display SVG, PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PPM in new plot frame
Dear R-help I want to display an image file in a new plot frame. SVG is my preferred format, but I can also consider PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, and PPM (from ImageMagick). By way of background (although not material to this posting), the image file is generated by a call to 'dot' (part of the 'Graphviz' suite) after the required .dot file has been produced using hand-crafted R code.

passing command line arguments to 'R CMD BATCH myScript.R'
Hi Community, I have a question about how to pass command line parameters to R script running in the batch mode. The problem is: there is a banch of data files which are to be processed by R script called from a web-server, i.e. in the batch mode. The web server generates data files and passes their names calling 'R CMD BATCH' one by one for every file. Now the question is how to

R2.6 bug in arithmetics of S4 classes inherited from 'array', or intended behavior?
Hi, I have an S4 class directly derived from 'array' as shown in the code below (EBImage package of Bioconductor 2.1, devel), it simply contains array adding a couple of slots: setClass ("Image", representation (colormode="integer", filename="character", compression="character", resolution="numeric", features="list" ),

X11 png jpeg cledit false when running from script
Hello, When launching R from a script, when queried it reports the following capabilities as false: jpeg, png, x11 and cledit. When R is run from a terminal session, all of these capabilities are reported true. R is running on FC4. As the purpose of this script is to output the png file to a browser, it is unable to complete because of this. Any ideas are appreciated. We have an identical

particulars of importing/loading libraries
Dear List: Sorry for posting maybe a trivial question, but I have a basic understanding problem. If I have say pack1 and pack2, two R packages, and pack2 depends on and imports pack1 fully (as in the code below), is there a way to make all the functionality of pack1 available for the global and other environments (not only for the functions called from withing pack2) by loading pack2 only? Problems for runing R in BATCH to generate PNG/JPEG files
Hello all: After I compile the R-1.7 with the follows in Linux7.3: configure --with-x --with-jpeglib --with-libpng --x-includes=/usr/X11R6/include --x-libraries=/usr/X11R6/lib and make and make install. The R is able to generate PNG/JPEG files from the command line. However, when I put the same commands in a batch file and run: R --gui BATCH R.Batch.file It gave me a error in the

jpeg in batch mode
Hello, I am running some commands in batch on a server that I SSH into; some of the commands call jpeg(). If I continue to stay signed on (with my xwindows working on my machine) then the jpeg() command works (with a single caveat, below). If I leave it and sign off (with a nohup command in front of my BATCH) then jpeg gives me an error like this: Error in X11(paste("jpeg::",

assigning NULLs to elements of a list
Dear developers: I have just came across an (unexpected to me) behaviour of lists when assigning NULLs to list elements. I understand that a NULL is a valid R object, thus assigning a NULL to a list element should yield exactly the same result as assigning any other object. So I was surprised when assigning a NULL in fact removed the element from the list. Is this an intended behaviour? If

Speed of for loops
Hi Everyone, I have a question about for loops. If you have something like: f <- function(x) { y <- rep(NA,10); for( i in 1:10 ) { if ( i > 3 ) { if ( is.na(y[i-3]) == FALSE ) { # some calculation F which depends on one or more of the previously generated values in the series y[i] = y[i-1]+x[i]; } else { y[i] <- x[i]; } } } y } e.g. >

Overriding axis formatting with custom Axis method, Axis.numeric etc
Dear list: I would like to override the default way R formats plot axes with a custom method(s). Obviously I would prefer to define it as general as possible avoiding writing a custom method for each individual class where possible. The plot.default method (and I assume other methods as well) calls Axis(...) to produce the axis layout depending on data. In this sense it seems reasonable to

Finding windows DLLs
The XML package relies on libxml2.dll (e.g., bundled with the CRAN binary) installed in library/XML/libs. Unfortunately, c:/WINDOWS/system32/libxml2.dll will be found and loaded before this. Is there any programatic solution? Thanks, Martin -- Martin Morgan Computational Biology / Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center 1100 Fairview Ave. N. PO Box 19024 Seattle, WA 98109 Location: Arnold

PNG-import into R
Hi there I'm looking for a function to read PNG-bitmap-images from a file into R. I only found: - the pixmap-package which cannot import png or similar formats - the rimage-package which can only import lossy jpeg-images (the convertion from png to jpeg modifies the data!) Is there any possibility to read PNG-files? Thanks for any help Dominic Sydler

Create *png or *.jpeg plot under Linux
I have an example where i plot an image and load it dynamically in an image analysis tool to create a film (dynamic graph). This works well under Windows but i can't plot to *.png or *.jpeg files under Linux (Ubuntu) with the same command. I'm using: png(file,width=200,height=200) or jpeg(file,width=200,height=200) Any help is appreciated With kind regards Marcel -- View this

split.screen problem with jpeg/png device (PR#6223)
Full_Name: Steve Koehler Version: 1.8.1 OS: Solaris and Windows Submission from: (NULL) (192.55.214.50) In the following program, if output is sent to X11, you get all four graphs, but if output is sent to .jpeg, you only get the C and D graphs. A workaround is to do all the screen splitting at the top, before using any screens. This also fails with .png output. jpeg ("test.jpeg")

texi2dvi instead of pdflatex in R2.7.0? and related bioc 2.2 builds
Dear lists: I am somewhat puzzled by the use of texi2dvi/pdflatex in R2.7.0.
