repost - Can one edit the file that generates the scaffolding.css?
I am reposting this because not only am I VERY interested in the
answer but because I think it would also be useful to many, many people.
We kind of have a house-style here, so it would be nice if the
generated scaffold.css would accommodate that. My questions are?
Is it possible?
Is it safe?
How?

How do I write a generator?
I''d like to take some advice and write a generator to change the

but have not found anything yet.
Any help would be much appreciated.

counting rows via associations
Hi:
I have a table called clients and each client has many lists (a
has_many and belongs_to has been created in the class.
What I need to do is get a count of the rows in each list for each
client. I was hoping I could do something like
client.lists.count but it does not seem to work. Any suggestions?

Scaffolding to use has_many and belongs_to ?
What does everyone on this list think about enhancing scaffolding
somehow so that a "has_many" relationship will automatically drop the
<select> box into the view to reference the "belongs_to" part of the
view?
I think scaffolding is great but I am always adding the <select> boxes
to reference the parent association. Do you think this would be
useful? just a

Scaffolding support for many-to-many editing (habtm)?
Like with simple table editing, there are also typical ways of how a
user usually interacts with one-to-many or many-to-many relations. For
example, one would show the fields of one row of table1 in the screen
and below a line-by-line view of all associated entries in table2. Then,
one could press an "Edit" button and add or delete rows from table2 to
this entry of table1,

Lookup tables and scaffolding
It occurs to me as a missing feature that there''s no way to indicate a lookup
table relationship (as opposed to other sorts of foreign key relationships)
in Rails and that the scaffolding generator could recognise this lookup and
render a drop-down list automagically for the lookup table.
Say you have an Address and a State, and the State is a lookup table. In
addresses you have

Maintaining DB reflection without scaffolding
Hi,
I would like to know if there is a way to maintain database reflection
for the ''new'' and ''edit'' views whilst removing scaffolding?
I''m trying to create a webapp that will be somewhat maintainable by
colleagues (that aren''t necessarily web developers) through simple
manipulation of db table fields.
For example to add another field to the

I don''t even know how to ask the question (4 lines of code)
I create a hash using this line of code @x = Account.find(:all)
I then want to go through each element in turn and add a key value
pair to the end of it. I thought this would work, but it does not.
@x.each do |a|
a.merge({"balance"=>50}
I used merge because I thought ''a'' would be a hash (how do you find
out the type of an object?)
I then guess it was

A book we may wish to buy
Hi:
Some French fellow posted a notice yesterday about a book that had
come out. It''s called "Ruby on Rails" and is apparently by DHH &
David Thomas. Is this a scam? If not, does anyone know where I can
buy this book in English? I''ve searched the usual places but can''t
turn anything up.

Error: Before updating scaffolding from new DB schema, try..
Hi, I''m going through the Depot tutorial in the book "Agile Web
Development with Rails" and I can''t even get past the very first step.
I''m getting the following error:
"Before updating scaffolding from new DB schema, try creating a table
for your model (Product)"
when I try to run "ruby script/generate scaffold Product Admin.

Question About Scaffolding for My First Rails App
When using ruby to generate scaffolding, is there an easy way to add
features that would be useful for keeping track of has_many and
belongs_to relations? For example, suppose I have the following:
Users
Sites
Pages
Modules
Each user has many pages, each site has many pages, each page has many
modules, and also the belongs_to relation holds in the opposite order.
I''m using the

Trying to grasp the difference between local variables and instance variables/
Hi:
Would it be fair to say (or completely out to lunch) that a local
variable is local to a method and an instance variable is local to an
object. Thus an instance variable is a sort of limited global
variable or super-powered local variable. Its scope is larger than a
local but smaller than a global. Or that it is a global within a
limited domain (the object).
or is it a whole lot

Scaffolding Results Format
Hi Everyone,
I built a scaffold and I''m having trouble getting results properly
formatted. (I need to get the data into multiple columns instead of just
one big column) I can''t get all of my CSS to work properly in
scaffold.css, layout/books.rhtml, or the books/index.rhtml.erb Anyways,
maybe you have a suggestion.

How can one use GRUFF with locomotive ( I guess there is a wider question here, also)
Hi:
I love Locomotive and use it exclusively for my rails projects. I''d
like to install GRUFF and give it a try (a graph image creation
package). I know I can do sudo gem install gruff from the command
line for normal ruby and rails. How do I make gems available to
Locomotive?

Scaffolding plugins that support relationships. . .?
Hi All,
I''m looking for a quality scaffolding plugin. So far I''ve discovered
DryScaffolding and Streamlined. DryScaffolding doesn''t truly support
Rails 1.2.2 so I dropped that. Streamlined works, but is full of
quirks (e.g. many-to-many relationships not cascade updating
correctly, etc). Can anyone suggest a quality scaffolding plugin/
generator/framework that

Scaffolding
So what is "best practice" using scaffolding and then manipulating it to
work for you or starting from scratch?
Thanks.

Problem with scaffolding and table name
Hello, i''m new in ruby rails framework. I have the following problem. I
try to create a scaffold
for a certain model of my db, but since ruby rails doesn''t assume the
table name corectly (its incidents_reported )
i get errors ....
Besides renaming the table :) is there a way to ''tell'' ruby rails the
name of the table?
I haven''t been able to find any

easy scaffold question(s)
I''m doing very well with the Hibbs Rolling on Rails tutorial. I have an
easy question for my personal notes. I''m coming up with a simple framework
of steps for creating a basic database. It includes the following maxims to
make original app creation easy:
app_name = MySQL database name
SQL_tablename = model_name
model_name = controller-name
Is this going to work for getting

How do I overwrite/extend a scaffold module?
I have many pages to generate quickly. They are based off of the scaffold
generator, but I want to convert the rhtml files to Markaby, and change some
formatting. Without having to do a lot of repetitive hand editing. Is there
a simple way to overwrite/extend part of the scaffold generator? Do I need
to write my own from scratch?
