lattice grayscale "theme"
Hi, is there a grayscale setting for lattice plots? I like the default color settings. I also like the settings that are available for setting black and white with something like this: --8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8--- ltheme <- canonical.theme(color = FALSE) ## in-built B&W theme ltheme$strip.background$col <- "transparent" ##

Wireframe graph: black and white shading instead of color
All, The code below produces a color 3D graph. I'd like to make it black and white shading. I tried setting col.regions to FALSE but this just made it completely white. I want the graph to look exactly as is, except black (or grey) and white shading. Is this possible? Cheers, David p.list = c(.01, .1, .25, .5, .75, .9) cov.list = c(.2, .1, .05) ### leave out .01 X = rep(p.list, 3)

dotplot & lattice problems: y axis values and bg color output in jpg
I have a linux system with Fedora Core 2 and R-2.0. I was comparing plots made with plot() and dotplot() and discovered a problem. Although the dots are positioned correctly, the numerical labels in the dotplot y axis are not correct. I put copies here: http://lark.cc.ku.edu/~pauljohn/R/plotTrouble1.jpg That is the "correct" one from plot, with the higest value on y showing at 18.

Varying grid.rect in different panels of a Lattice plot
Dear r-help, Sleep-deprivation from having 2 youngsters under 2 around the house is fuzzing my brain, so please be gentle if the answer to this query is obvious! In the example below, I'm trying to use grid.rect to add grey rectangles to the panels of a lattice plot to indicate which months spawning occurred of a (very cute) native Tasmanian fish. The fish in the two lakes spawned at

Sweave and Trellis in R 2.0.0patched (Windows)

uniform and clumped point plots
I am trying to generate two dimensional random coordinates. For randomly distributed data I have simply used >xy<-cbind(runif(100),runif(100)) However I also want to generate coordinates that are more uniformly distributed, and coordinates that are more contagiously distributed than the above. Can anyone make any suggestions Thanks. Dr Terry Beutel Rangeland Scientist Animal

changing settings on a barchart (lattice)
Hello! I apologize - I never used lattice before, so my question is probably very basic - but I just can't find the answer in the archive nor in the documentation: I have a named numeric vector p of 6 numbers (of the type 6 numbers with people's names to whom those numbers belong). I want a simple bar chart. I am doing: library(lattice) trellis.par.set(fontsize=list(text=12)) #

Lattice key title color
Dear R users, is there a way to define the color of the title for the legend in lattice? The help page on xyplot has a lot of details on key options just as the new book, but no mentioning of a color attribute for the title. Should I use ltext or is there any other way? Best wishes, Erik [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

two issues (black and white trellis graphics)
On the first issue, there's a recent post you can find in the archives. It's from Deepayan Sarkar on January 2 this year. It would probably pop up on a search for "black white lattice" or something similar. The key part of his answer: I'd do something like this as part of the initialization: <<...>> library(lattice) ltheme <- canonical.theme(color = FALSE)

gray background in png
Hi all, I'm having a problem creating png images with trellis.device. I would like to create many plots with a white background using a sequence number in the file argument (i.e. "%02d"). The first plot is as expected with a white background. However, the second and all subsequent plots have a gray background. I would like all plots to have a white (or transparent)

Lattice dotplot with symbols sized and colored
Apologies if this is a naive beginners question. I am trying to create a dotplot with the lattice dotplot function in which my dots are colored differently depending on if positive or negative and sized by sp.nc.bdrs.data$mwZ I have tried... dotplot(sporder ~ cvarorder | direct, data=sp.nc.bdrs.data, cex=abs(sp.nc.bdrs.data$mwZ * 0.05), xlab="climate variables",

lattice problem in R-1.9.0
Hi all, I just installed R-1.9.0 on Windows 2000 from binaries. Yesterday, on R-1.8.1 I ran a script that looked like: library(lattice) tmp <- expand.grid(A = 1:3, B = letters[1:2]) tmp$z <- runif(NROW(tmp)) trellis.device(png, file = "x1081.png", theme = col.whitebg) xyplot(z ~ A | B, data = tmp, panel = function(x, y, i) { panel.xyplot(x, y)

sweave bwplot error
Hi I use sweave and have a problem with the following figure, but not with other figures: tt <- data.frame(c("a", "b", "c"), c(1.2, 3, 4.5)) names(tt) <- c("x1", "x2") bwplot(x2 ~x1, data = tt) ok now in sweave: \begin{figure}[H] \begin{center} <<echo=FALSE, fig=TRUE, height=5, width=10>>= lset(col.whitebg()) bwplot(x2 ~x1,

Need some quick help with lattice - barchart
For the following code below, the x-axis ticks are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 when I was expection them to be 1,2,8,9,10,11,12. Note: "The default device has been opened to honour attempt to modify trellis settings"
R-help, I'm using a function whose end result is a trellis plot. When I call the function I get sometimes the following message: "Note: The default device has been opened to honour attempt to modify trellis settings " leading up to any plot whatsoever. I call the package 'lattice' within the function and 'detach' after plotting. I have to close the graphics

Lattice plot within a "for" loop does not happen?
I am trying to do a series of xyplots plots, using a "for" loop to substitute the appropriate variables for each plot. The basic command works fine by itself and produces a nice plot: > i<-3 > trellis.device(theme="col.whitebg") > xyplot(as.formula(paste(tmp00[2*i], "~ ", tmp00[(2*i)-1], +

specify lattice black-and-white theme
Is there a simple way to specify a theme or trellis (lattice) parameters so that, in a multipanel (conditioned) plot, there is no color and in the strips there is no shading? This is the effect achieved on page 124 of Deepayan Sarkar's "Lattice" (figure 7.2). I managed to trick lattice into making a grayscale plot on my interactive display as follows: > graphics.off() >

Sweave and Printing Lattice Figures From Loop
Community, (Windows Xp , 1.7.1, too little memory) This may have the flavor of an answer in search of a question, but I'll pose this question: Is their a better way to do the following than what I'll show below? Problem: In Sweave I have multiple figures from lattice, some of which have more that one page. I can easily figure out the total number of figures I have created, but its
