DRb not starting
Hi,
I have my Model as follows:

AAF Sorting by date - what am I doing wrong?
I''m trying to sort my search results by Date, in descending order. I''ve
done quite a bit of reading through the forums here, and I''ve tried two
different suggestions.
This just returns results in the same order as a search without a sort:
sort_fields = []
sort_fields <<
Ferret::Search::SortField.new("ferret_created_at",:reverse => :true)

Dynamic fields and AAF
Hi,
I have a model which has properties, these are your standard name/value
pairs, but also have attributes that affect how I want to store them in
ferret. I was using 0.9.5 with 0.2 of aaf, which seemed fine, I just
copied and pasted (yes, I know, ick) the to_doc method and added code to
iterate though the properties that that model had, and add relavent
fields to the document.
It seems

I''m getting "uninitialized constant UNTOKENIZED" when I try to do

More sorting problems with untokenized index
I''m having problems sorting on untokenized fields. I have one field that
sorts fine, but there are others that seem to sort on a different field.
Here''s the index description:
acts_as_ferret
:remote=>true,:fields=>{:name=>{:boost=>2},:name_for_sort=>{:index =>
:untokenized},
:city=>{:boost=>2}, :city_for_sort=>{:index=>:untokenized},

Strange indexing issues with CachedModel, STI, and AAF
I started using robotcoop''s CachedModel class in my project but have encountered problems when using it with the acts_as_ferret plugin. It seems it doesn''t index everything in my STI model, also if I do a search from my base STI class I get a result count but no results. If I run the same search from one of the children STI models I get the appropriate results (if the information

missing terms in index causing search errors
I am unable to find results for models when one or more of the terms are
not being indexed.
Lets suppose I index a User on the phrase "Ruby on Rails." If I then
search using User.find_by_contents("Ruby on Rails") I get no results,
since "or" is a common term and does not get indexed. Of course,
User.find_by_contents("Ruby Rails") works just fine.

acts_as_ferret with STI models
Can acts_as_ferret search only one of the inherit models in the
hierarchy of STI models? Say you have Contents, with types articles and
comments. I know that you do Contents.find_by_contents, but can you
also create indexed for Comment and Articles?
Thanks for you help

[AAF] remote indexing via DRb with acts_as_ferret
Hi!
Aaf trunk has undergone several major refactorings the last days, with
the result that you can now transparently switch your app from local
to remote indexing and back :-)
If you plan to scale your app to more than one physical machine, or
if you have problems with corrupted indexes and the like under high
load, you really should give this a try.
I wrote some documentation to get you

[AAF] acts_as_ferret 0.4.0 released
Hi folks!
Just wanted to let you know that I released aaf 0.4.0 on last weekend.
Besides the DRb server it also includes a new lazy loading feature that
lets you do ferret searches without actually loading any records from the
DB. Useful e.g. for live searches:
model:
class MyModel
acts_as_ferret :fields => { :title => { :store => :yes }, :content => {} }
end
controller:

DRb server & aaf gem
I''m having problems getting the DRb server running with the aaf gem.
I tried it with the plugin installed in my application, and it
worked. I suspect the problem has something to do with the startup
scripts expecting certain files to be in certain relative file paths.
Any insights are appreciated, and maybe if you have time you can
update the wiki document :)
Thanks for a great

No, that search model is just a plain class that backs your search form.

Hyphens
Hi there,
I''m working with some legacy data where customer phone numbers are
stored with hyphens between the area code, exchange, and number (e.g.
555-555-5555). Is this the best way to store a phone number? Perhaps
not, but it''s the way they were being stored, so I have to work with
this format.
Right, so when I save a record the log tells me acts_as_ferret indexed

Important issue with [AAF] and :select
This is important and may be affecting you if you use :select to
minimize the columns you need on big queries.
If you use :select to define which columns you need and you have not
included all the columns you defined in the :acts_as_ferret field
definitions you''ll clear the content of those fields on the ferret
index. And that may corrupt your index.
So, if you have in your model:

Is there a way to do incremental search?
Say the user first enters "ruby" for search and gets 1000 results. Then
he can search "rails" just in the 1000 results just returned.
The common scenario is some kind of advanced search. User can
incrementally add criteria and the program will narrow the results step
by step.
I know that at least I can use all the criteria as a whole to do the
searching, but this is a waste
