paired repeated measurements
I have the following problem:
I measured co2 on 6 paired sites (one grubbed and one non-grubbed
fence per site -> grubbing = treatment). These measurements I repeated
15 times over 2 years. So, now my problem is how to analyze these
data. I tried the following model:
mod1_CO2<-lme(co2~treatment+time,random=~1|site,data=CO2_t1_t15)
I think with the random effect I included the paired

Test of Significance for overall-accuracy
Hello,
I have two classifications. How can I compare the overall-accuracy of these
classifications to each other?
Is there a possibility within R to test if the achieved overall-accuracy
for the classifications are differing significantly?
Additionaly, are the McNemar-Test and Broker-Test implented in a package of R?
Thank in advance for your help,

index of dispersion
Hi list
I'm looking for statisitic measurements describing the pattern of points
within a given polygon. Is there a function calculating the Index of
Dispersion and/or are there other functions summarising an observed pattern?

Dear list,
I calculated the kappa-accuracy for two differnt classifications.
How can I test now the two kappa-value for significance?
thanks, Mark

multiply two matrixes with the different dimension column by column
Dear all,
I would like to multiply two matrixes with the different dimension column
by column. Let make an example:
If I have two matrixes "X" and "Y"as follow:
X<- matrix(1:12, nrow=4, ncol=3, dimnames=list(c("A","B","C","D"),
c("stage1","stage2","stage3")))
Y<- matrix(1:28, nrow=4, ncol=7,

How can I calculate conditional mean in a large dataset including date data
Dear R users,
I have a dataframe with two columns: first column is date data (e.g.
1/1/2000 with character format: daily data from 1/1/1970 till 31/12/2003)
and second column is temperature value. Now I'd like to calculate mean for
each month in a year (i.e. May 2001, June 1997) and mean for each month in
all of years. As the number of days in some months is different from others
I could

How to see data for a package built under Windows
I have followed the instructions on how to build a Windows package and
everything seems to work EXCEPT that I can't see the data files that I have
loaded into the data directory. I have placed the appropriate data in the
data directory (as in the instructions). There are 3 data sets, which I can
see when I use the command in R. Details below. I have searched everywhere
to try to fix this, but

construct a bundle, subdirs do not exist?
Hi,
Sorry to bother, but I checked around and did not succed creating a
bundle from six existing packages (which are checkable, installable,
etc. individually). I carefully followed the procedure given in ch.
1.1.5 Package bundles. However, I am getting

Installing R help files (2.11 or later) when no internet access.
We work on a secure stand-alone server with no internet access, for
security reasons. We are running Windows XP. SInce version 2.11 the R
help files point straight to the internet. Is there any way we could
have a local help that we could access on our server.
Thanks in advance for any solutions

tap1 problem
Hi Tinc Mailing-Group,
Having set up the kernel correctly, and got tinc running successfully,
I am now trying to get two VPNs running at once. Hence I need to
have two ethertap devices ( /dev/tap0 and /dev/tap1 ).
The first tap0 device was created thus:
mknod -m 600 /dev/tap0 c 36 16
chown 0.0 /dev/tap0
The second tap1 device was created too:
mknod -m 600 /dev/tap1 c 36 17
chown 0.0 /dev/tap1

ID parameter in model
Hello,
I am apparently confused about the use of an id parameter for an event
history/survival model, and why the EHA documentation for aftreg does
not specify one. All assistance and insights are appreciated.
Attempting to specifiy an id variable with the documentation example
generates an "overlapping intervals" error, so I sorted the original
mort dataframe and set subsequent entry

logical and NA
Hi there, (sorry Martin, ich habe den falschen Empfaenger erwischt :-( )
Is there a function in the base package or elsewhere which returns TRUE and
not NA, even if NA is involved: (I did not find in the help system :-( )
if ( x==something & !is.na(something))
or
if ( x==something & !is.na(x==something))
If "something" is complicated, a function would be handy.
Thanks

First Variable in lm
Hi all,
I just cannot think of how to do it:
I want to take the first variable (column) of a data frame and regress
it against all other variables.
bla <- function (dat) {
reg <- lm(whateverthefirstofthevariablenamesis ~., data=dat)
return(reg)
}
What kind of function do I have to take instead of the
whateverthefirstofthevariablenamesis,
eval(), substitute(), get(), ...

Coding columns for survival analysis
Hello Folks,
I have 5 columns for thousands of tree records that record whether that
tree was alive or dead. I want to recode the columns such that the cell
reads "found" when a live tree is first observed, "alive" for when a
tree is found alive and is not just found, and "mort" when it was
previously alive but is now dead.
Given the following:

My version is
is.constant <- function(x) {
if (is.numeric(x) & !any(is.na(x))) identical(min(x), max(x)) else FALSE

How to retrieve a method
Hi there,
I am interested in the inner workings of wilcox.test:

how can I get at the code, if it is R-code? For Methods one should be able to learn what extension to use, but here default or such do not help.
Is there a wayplot.default to learn which different versions of
