DHH''s Post on Ruby Talk -- Rails 1.1.6: Stronger fix, backports, and full disclosure
The cat is out of the bag, so here''s the full disclosure edition of the current security vulnerability. With Rails 1.1.0 through 1.1.5 (minus the short-lived 1.1.3), you can trigger the evaluation of Ruby code through the URL because of a bug in the routing code of Rails. This means that you can essentially take down a Rails process by starting something like /script/profiler, as the code

Getting database config info
Hi folks. I have a very small problem which is probably very simple. But I''ve scoured the api and the rails book with no luck. I''m trying to get information about the database definition out of active record. When I go into console and say ActiveRecord::Base.connection I get a MysqlAdapter object, with an instance variable called @config that''s a hash containing all

DHH''s Post on Ruby Talk -- Rails 1.1.5: Mandatory security patch (and other tidbits)
We''re still hard at work on Rails 1.2, which features all the new dandy REST stuff and more, but a serious security concern has come to our attention that needed to be addressed sooner than the release of 1.2 would allow. So here''s Rails 1.1.5! This is a MANDATORY upgrade for anyone not running on a very recent edge (which isn''t affected by this). If you have a public

keyboard activity logging in FreeBSD
Hi, I would like to log all keyboard activities in all ttys in my FreeBSD 5.2 box. Is there anyway to do it? I read the watch man page and it seems like I should run watch with tty as many times as number of ttys. Am I right? Also is it possible to do the log in invisible way? The main reason is to log all commands typed in shell and tty and send the log to the remote server. How can I

Rails in a Windows World
I work at an organization that is very wrapped up in Microsoft products. I am trying to get a test application put in however I''m not sure what to do about the infratstructure. If it were up to me we would put in MySQL and Apache or Lighty, however its not up to me. The easiest way to get an application into production at our company would be to use the existing MS SQL server and IIS

Rails on IIS
I just spent the last two days trying to get Rails on IIS to work with Windows 2003/IIS 6.0. I think I''ve finally got it working, but it took more googling than I care to describe. Now I''ve got a few questions: 1) Is there some ''official'' Rails on IIS guide on this site on another official ruby site that''s known to work well? 2) If not, can someone

help on plotting series with different x-axis values on a graph with one x-axis
Hi, I have run into this problem a couple of times now and hope you can help! If I want to plot mulitiple series with differing x-axis values (however, all in the same range) in 1 plot with one common axis R obstruses the plots. E.g. if I plot water content against time and I start with the sampler at 5 cm depth, it plots that one right. But the next depth, 15 cm, is measured at slightly

AR db adapter for a RDF database (ATT: DHH)
Hi people, As I stated in a earlier message, I am using Rails on my masters degree and soon I will have to port my application from a relational database (MySql) to a RDF semantic database called Sesame. At first, I thought that I could get away with most of the porting only by writing a decent database adapter, but then, examining AR closer, I could see that it has some strong dependencies
