rfImpute (for randomForest) crashed
In trying to execute this line in R (Version 1.7.1 (2003-06-16), under windows XP pro), with the randomForest library (about two weeks old) loaded, the program crashed: bost4rf <- rfImpute(TargetDensity~.,data=bost4rf0) Specifically, an XP dialog box popped up, saying ?R for windows GUI front-end has encountered a problem and needs to close.? That was the dialog saying asking whether I

length() misbehaving?
I'm having a weird problem with length(), in R1.6.1 under windows2000. I have a dataframe called byyr, with ten columns, the first of which is named cnd95. summary(byyr) shows that byyr$cnd95 contains the factor level "tr" 66 times. Also, when I enter byyr$cnd95 at the command line, I can count 66 "tr" elements in the resulting vector. However, when I enter n95trt <-

na.action in randomForest --- Summary
A few days ago I asked whether there were options other than na.action=na.fail for the R port of Breiman?s randomForest; the function?s help page did not say anything about other options. I have since discovered that a pdf document called ?The randomForest Package? and made available by Andy Liaw (who made the tool available in R---thank you) does discuss an option. It is an implementation of

Change font size in Windows
My day for dumb questions. How do I increase the type size in the Rgui console in Windows? (R-2.13.0, Windows 7) It looked to me that I just needed to change the font spec in Rconsole but that does not seem to be working. The R FAQ for Windows has a reference in Q3.4 to changing fonts, (Q5.2), but I don't see anything relevant there. Rconsole originally was: font = TT Courier New points =

Highlighting Text in Console
Anyone know how I can highlight specific words/letters (e.g., bold, or different colour) when displaying text to the console using cat or equivalent? I can change e.g., the colour for everything by loading in a new Rconsole file, but what I really want to do is write "hello world" to the screen but with the word "world" highlighted in some way. Problem with console in Windows GUI (PR#4381)
Full_Name: Andrew Zachary Version: 1.7.1 OS: XP Pro Submission from: (NULL) (24.44.128.138) The R-console window in the Windows GUI has a nice feature that lets you save your preferences for font sizes and background and foreground colors. Unhappily, there is no way to load these preferences back in when starting a new session. Also, the scroll window for selecting colors is very small and

Font Size for View()
Thanks for the feedback. At least on Windows, the font size for View() appears to be controlled by the font size specified under the Rgui preferences / Rconsole. I thought that under Linux, it might be controlled by some .Xresources/.Xdefaults setting. Ok, will wait for a bit but if nobody else has any suggestions, I'll ask on r-devel. graphsheet substitute in R?
I'm using R 2.0.1 in a class I teach, with most students working under windows XP. We have a data frame with the first column containing the factor "site," and five water-quality variables at each site. As one part of exploring these data, I'd like the students to run by(ourdata,site,pairs). When I try that, however, the pairs plots for the first 10 sites scroll past, and

Font Size for View()
Hello, I am using Ubuntu 16.04, using the default (Unity) window manager. The font size using View() is way too small on a high dpi monitor. I already use scaling, but View() doesn't seem affected by that. Any suggestions for how I could tweak the font size here? Best, Wolfgang

Changes in console preferences won't take
Greetings, I've attempted to change the font size directly in Rconsole as well as through the GUI preferences. Neither seems to take even when I save the preference changes. When I make the change through the gui preference, and click "apply" the change is made, but when I save it, close, and reopen, there is no change. Any thouughts? I'm running R.2.40. David --

How to reinstall rpart?
After entering ?library(rpart)?, I tried to plot an existing rpart tree, and got this error message: Error: couldn't find function "plot.rpart". However, ??plot.rpart? does bring up the help for the function. The same things occur for text.rpart, although print(my.tree) does work. So, I tried to re-install rpart using Packages | Install from CRAN, but then I get this

Descriptive statistics table
Greetings: I would like to make a table with descriptive statistics for a data.frame. Fw: length() misbehaving?: More
With the problem below, I've discoved that n95trt<-length(byyr$cnd95[byyr$cnd95=="tr"&!is.na(byyr$cnd95)]) does give me the correct count for the number of "tr" entries. (The same behavior occurs for the "c" level of the cnd95 factor.) It appears that byyr$cnd95=="tr" is finding both "tr" AND NA entries. Is this a bug, or is it to be
