error in kmeans
I am trying to generate kmean of 10 clusters for a 165 x 165 matrix. i do not see any errors known to me. But I get this error on running the script Error: empty cluster: try a better set of initial centers the commands are M <-matrix(scan("R_mutual",n = 165 * 165),165,165,byrow = T) cl <- kmeans(M,centers=10,20) len = dim(M)[1] .... .... I ran the same script last night and

NA's?
Your message doesn't help us very much. You haven't said what kind of calculation it is you want to do, and that certainly matters. For example, for some kinds of computations the solution you started below would work fine: > M <- matrix(1:16, 4, 4) > is.na(diag(M)) <- TRUE > M [,1] [,2] [,3] [,4] [1,] NA 5 9 13 [2,] 2 NA 10 14 [3,] 3 7 NA

algorithm used in k-mean clustering
Hi, I have used the kmean fucntion in R to produce some results for my analysis. I like to know the specific underlying algorithm used for the implementation of the function kmean in R. I tried looking for some documents but could not find any. I obtained the kmean result for k ranging from 2 to 10. When i did this initally it worked perfectly. When i tried running again i get the error

colors, lines, characters .... documentation
Hi, Very so often when i am plotting something, doing a histogram, or whatever i am struggling to find out which are the numbers for different colors, palette names, types of lines, symbols, etc. Is there any documentation on line with all these numbers / names and the associated symbol / color??? For example if i am using the command image it uses a palette from red to yellow, with red the

Termination for Asterisk Users - Inter-Asterisk Exchange
Folks! Netweb Group, Inc. fully supports connectivity to any Asterisk PBX systems you have and can provide A-Z termination with immediate effect. Any volume is good enough for us, even an amount as small as $1.00 a day will do for us. We will provide connectivity from our Softswitch IP 216.162.116.46. If anyone is interested, add this to your Asterisk IPBX and then email me for setting up a

ggplot: colours to geom_segments
Just as an exercise I am tying to add colours to a geom_segment command. I can get one colour but not a sequence of colours. Can anyone suggest how I can get the green lines in the plot below to be different colours? I thought I could use a palatte of colours but that did not seem to work. Thanks ========================================================================= library(ggplot2) xx

Selecting divergent colors
Hi, I was trying to make a density plot with 13 samples. To distinguish each sample, it would be good if each color is as different as possible from the other colors. I could use the built in function, but that does not do more than 8 colors and then goes back to recycling the cols. If I use a palette, then it is really difficult to distinguish between the colors. So, is there a way that I can

Need your help! I'm very confised and tired, tried a lot of variants but still at the start, even lost all understanding how the permissions and masks works. Cleaning up the memory
Hi, I have 4 huge tables on which i want to do a PCA analysis and a kmean clustering. If i run each table individually i have no problems, but if i want to run it in a for loop i exceed the memory alocation after the second table, even if i save the results as a csv table and i clean up all the big objects with rm command. To me it seems that even if i don't have the objects anymore, the

Help with K-means Clustering
Hello, I'm new using R. I'm trying to develop a K-means Clustering with R for some data I have, however each time I use that instruction with the same data my cluster means, clustering vector and within cluster sum of square change and I don't understand why because I use the same parameters and the same data. Can anybody explain me why does it happen? Thank you Act. Calef

setting global options for a package
This may be elementary, but I can't find an answer: How can I set up global options for some specific arguments to functions in a package which can be easily changed by the user? This question relates to the selection of colors used in functions in several packages (heplots, genridge), where I want to provide reasonable default values for plots, but allow users to change those defaults

Problem with R colors
Hello, I am having difficulty obtaining the correct colors in my R charts. > colors()[c(552, 254, 26)] [1] "red" "green" "blue" But, if I specify col=552 in my barplot, I get gray bars. Likewise, col=254 gives bright pink, and col=26 is a red-orange. I get accurate results when I spell out the names, but I am making a pallet with 20- 30 colors and it is a

I would appreciate some help with clustering
I have a binary vector whose length is known. Such a vector contains an unspecified number of 1s. My goal is 1. to generate as many clusters as the number of 1s 2. to place the 1 as much as possible at the center of its own cluster Example. Say I have the following binary vector: v <- c(0,0,1,0,0,0,0,1,0,1,0,0) Then I have to get 3 clusters. I can generate a matrix containing the distance of

Correct scaling of axis in persp3d plot
Hi, I want to format my axis in my persp3d plot. With my data, which I attached I created a persp3d plot with the following code, which I summarized from different code snippets I found: library(rugarch)library(rgl)library(fGarch)fd <-as.data.frame(modelfit,which ='density')color <-rgb(85,141,85,maxColorValue=255)x <-seq(-0.2,0.2,length=100)y <-c(1:2318)f

white in the default palette
Dear All, [I'd already sent this message earlier (Apr 6) but as I had no response and I still see that it is the case in R1.5 I thought I'd try again] I recently encountered a problem (actually missed some data) because "white" is one of colours in the "default" palette and that does not show up to well on my transparent (on white background). Of course it is

Strategy for creating a palette...?
Dear all, I'm generally not a big fan of GUIs, but I have just discovered one thing where a GUI would be a nice thing: creating color palettes. I'm creating an "image", for transparencies for a lecture I'm giving, so this is going to look great... :-) What I'm out for, is to make green tones and red tones, and a relatively sharp break between them. This break will

How to wrap or split labels on plot
Dear R gurus, I want to wrap labels that are too long for a plot. I have looked at strsplit(), substr(), nchar(), and strwrap(). I think it's some combination but I'm having difficulty trying to figure out the right combo. I think I need to create some new matrix containing the labels already split, though I'm not sure if maybe there is a quick and dirty way to address this
