Fping-appreciate some help please
Chaps, First post so be gentle-I have a specific app I use for network testing called Fping http://www.kwakkelflap.com/fping.html. It all works in WIndows but I'm trying to make the cross-over into Linux and this is a tool I use on a daily basis, hence the need to make it work I did ask on the Ubuntu forums but got short shrift, being told I should use the built in PING tool-fair comment but

I would appreciate some help with clustering
I have a binary vector whose length is known. Such a vector contains an unspecified number of 1s. My goal is 1. to generate as many clusters as the number of 1s 2. to place the 1 as much as possible at the center of its own cluster Example. Say I have the following binary vector: v <- c(0,0,1,0,0,0,0,1,0,1,0,0) Then I have to get 3 clusters. I can generate a matrix containing the distance of

Appreciate the help...
I received some interesting answers to my cron question. Most people said it was not possible. One person reviewed cron's source code and said the source would need to be modified. One person said I should mount the filesystem with noexec. I'll review and test the answers as best I can. To answer several people's curiosities of why I keep pushing - when I'm tasked with a

Rsync and rdist-like specials
Greetings, We manage a large farm of systems and push changes, patches, new software, etc. out to our clients using kerberized rdist. It's clunky and slow but it's got the magic of specials. Using a special one can tell rdist that if a particular file changes, preform this command. So, if we make a change to httpd.conf, we can tell rsync to bounce httpd. If httpd.conf hasn't change,

specials issue, a heads up
I mean if the person filing the bug regards style as more important than the truth of how R treats formulas then they?re literally talking in another language. I strongly recommend you do nothing or at most make a note in the documentation addressing this. Your time is too valuable. specials issue, a heads up
In the long run, coming up with a way to parse specials in formulas that is both clean and robust is a good idea - annoying users are a little bit like CRAN maintainers in this respect. I think I would probably do this by testing identical(eval(extracted_head), survival::Surv) - but this has lots of potential annoyances (what if extracted_head is a symbol that can't be found in any attached

specials issue, a heads up
I recently had a long argument wrt the survival package, namely that the following code didn't do what they expected, and so they reported it as a bug ? survival::coxph( survival::Surv(time, status) ~ age + sex + survival::strata(inst), data=lung) a. The Google R style guide? recommends that one put :: everywhere b. This breaks the recognition of cluster as a "special" in the
