using par(mfrow=c(2,1)) and then plotting
first for the women then for the men.

Clinical significance as a package?
Hi,
Many thanks to those of you who responded to my last post about
Schafer's MI packages. I am really pleased to have access to them
through R which, I have to say, is an amazing piece of software. I am
only sorry that I haven't found it until now.
But, to my question. Does anyone know if there is a package developed
for evaluating clinical significance using Jacobson and Truax's,

Rcgi
I am keen to look at Rcgi as I want to put up some simple bits of R
to do prescribed tasks on HTML form input. Rweb is overkill and
worryingly flexible for what I want and it sounds as if Rcgi is more
what I need. However, I can't get any of the URLs I've found for it
to work over the last few days.
Does anyone have a recent copy they could Email me or a working URL
for it?
TIA,

Gantt chart problem after upgrade to R 2.4.0
I am having a problem with a gantt chart since
moving to R2.4.0. from 2.3.1
I made some adaptations to the code from
http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/RGraphGallery.php?graph=74
and successful produced a simple gantt chart. However
when I upgraded to 2.4.0 it no longer works as
desired. See
http://ca.geocities.com/jrkrideau/R/gantproblem.pdf
for the two charts. The charts were produced

Gantt Chart Using Plotrix

So I try to create an object that will contain this information.

Gantt Chart Using Plotrix
Hi,
The help file for gantt.chart states that dates must be in POSIXct
format, and the example shows how to do that. There's no reason that I
can see that you can't use a data frame as input to gantt.chart, but
you need to be very careful that your data frame matches the correct
format. I bet also that your character fields were imported as
factors, because you didn't specify not to.

Plotting league tables/ caterpillar plots
Dear list,
I was wondering if there is a function to plot league tables, sometimes
also known as "caterpillar plots"?
A league table is conceptually very similar to a box plot. One difference
is that the inter-quartile ranges are not shown. If there isn't such a
function a first attempt for a "selfmade" plot would be to tell boxplot
not to plot boxes (sounds silly

Gantt Chart Using Plotrix
Hi,
Your attempt didn't work because you didn't do what I suggested, which
was make sure that your data frame matched the example given in the
help for gantt.chart.
Here's what you have:

'data.frame': 3 obs. of 3 variables:
$ c1d1: Factor w/ 3 levels "task 1","task 3",..: 1 3 2
$ c2d1: POSIXct, format: "2018-04-01"

Gantt Chart Using Plotrix
Hi Sarah
Thank you very much for your pointers.
Is there a way to specify the date string as POSIXct when reading in?
I have tried the following (very inelegant way) and still have no luck.
--- Begin Code ---
# 1st read in the spreadsheet with stringsAsFactors set to FALSE

Gantt Chart Using Plotrix
Hi
I am trying to generate a complex Gantt chart using the gantt.chart function in the plotrix package.
Ideally I would like to use a spreadsheet to populate the activities (tasks) and start and end dates that this function expects and then export the spreadsheet file as a .CSV text file so I can read in this file to generate the gantt chart. Reading through the help file I have not been able to

cohen kappa for two-way table
Greetings,
I am a bit confused by the results returned by the functions:
cohen.kappa {concord}
classAgreement {e1071}
when using a two-way table.
for example, if I have an matrix A, and a similar matrix B (same
dimensions), then:
matrix A and B can be found:

Getting data loaded
Hi,
I have been informed of a bug in the concord package, in that the data files
containing the tabulated critical values for Kendall's W are not loaded on
the command library(concord).
I had assumed that the lines in install.R would correspond to the commands to
load data in R, e.g.
data(Wcrit01)
data(Wcrit05)
While these work on the command line, I get the errors:
library(concord)
