POSIXct dates on x-axis using xyplot
I am using 'xyplot' in lattice to plot some data where the x-axis is a
POSIXct date. I have data which spans a 6 month period, but when I
plot it, only the last month is printed on the right hand side of the
axis. I would have expected that at least I would have a beginning
and an ending point so that I have a point of reference as to the time
that the data spans. Here is some test

xyplot lattice fine control of axes limits and thick marks (with log scale)
After a long and winding road (sorry but I'm a novice) I get to a final
result which is quite close to what I need;
nevertheless I would like to tweak a little further the xyplot so that I can
get ***for each single panel defined by variable z*** a finer control over:
-the x and y the limits: I would like to be the same for both axes;
-the number of thick marks: again I would like to be same

Plotting second axes outside xyplot
Hi all,
I'm trying to find a way to get xyplot to produce a second set of axes outside the right hand side of the graph. This is my progress so far:
EE <- equal.count(ethanol$E, number=9, overlap=1/4)
xyplot(NOx ~ C | EE, data = ethanol,
prepanel = function(x, y) prepanel.loess(x, y, span = 1),
xlab = "Compression Ratio", ylab = "NOx (micrograms/J)",

duplicated factor labels.
Dear R devel
I've been wondering about this for a while. I am sorry to ask for your
time, but can one of you help me understand this?
This concerns duplicated labels, not levels, in the factor function.
I think it is hard to understand that factor() fails, but levels()
after does not
> x <- 1:6
> xlevels <- 1:6
> xlabels <- c(1, NA, NA, 4, 4, 4)
> y <- factor(x,

alternate tick labels and tick marks with lattice xyplot
Hi,
I would like to use xyplot to create a figure. Unfortunately, I cannot find
documentation in xyplot to specify alternating the x-axis tick labels with
the x-axis tick marks. I can do this with the regular R plot function as
follows.
#A small version of my data looks like this
data<-data.frame(matrix(ncol=3,nrow=12))
data[,1]<-rep(c(1,2,3),c(4,4,4))
data[,2]<-rep(c(1,2,3,4),3)

Labels on axes with log scales with lattice
I using lattice to make some plots and I want to make the y-axis on
some of these plots use a log scale. In the following plot:
x <- 1:10
y <- 2^x
xyplot(log10(y) ~ x)
I get tick marks on the y-axis at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0. I
would rather have just 3 tick marks at 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 but labeled
10, 100, and 1000.
I know this can be done using the "at" and

date Axes and formats in lattice plots
All,
I have some data of animal movements that I'm plotting using xyplot() from lattice. I want to have the date (class POSIXct object) on the Y-axis and the animals longitude on X-axis.
Eg.
xyplot(date ~ longitude, groups = animal, data = my.data)
with data like:
animal ptt year month day lon date

lattice: formatting tickmark labels of log scaled axes
Problem:
How can I format tickmark labels of log scaled axes of lattice
graphics in the usual `xxx'-Format (and not in the scientific
format).
Example:
(according to the help-page of xyplot):
In the first plot I get the xxx-Format,
in the second plot I get the scientific format (10^xxx):
data(sunspot)
plot( 1:37, sunspot, log='y',type='l')
xyplot( sunspot ~ 1:37,

lattice xyplot - aligning date labels so that they align with the grid lines in panel.grid
Hi,
I have a basic question about aligning date labels for the x-axis
in an xyplot so that they align with the grid lines
from the panel.grid argument.
For example, with
x <- data.frame(
date = seq(as.Date("2005/01/01"), as.Date("2006/06/01"),
length.out = 20), value = runif(20))
xyplot(value ~ date, data = x,
panel = function(x, y, subscripts, ...)

controling x-labels in xyplot (lattice) when x is POSIX object
Hi,
V1.8.0 seems to allow DateTimeClasses as the x argument in xyplots (lattice).
For example:
x <- seq.POSIXt(strptime("2003/01/01", format = "%Y/%m/%d"),
strptime("2003/10/01", format = "%Y/%m/%d"), by = "month")
y <- rnorm(length(x))
dat <- data.frame(x= x, y = y)
xyplot(y ~ x, data = dat, type = "b")

Alignment and Labeling of a color key in a xyplot?
Happy New Year to all R users!
I have two short questions concerning a xyplot with a color key:
1) How do I properly place (align) the color key beside the xyplot?
As you can see from the code listed below, the placement of the color
key is not correct. I would like the upper and lower end point of the
color key to be perfectly aligned with the upper and lower line of
the xyplot. Adjusting

bizarre axes with xyplot, problem in data?
Good Morning,
I am using xyplot to show two variables for each of several subjects as
follows:
xyplot(y~x|as.factor(ID), type="b", layout=c(7,9),
scales=list(x=list(tick.number=3), y=list(tick.number=5)))
This is almost exactly the code I used for an earlier project, the only
change is the number of ticks, but I'm getting all kinds of craziness on my
Y axis. I played around with

lattice/xyplot: horizontal y-axis labels with scales(relation="free")
I would like to create an xyplot with varying y-axis limits and horizontal labels at the y-axis tickmarks.
The following does not seem to work, although I think it should, going by the documentation for par.
R version 2.5.1, Windows XP Prof.
Thanks for a clue.

dates with lattice graphics
Hi,
I'm trying to do something simple (I think) with lattice graphics. I want
to have three xyplots in a single column, where the x axis for the three is
a date range and the y axes are numeric.
I tried doing the first chart, and ran into a problem. When I enter:
xyplot (date ~ count)
I get a well formed plot with the date on the y axis, but when I enter:
xyplot (count ~ date)
I get:

XYPlot Conditioning Variable in Specific, Non-Alphanumeric Order.

# both my conditioning variables. The default code below plots the
# data correctly (dispersed across all 14 columns), but fails in two
# ways. Both the primary conditioning variable (Transect), and the
# secondary conditioning variable (Offset) are in alphanumeric order,
# rather than the specific order I need.

Lattice xyplot log scale labels help!
I have a problem with lattice log scales that I could use some help with.
I'm trying to print log y-axis scales without exponents in the labels.
A similar thread with Deepayan' recommendation is here:
http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e11/help/10/09/9865.html. For
example, this code using xyplot produces a logged y-axis but the
labels (e.g. "10^1.2") are not very

moving xlabels in lattice
Dear R users,
I am trying to move the "xlab" string on my xyplot, without success, I would
like it to shifted down, would one of you know a way ?
Thanks for reading

Date on x-axis of xyplot
xyplot doesn't seem to want to label my x-axis with dates but instead puts
the day-number for each date.
begdate is the number of days since January 1, 1960 and was initially
created by
library(date)
...
polls$begdate<-mdy.date(begmm,begdd,begyy)
I create a new dataframe (pollstack) which includes begdate. In the process
begdate seems to lose its date attribute so I redo it as:
