Question about biasing in sd()???
Hi,
Can anyone help me with the following. I have been using R for Monte
Carlo simulations and got some results I couldn't explain. Therefor I
performed following short test:
--------------
mean.sds <- NULL
sample.sizes <- 3:30
for(N in sample.sizes){
dum <- NULL
for(I in 1:5000){
x <- rnorm(N,0,1)
dum <- c(dum,sd(x))
}
mean.sds<- c(mean.sds,mean(dum))
}

Chi square convolution?
Hi,
I want to determine the confidence interval on the sum of two sigma's.
Is there an easy way to do this in R? I guess I have to use some sort of
chisquare convolution algorithm???
Thanx,
Roy

When loading a library from network share drive (e.g., \\nnn\f1\f2\p1), when
First.lib is called, the libray name contains "/" instead of "\" resulting in an
invalid Windows filepath.

statistical significance test for cluster agreement
I was wondering, whether there is a way to have
statistical significance test for cluster agreement.
I know that I can use classAgreement() function to get
Rand index, which will give me some indication whether
the clusters agree or not, but it would be interesting
to have a formal test.
Thanks.

Support for Bayesian statistics in R
I'm just starting to learn to use R, and although I'm seeing lots of
functions aimed at doing orthodox statistical analyses, I don't see the
same for Bayesian analyses. What support does R have for Bayesian
statistics?

estimation stable distribution parameters
Hi,
I am wondering whether anyone of you already implemented in R or S+ the
methods of estimation the parameters of stable distribution. If there is, i
will be happy to get the copy of the codes.

Re: A somewhat off the line question to a log normal distribution
Dear Siegfried,
I believe your boss is wrong saying that:

every statistician know that increasing the sample
size the sample distribution of the mean is proxy to a
gaussian distribution (Central Limit Theorem)

copy complete zpool via zfs send/recv
Hi,
I want to move all the ZFS fs from one pool to another, but I don''t want
to "gain" an extra level in the folder structure on the target pool.
On the source zpool I used zfs snapshot -r tank at moveTank on the root fs
and I got a new snapshot in all sub fs, as expected.
Now, I want to use zfs send -R tank at moveTank | zfs recv targetTank/...
which would place all zfs fs

temporal simulation
Hello,
I am new to R and was wondering if anybody would be able to advice me
on the following query. Is there any package available to generate a
mixed Poisson process, temporal data, using R? If anybody has
accomplished this before or has any advice I would appreciate it.

iid.test package/ncdf package
Hi R,
I want to conduct iid tests. So, I went to download 'iid.test' package.
And the dependent package is 'ncdf', which is not available. So, how do
I conduct the IID tests? Can I do these iid tests in Base R?
Thanks in advance,

Variance Computing- - HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello,
I am running a few simulations for clinical trial anlysis. I want some help
regarding the following.
We know trhat as the sample size increases, the variance should decrease, but
I am getting some unexpected results. SO I ran a code (shown below) to check
the validity of this.

are these the same?
Dear members,
I was trying to simulate W which is iid and depends on X and Y.
Here are 2 methods:
Method 1:
x<-rnorm(100)
y<-rnorm(100)
w<-rnorm(100, 2x+y,1)
Method 2:
x<-rnorm(100)
y<-rnorm(100)
w<-2x+y+rnorm(100,0,1)
Are these methods comparable?
Since x and y are vectors, the term 2x+y would return a vector. It seems that, given Method 1, each element of W would

lme parameterization question
Hi,
I am trying to parameterize the following mixed model (following Piepho
and Ogutu 2002), to test for a trend over time, using multiple sites:
y[ij]=mu+b[j]+a[i]+w[j]*(beta +t[i])+c[ij]
where:
y[ij]= a response variable at site i and year j
mu = fixed intercept
Beta=fixed slope
w[j]=constant representing the jth year (covariate)
b[j]=random effect of jth year, iid N(0,sigma2[b])
a[i]=random
