random samples
hi, I am encoutering a very little problem that seemed to be so easy to solve.... I need to divide the array > A<-c(1:200) into two subsets at random. Therefore I use the function "sample" in R: > S<-sample(A,100) for a random sample of size 100. Then I need the values in A that are not selected in S to be put in another array, there is my problem! Is there anyway to do

Beginner's question about t.test()
Dear All, I am doing some exercise in statistics textbook on comparison of two experimental means. Is it possible to use t.test() do t-test when I have only two means, sample size, two standard deviations ? (no raw data). Thanks. Pramote

subsampling
hi, I would like to subsample the array c(1:200) at random into ten subsamples v1,v2,...,v10. I tried with to go progressively like this: > x<-c(1:200) > v1<-sample(x,20) > y<-x[-v1] > v2<-sample(y,20) and then I want to do: >x<-y[-v2] Error: subscript out of bounds.

hi, I am trying to grow a classification tree on some data, but I have a little problem. In order to do so I have to use a function like "tree" in R and on the internet help(tree) I get the following: "The left-hand-side (response) should be either a numerical vector when a regression tree will be fitted or a factor, when a classification tree is produced" I would like to

Graphics - plotting two graphs
Hi, I wanted to plot 2 lines on a single graph. Each graph has one axis that can be common. The code that I'm using is: ------------------------------------------------------- par(mfrow=c(1, 1)) x1 <- c(2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12) x2 <- c(10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60) y1 <- c(10,12,15,22,34,21) y2 <- c(40, 130, 150, 145, 40, 30) par(las=1, mar=c(4, 4, 2, 4)) plot.new()

legends on the outside of the "box"
Hi R People: Here is a simple set of commands: >x1 <- 1:10 >x2 <- sqrt(x1) >plot(x1) >points(x2,col="red",pch=3) >legend(2,8,legend=c("First","Second"),col=c("black","red"),pch=c(1,3)) > Fine. Now, I would like to put the legend box on the outside of the plot itself, perhaps in the lower left hand corner. I've been

predict.lrm vs. predict.glm (with newdata)
Hi all I have run into a case where I don't understand why predict.lrm and predict.glm don't yield the same results. My data look like this: set.seed(1) library(Design); ilogit <- function(x) { 1/(1+exp(-x)) } ORDER <- factor(sample(c("mc-sc", "sc-mc"), 403, TRUE)) CONJ <- factor(sample(c("als", "bevor", "nachdem",

compare 2 vectors
Dear all, I would like to take out the values from one vector that are equal to the values in another vector. Example: a <- c(1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) b <- c(3,10,20,5,6) b_noRepeats = c(10,20) So I would like to have the vector b without the same values as vector a.
------------------------------------------------------------- library("rsm") ChemReact CR <- coded.data(ChemReact,

Arrays of Trellis plots
hello, the example below does not work. (i know it's not supposed, but it makes it clear what i'm trying to achieve) par(mfrow=c(2,1)) xyplot(y~x2|x1,data=dataframe1,pch=20) xyplot(y~x2|x1,data=dataframe2,pch=20) i know i could probably merge the two datasets and do something like xyplot(y~x2|x1+dataset,data=merged) any other suggestion? thanks. R for-loop to add layer to lattice plot
Hello, I am using e1071 to run support vector machine. I would like to plot the data with lattice and specifically show the hyperplanes created by the system. I can store the hyperplane as a contour in an object, and I can plot one object at a time. Since there will be thousands of elements to plot, I can't manually add them one by one to the plot, so I tried to loop into them, but only the

plot with two y axes
I'm trying to make a transition from S-plus under Windows to R under Linux. My immediate aim is to produce a scatter plot with two y-axes with different scales. That can be done in S-plus with a command of the following form: guiPlot( PlotType="Scatter", DataSet="execon", Columns="years,hstart,ship", AxisType="Multiple Y" ), where years, hstart, and

colorbar legend for image()
Hi, are there any plans to add a colorbar legend to image()? Or such a possibility already implemented which I just haven't discovered yet. Anyway, I will be willing to spent some time on the implementation if there isn't anyone working on that already. gam confidence interval (package mgcv)
Dear R-helpers, I am trying to construct a confidence interval on a prediction of a gam fit. I have the Wood (2006) book, and section 5.2.7 seems relevant but I am not able to apply that to this, different, problem. Any help is appreciated! Basically I have a function Y = f(X) for two different treatments A and B. I am interested in the treatment ratios : Y(treatment = B) / Y(treatment = A) as

A two-part question about box-percentile plots, bpplot(): (1) yaxt="n" doesn't seem to work (2) how to display mean values
Dear List, I have a two-part question related to bpplot(), a box-percentile plot function in the Hmisc package. Take the example given in the Help for bpplot(), for instance. (1) How does one set but not draw the y-axis? What I did was, bpplot(... , yaxt="n"), but that apparently does not work (though it works for boxplot()). (2) How does one display the mean value of each variable

plot each column of a matrix or dataframe versus x in a single plot
How do a plot several columns of a matrix at once in a single plot versus a single x-variable? The default plot.matrix or plot.dataframe commands plot each column versus each other column in several sub-plots. I want to plot each column versus a single other vector (x) as several lines or points in one plot. I can do it by hand: get the range of all variables (i.e. columns of the matrix or
