Trouble with Excel table connection
Hello, I've been using odbcConnectExcel to connect to a spreadsheet database containing a single worksheet. Unfortunately when I try to access the data R cannot see the table. When I run sqlTables it shows the worksheet as a SYSTEM TABLE instead of as a TABLE that I can access. I am fairly certain that I am do all of the same things I've done in the past when it worked just fine.

Is it possible to create highly customized report in *.xls format by using R/S+?
I remember in one slide of Prof. Ripley's presentation overhead, he said the most popular data analysis software is excel. So is there any resource or tutorial on this topic? Thank you so much!

need help with chisq
I am very new to R. I have some data from a CVS stored in vdata with 4 columns labeled: X08, Y08, X09, Y09. I have created two new "columns" like so: Z08 <- (vdata$X08-vdata$Y08) Z09 <- (vdata$X09-vdata$Y09) I would like to use chisq.test for each "row" and output the p-value for each in a stored variable. I don't know how to do it. Can you help? so far I have

Subject: Re: how to include bar values in a barplot?
Greg, I'm going to join issue with your here! Not that I'll go near advocating "Excel-style" graphics (abominable, and the Patrick Burns URL which you cite is remarkable in its restraint). Also, I'm aware that this is potential flame-war territory -- again, I want to avoid that too. However, this is the second time you have intervened on this theme (previously Mon 6

[LLVMdev] [DragonEgg] [Polly] Should we expect DragonEgg to produce identical LLVM IR for identical GIMPLE?
Dear all, In our compiler we use a modified version LLVM Polly, which is very sensitive to proper code generation. Among the number of limitations, the loop region (enclosed by phi node on induction variable and branch) is required to be free of additional memory-dependent branches. In other words, there must be no conditional "br" instructions below phi nodes. The problem we are facing

Who uses R?
Dear R users, I have started work in a Statistics government department and I am trying to convince my bosses to install R on our computers (I can't do proper stats in Excel!!). They asked me to prove that this is a widely used software (and not just another free-source, bug infected toy I found on the web!) by suggesting other big organisations that use it. Are you aware of any reputable

Memory problem
As Jim has indicated, memory usage problems can require very specific diagnostics and code changes, so generic help is tough to give. However, in most cases I have found the dplyr package to be more memory efficient than plyr, so you could consider that. Also, you can be explicit about only saving the minimum results you want to keep rather than making a list of complete results and extracting

[patch V2 00/11] x86/vdso: Cleanups, simmplifications and CLOCK_TAI support
Matt attempted to add CLOCK_TAI support to the VDSO clock_gettime() implementation, which extended the clockid switch case and added yet another slightly different copy of the same code. Especially the extended switch case is problematic as the compiler tends to generate a jump table which then requires to use retpolines. If jump tables are disabled it adds yet another conditional to the existing

ssh2 authentication and ip forwarding
I'd been hoping to move all of our site to ssh protocol 2 whilst we are still small enough to do this without serious pain, however the lack of authentication and connection forwarding is making that difficult at present. I see the current (2.2.0p1) code base does not have the code on either client or server side for ssh2 to handle tunneled connections or authentication agent. Is this

Memory problem
Dear R Forum, I have about 2000+ FX forward transactions and I am trying to run 1000 simulations. If I use less no of simulations, I am able to get the desired results. However, when I try to use more than 1000 simulations, I get following error. > sorted2 <- ddply(sorted, .(currency_from_exch, id), mutate, change_in_mtm_bc = mtm_bc - mtm_bc[1]) Error: cannot allocate vector of size 15.6

Accessing the elements of a list
Hi R, I wanted to know how do we access the elements of a list. In particular, v=list(c(1,2,3,4,5),c(1,2,33,4,5),c(1,2,333,4,5),c(1,2,3333,4,5)) I want to access all the thirds items of the elements of the list. i.e., I want to access the elements, 3,33,333,3333. This can be done through sapply as: sapply(v,function(x) x[3]) But I need to access this without using

spreadsheet-style autoupdating
Dear all, I am curious whether one can automatically update, say, a column in R, similar to how spreadsheets (Excel, etc.) do? In my specific case I have two columns with logical data, which individually convey different information, although ultimately for a common purpose (flagging for removal). I would thus need a third logical variable that would take TRUE if any of the prev. columns take

Is it possible to create highly customized report in *.xlsformat by using R/S+?
Your surest bet is to look into S+, not R, since the former does 'integrate' with Microsoft applications. To what extent, I don' know. This is a desirable feature (IMO) and a reason to use S+ rather then R (already discussed in different thread). Try the S+ newsgroup. > -----Original Message----- > From: r-help-bounces at stat.math.ethz.ch > [mailto:r-help-bounces at

Bug in SeaBIOS virtio-ring handling bug with vhost-scsi-pci
Hi Paolo & Co, So I've been running into another bug with SeaBIOS w/ virtio-scsi + vhost-scsi-pci code.. During the last weeks debugging on the QEMU vhost memory re-mapping bug, my seabios builds have been using a smaller target ID (16) for scanning than the default hard coded value of 256 in init_virtio_scsi(). After bumping this value back to 256 recently, a bogus out_num value from

Messed up dovecot mail store, need some repair advice
Hello folks, I have an older dovecot 2.0 (which I will migrate to a 2.2 asap, but at this point in time I need a fix). This is a dovecot 2.0 that came with Mac OS X 10.8.5 Server 2.2.5. Today, my spam/virus filtering (clamav) on the Server broke down. As a result, all my meesages got the ***UNCHECKED*** tag added to each subject. That was clearly unacceptable. SO, for the tim ebeing I have set
