No Graphics Window, Mandrake 10.1
Dear all,
I installed Mandrakelinux 10.1 (community) on my notebook. Before, I
used Mandrakelinux 9.1 (and later 10.0 as an update).
Now I wanted to compile, as before, R.
In the beginning, nothing worked but it seemed to be the problem of GCC
3.4.1 which was shipped with my distribution. After downloading and
compiling GCC 3.4.3 everything went smoothly during the compilation of
R.
The problem

R 1.4 on Mandrake Linux 8.1
I installed the new rpm from CRAN for R 1.4 for Mandrake Linux 8.1, after getting blas and libgcc from rpmfind.net. When I do update.packages() the system goes to update grid, lattice, and mgcv. I get compile errors for two of them. Apparently R is looking for gcc 3.0.1 or later but 8.1 uses 2.9x which is required for other Mandrake applications (i.e., I get a dependency error when trying to

saying that on coppying the entire notes folder to
fake_windows wine works like charm. However, when i
tried the same I get a password prompt I enter my

Help with Python, R and RPY
Hi All:
Walter Moreira wrote a small extension module for using the R programming
language from within Python. Tim Church's example at
http://www.cmat.edu.uy/~walterm/rpy was so compelling, I could not resist
installing it on my Linux Mandrake 8.1 box.
But I ran into problems.
I have installed on Mandrake 8.1 both python and R:

Hi All,
I'm trying to install the quantreg library on my MEPIS box (debian-based

Mandrake 10, Request for comments.
My * is presently running fine on Mandrake 9.2, but Ive been entertaining
moving to Mandrake 10.0 to enjoy the obvious improvement in kernal speed Im
seeing on other 10.0 boxes Ive recently built for other applications. (10.0
is the first implementation of the 2.6 kernal)
Any comments from anyone who's running on 10.0?
IS anyone running * on Mandrake 10.0?
If so, any issues stand out?

Installing 2.2.5 latest on Mandrake 8
Hi there
I am a novice Linux user and am just trying it out - I am very impressed but
also very frustrated. I have loaded Mandrake 8 on a box and have configured
Samba for Windows pc's use this as a backup data server. Works
wonderfully - but our campus administrators say that the current version of
Samba presents a security risk(2.0.7) and should be upgraded. Thought this
was simple but

problems with R-2.01 build with Mandrake 10.1
I recently installed Mandrake 10.1 on my laptop, downloaded
the latest version of R, compiled it and ran it.
To my surprise I discovered that the X11() command returned
an error to the effect that X was not available.
Examining R config.log I noticed that there were several
complaints about X and tcl in there. Basic include files, such as
X11/X.h were not found.
I have previously compiled

Compilation of R under Mandrake Linux 6.1 (helios)
I've just installed Mandrake Linux, then compiled R-0.65.1 .
Whether because I omitted some necessary items when I selected
software for installion, or because they anyway needed to be
loaded afterwards, I found it necessary to load the following
packages in order to compile R-0.65.1
pgcc-g77-1.1.3-3mdk.i586.rpm (Fortran g77 compiler)
XFree66-devel-3.3.5-3mdk.i586.rpm (X.h etc

Problem with samba 2.2.4 and Mandrake 8.2
Hello all,
I updated my mandrake 8.2 samba from version 2.2.3a to 2.2.4, using mandrake cooker package, but after the update my
win98 clients can not logon on the server any more, the clients can't even find the pdc, because i get a big time from
the time that the user type his username and pass, and the logon error message. So is this a problem with mandrake's
package or the logon

20040616 segmentation fault
Thanks to Ivan for help. I seeked for wine-2004615 but:
1.
The only 2004615 I found is for Mandrake. I am using RedHat 7.3, uname tells
me that I have got Arch. i686
Can I use this Mandrake wine-20040615-mdk.i586.rpm ? It is described as
i386.
I am confused with this i386, i586 and i686. I thought I should only use
what my PC is: i686.
2. I installed the package via KPackage
