function in order to plot the same graph to postscript and pdf
Hi, I've written a function in order to plot the same graph in a postcript and in a pdf file. Unfortunately, the second graph is always empty, i.e.: plot.both <- function{myplot, filename}{ pdf(file=paste(filename, ".pdf", sep="")) myplot dev.off() postscript(file=paste(filename, ".eps", sep="")) myplot dev.off() } yields in a

problem with postcript() and umlauts
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I am running R 2.01 on SuSE 9.2 and I use GNU-Emacs and ESS. When using umlauts like ?? ?? ?? ?? for e.g. plot titles , I enter them directly in the code, like plot(seq(from=-4,to=4,length=100),dnorm(seq(from=-4,to=4,length=100)),main="Gau??-Verteilung") I get a dotted box just after the "Gau" and before the "??"

Problem with sieve and german umlauts
Dear list, I?m running a postfix (2.5.6) / Dovecot (1.1.11) on a Centos 5.2 box. I?ve written a small gui application to simply create Out of Office replys with sieve. The resulting code did work with maildrop without any problems. Now sieve fails when it meets any german umlauts like ? or ?. It just stops compiling the scripts and complains about the missing "};". A simple fix is

Transferring a dataset from WINXP to Mac - problems with umlauts
Dear R-Help, is it possible to correctly display umlauts in a dataset, which has been created under WINXP, on a Mac-system? This is the problem: I have imported a German MS-Access database into R 2.14.1 by using RODBC on a WINXP-System. It runs with a Latin-1 encoding (codepage 1252). However, most of the work is done with a Mac (UTF-8 encoding) and the R-dataset has been transferred to the MAC.

dot - comma problem
Dear all I am trying to use the ODB package to connect to an libreoffice-odb database. The libreoffice package is german, thus, decimal separator is a comma. However, I can open the database and upload a it without error, library(ODB) db <- odb.open("Test.odb") but a soon as the "odb.open" command is executed, the decimal separator in R is changed to comma. recycle: ... returned No such file or directory
Hi, recently I see lots of logs like this. I figured, that many have umlaute in their name - but not all. My local FS displays the umlaute correctly - but it is not displayed correctly in the logfiles. Also, when I browse through shares via Windows or MacOSx all files with umlaute seem to be displayed correctly. May 5 08:27:54 Storage-01 smbd[39207]: recycle: stat for

Locales and filenames
I have a file which contains non-ASCII characters (umlauts, accented characters, etc.) both in its filename as well as its content. The only way I have been able to see these characters is inside vim, where they are displayed correctly no matter what I have LANG set to. My default LANG is en_US.utf8, but I have tried de_DE.utf8, de_DE.iso88591, and various others. In the output of a

Hi there from Germany, I just installed and set up ferret and act_as_ferret for rails. All of them at the most recent version. The development environment is running fine with Mac OS X. But I got problems with the productive environment (debian). In the (mysql-)database are few records stored, containig german umlauts (? for example). Running a query for "k?ln" returns the correct

Issue with postscript figures using WinAnsi encoding
Hi there, I've hit a bump in writing postscript files with special characters in the WinAnsi encoding on a windows machine. Here's some sample code: ########################################### postscript(file = "test.eps", encoding="WinAnsi.enc", width = 3, height = 5.5, onefile = TRUE, horizontal=FALSE, family = "sans", title =

Query with special characters crashes under Windows XP
Hi, Index queries with special characters (e.g. German Umlauts but also other European ones) make the Ruby process run for quite a long time and crash finally. I''m using Rails on Windows XP with Ferret 0.11.4_mswin_32. I could isolate the problem in the following simple controller action (so there''s no web browser form field involved): def test index = Ferret::I.new index

Postcript font size
Hello I'm doing a number of plots and in all of them I'm specifying the same font size. However, comparing one plot to the other, they have fonts of different sizes, so it appears some scaling is being done. I tried using both postcript(pointsize = ...) and par(ps = ...), but the results were the same. Is there a way to specify a font size that is consistent among calls to plot()?

How to enable Arial font for postcript/pdf figure on Windows?
Hi, I need to generate some figure using the Arial font as a requirement for PLoS. Following their guidelines, I have converted the windows font files arial.tff files to .afm using tff2afm (exec file from MikTeX), but when I try to generate a postcript file, the postcript device does not recognize the .afm files. The code I use to test the new font is the following:

postcript file / xyplot function [Broadcast]
This is FAQ 7.22. Lattice functions produce graphic objects, which are not displayed by default. If you print your graph, you should be fine. Also, take a look at the documentation for panel.xyplot. Using type = c("p", "r") should make things simpler. Regards, Matt Wiener -----Original Message----- From: r-help-bounces at stat.math.ethz.ch [mailto:r-help-bounces at

problem with PDF/postcript, cannot change paper size: "‘mode(width)’ and ‘mode(height)’ differ between new and previous"
Hi, The pdf function would not let me change the paper size and gives me the following warning: pdf("figure.pdf", width="6", height="10") Warning message: ?mode(width)? and ?mode(height)? differ between new and previous ==> NOT changing ?width? & ?height? Comment fields don't like accents!
Anyone know, under Linux, how to get accents (hoping for u with an umlaut, for example) into a comment field? They're happily in the comment file I'm using as a source (or on the command line), but they get translated into # either when I do vorbiscomment -a or vorbiscomment -l (not sure which, but XMMS also sees # instead of the right char, which implies the first). title=Die Sch#ne

The example below is part of a larger set of plots, but I've isolated the problem to this example using this small dataset (below), which kills rgui consistently.
