Rdbi and ODBC
I have been using RODBC for a while with no complaints (R 2.0.1
patched under WinXP), then I saw a link
(http://grass.itc.it/statsgrass/r_and_dbms.html) showing that Rdbi
claims to run a query in 5 seconds that takes RODBC 4.3 minutes. That
was hard enough for me to believe that I wanted to try some tests
myself, but I cannot get Rdbi to connect to my ODBC database.
Here is what works for RODBC

Package Installation in RGui (PR#7262)
In reference to the thread
http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/devel/04/10/0859.html
I have the same problem updating packages with newly-installed version of
released version of R 2.0.1. Previous posts refer to a bug in windows. I
wonder if there is a work-around? This probably should go to R-help but it
follows on from the post in R-devel. Apologies in advance.

how to connect to a remote PostgreSQL database from R on mac osx
Hello List,
I would like to connect to a postgreSQL database on a remote server and I am wondering what is the best package to do that. I have just installed RpgSQL, RPostgreSQL, Rdbi and RODBC.
The handiest to me is RPostgreSQL but I don't see how to connect to a remote server with it. For sure I can connect to remote server with RODBC, but since I am on a Mac OSX 10.6, I have quite

R, postgresql, windows & bsd
I usually work with R on a windows querying data through RODBC from a postgresql
db on a freebsd machine on my offcie lan.
Now I have the chance to use R also on a linux gentoo client box and to
connect to the same db.
I know that I can install the unixodbc stuff and stick to RODBC, BUT my
question is:
Is there any more 'linuxish' way of querying a postgresql server from a
client?

RODBC, IODBC and Mac OS X
Dear All,
As some of you in the archive, i am experiencing problems in using
RODBC with IODBC on Mac OS X Panther.
I am currrently facing two problems.
The first one is apparently linked with IODBC (according to returned R
error message) although testing the database access from IODBC manager
seems to work fine.
The second is by far more radical, R purely and simply reports an error

R and database access
Hi,
I am relatively new at R, but I would like to be able to directly access my
MySQL and PostgreSQL databases from R. I have been looking around CRAN and
searching through Google, however I am not sure what are the best options. I
have seen
DBI - not sure how this works
Rdbi - not sure how this works
Rdbi.PgSQL - can install, but fails on trying to load
RODBC - cannot

Build package for R 2.0.1 under Windows
This summer I and a colleague built a package for R v 1.9.1 containing
C-code under Windows. That only worked for us when
R was installed in c:\program files\R. Now I have R v 2.0.1 and the same
package won't build. I get the following
C:\Program Files\R\rw2001\bin>rcmd check "c:\program
files\r\rw2001\src\library\
sag"

libpq-fe.h ???
Hi all,
I tried to install the Rdbi_0.1-2.tar.gz and Rdbi.PgSQL_0.1-2 package. The
Rdbi_0.1-2.tar.gz installed fine but the Rdbi.PgSQL_0.1-2 had some problems.
The compilation routine tried to find a header called libpq-fe.h but did
not find it in the standard locations. I searched through the computer but
did not find a file called in this way either. What should I do to

RODBC and NULL values
Dear All,
Writing sooner than I thought I'd need to.
I'm using R 2.4 on Mac OS X, with RODBC, PostgreSQL 8.1 and Actual's
ODBC driver. I have all my data in Filemaker 8.5, but it is
automatically exported into PostgreSQL for analysis as Filemaker's ODBC
and JDBC access is awful, slow and has a tendency to crash.

Installation of XML library can't find libxml2.dll
Sorry to ask a (probably) dumb question, but I am trying to install XML

Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

R and Postgresql (DBI)
Hi,
I'm running Debian (Sid), Postgres (7.3.4) and
R (1.8.1).
I get the following error when I tri to use DBI
>library("DBI")
> p <- dbDriver("PostgreSQL")
Error in do.call(as.character(drvName), list(...)) :

Is there any other package I need in order to
interface between R and Postgres ?

Connecting R to PostgreSQL via RODBC, on Windows
hey all,
I feel like I must be missing something rather plain, but I don't get it.
how is one supposed to use R as a PgSQL client on Windows? Assume my
windows desktop is on the same network as a PgSQL server, and I just need to
use R to connect and pull down some data.
The thing that is confusing me is that RODBC doesn't seem to know anything
about PgSQL, in that

generic database access methods
I've been putting together a package that defined generic methods for
database access. The packages is called "Rdbi." It borrows as much as
possible from existing database packages / proposals. I'd like to start
a discussion about the proposed interface. Here's what I've come up
with so far:
#
# Rdbi: connectionMethods.R
#
dbConnect <- function(dbObj, ...)

Re trieving comments from PostgreSQL tables with RODBC and psqlodbc
I don't know whether this is an RODBC issue, a psqlodbc issue or a PostgreSQL
issue; I've searched the documentation and forums for each, with no success.
I want to list all the tables in a PostgreSQL schema, and return the table
comments as well as the table names. As an example, one table is defined as
follows:
CREATE TABLE scen990.ezone_locationprice_year1
(
ezone integer NOT NULL,

Connecting to PostgreSQL/PostGIS from R (rgdal?)
Hello,
I've been trying every now and then to find a cross operating system
solution that would let me access PostgreSQL (and PostGIS) from R, or to
access R from PostgreSQL. I know of pl/r, which accomplishes the
latter, but has yet to be successfully ported to Windows. Similarly,
I've tried to use Rdbi and DBI, but I haven't had luck with those on
Windows either for connecting to

rodbc or unixodbc error
Hi,
I'm trying to establish a connection to a MySQL database, and am using the
rodbc package for it. This is in a GNU/Debian Linux box, with the
corresponding Debian unstable packages. I can login to my MySQL databases
from any shell and directory, so the problem is probably not there. Here's
an example of what I'm doing:
R> odbcConnect("test",

R and PostGresQL
Sorry for the simple question:
What is the "standard" package for interfacing with PostGreSQL (most
up-to-date)? There appear to be at least three with different names:
Rdbi.PgSQL
RdbiPgSQL (available as part of BioConductor)
RPgSQL (On the home page, no longer maintained in favor or Rdbi)

creating a package without lazy loading
When I do a
R CMD build --binary
then I get the messages at the end of this post unless I specify
LazyLoad: no
in the DESCRIPRION file. If I do that then everything
proceeds smoothly. R CMD check proceeds smoothly in
either case. Is there something I should be aware
of that is causing this message when I do not turn off
lazy loading?
